To all those out there and the mechanics, I hope this helps! I did a bit of research and also checked my 95 325i BMW to confirm because I was having even worse symptoms, the fuses blow and will keep blowing because the group of wires on the bottom left hand corner of your trunk coming out of the trunk lid end itself the wire protective insulators or "plastic sheath" all crack from being bent in an awkward position and become exposed shorting each other out creating a multitude of symptoms from your dash cluster lights not working to some lights working and some lights not working and to my surprise I cut the black protective wire casing off ( coming out of trunk lid end) and almost all of my wires were cracked and exposed shorting each other out, I had at least 6 wires exposed shorting each other out. This was an impossible goose chase until I came across a forum of one guy explaining this very common problem with the 95 325i BMW's. Check those wires before going and buying new lights, computer etc.

Not sure about the 2004, I'd check the service manual and find the fuses, i bet there are a couple
