    Currently in my 4th year of teaching- so refreshing to see someone who hasn't let this job take over their life. Glad you're still blogging/making videos. Not long until half term! :)

      Thats fantastic Shaizana! And so reassuring to hear too, any work life balance tips would be appreciated haha (although I'm quickly learning that it's all about routines and learning when to say enough is enough for me, despite what other teachers are managing to do, comparison is the thief of all joys right? xD0

    The best video on the Primary PGCE I've found in the last two weeks of searching!

  • @salmak9309
    @salmak9309 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Hey! This video was so lovely, I'm just finishing my PGCE, I've got 2 weeks left and totally agree with you, what a stressful year it's been! Really nervous to start in sept 😭 xx

    • @TheBlushingGiraffe
      @TheBlushingGiraffe  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello Salma! Congratulations on finishing up, it is such an achievement to get to the end - harder than my degree by far lol! And don't be nervous, you'll be absolutely fine, which year group will you be teaching in September? X

    • @salmak9309
      @salmak9309 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Blushing Giraffe aww thank you!💕 definitely, I do hope NQT year isn't as challenging😞 I'm not sure which year group il be teaching yet although I did give my reference (yr 3/4), i think theyl let me know when I attend for a transition day in a few weeks. I'm currently in year 6 and was in yr 3 for my last placement. I definitely prefer year 3! Years 6s far too mouthy for me haha xx

    • @TheBlushingGiraffe
      @TheBlushingGiraffe  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have to say I had a lil chat with some year 3s the other day and they were such a delight! Definitely don't want to be stuck in Year 6 forever, but I'm also relieved I get another year here cause it's what I know haha. Let me know if you need any help or just a chat with a fellow teacher! X

      The Blushing Giraffe aw yeah I can imagine you doing a smashing job! So, I've found out the other day I'll be in year 6 for my nqt year starting from Sept! I'm super nervous and anxious about this now😕 wasn't really me preference to be in year 6 particularly due to my current poor experience in year 6 in my placement school, I really hope it's not half as bad. Have you got any tips for me starting my NQT year from sept? Would be great to get some tips and resource/website advice? (Btw, so sorry for the long essay, feel free to ask for my email or my number!). Thank you! Xxx :)

    • @TheBlushingGiraffe
      @TheBlushingGiraffe  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Will be filming several videos for NQTs don't worry hun I've got your back! And yes I'l link reources etc. What I'll say for now is try to keep an open mind, year 6 are super challenging but its also incredibly rewarding seeing them grow so much and be ready to leave primary, plus once you've done yesr 6 you can do any year! So many teachers are put off by it, but it's a huge compliment to your performance already that you have been put in year 6, you will be awesome! X

    Thanks sister for the clear explanations. It helps me to see what is like doing the pgce. I am new in UK and was looking for what route to take with my french bachelor in education and social work. You gave me a good sight of one of the routes am thinking about. Can I ask you how much you paid for the year? And when do you pay it (one shot or gradually)? Thanks so much.

    What type of titles of the assignments did you get asked? Thanks!

    • @TheBlushingGiraffe
      @TheBlushingGiraffe  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi! The first one was titled 'reflecting on practice' and literally it was a thorough look at an aspect of my teaching practice at that point in time and a literature review around it and the second one was called 'developing professional enquiry skills' and this was pretty open to what you wanted to do. Personally I decided to do a case study on a teacher in my school, focusing on a certain aspect of her teaching and then using literature to analyse the pros and cons of that method and how it would end up impacting my future practice. I hope this helps :)

    Salam sis. I am considering doing the PGCE this year, however, the only thing i'm worried about is the new subject that they will be adding to the curriculum in 2020 called RSE, or Relationship and Sex Education. Is every teacher expected to teach this subject or can one opt out of teaching it? what do you know about it?

    • @TheBlushingGiraffe
      @TheBlushingGiraffe  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wasalaam sis, there’s already an RSE expectation within the national curriculum, which is more about teaching children about their body, safe touches, unsafe touches and in year 6 it goes into a bit more detail - but parents are invited to come in and watch the video first, and they are more than welcome to withdraw their child

    • @MabroukaAlTajoury
      @MabroukaAlTajoury 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Blushing Giraffe 🔸 Assalamulkum sis🌷 So is it obligatory for EVERY teacher to teach RSE? Can we teachers opt out?

    • @TheBlushingGiraffe
      @TheBlushingGiraffe  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thankyou! No I didn't I'm lucky to live in an area where there were lots of jobs available and we could afford to be really picky, so I didn't apply until I found a school which matched a lot of my own ethos...soooo important!

    How will be the training hours? Being a international student can i do part time jobs to support myself?

    • @TheBlushingGiraffe
      @TheBlushingGiraffe  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can absolutely work part time on the weekends and maybe even a few evenings a week but it won’t be easy. There was one lady in our training cohort who juggled the course with two part time jobs, she managed it but spent the whole year extremely stressed - best of luck.

    • @ansiyashaf152
      @ansiyashaf152 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So you are saying unlike other courses if u are studying PGCE it will be tough for doing part time jobs? How is the class timming?

    • @ansiyashaf152
      @ansiyashaf152 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is it 5 days a week.. and how many hours a day?

    • @TheBlushingGiraffe
      @TheBlushingGiraffe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Class timings are typically 8:30-3:15 and then you’ll typically by in school working/planning/meetings/marking for 2 hours after that and you’ll always have some work to get on with at home too...the workload is a lot for training and for teaching in general, especially the first couple of years
