    I think another factor we're forgetting is. While yes the sponsorship model is part of the issue. Let's not forget FedEx had financial issues the year prior. It's why we were slightly worried Hamlin had a chance of not returning to JGR. They grounded planes and shut down facilities that year as a result, and they've HEAVILY scaled back on sponsorship this year. I don't have answers for Xfinity or Geico, but I feel like FedEx has more internal issues than anything NASCAR related

    • @austinemms9772
      @austinemms9772 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      That’s something people can forget. The sponsorship model is very poor, but company profits can dictate how much they can get out of sponsorships verses how much they’re giving.

      Happens all the time case by case. Where the alarm bells go off is seeing what replaces it. Back when NASCAR was healthy a Fortune 500 company would be replaced by another one. Now it's Fortune 500 company with some you have to Google unless it's expressly mentioned

    NASCAR is losing fans and not on the big channels much, so ROI is little compared to the NFL, MLB and other sports. I know some companies were giving equipment instead of money, because that was a better ROI for the team and the company. At one point, Ganassi employees were also Target employees. IDK, NASCAR has said they want a cost cap, but teams don't. But, I think NASCAR needs to start thinking about how to get people interested in watching races again. Might have to look at making races be 2.5 hours or so. People don't want to sit through a 5 or 6 hour race anymore, they want to go do something else. Maybe, look at MotoGP and F1 doing sprint races, half the length and half the points. Or, look at IMSA with sprint races half the season, endurance races the other.

    $25million / year is an INSANE amount of money relative to the size of NASCAR. I just looked it up and the average cost to sponsor an NFL team is $39 million, while the NFL gets 5x the viewers on average (3.3 million vs 18 million per game).

    The technology development within the telecommunication industry - namely social media and broadband/mobile internet - made the availability of media content grow exponentially and made its access far easier.
    This have the (adverse) effect of making every type of media content (sports included) a niche product, as video-on-demand allows people to funnel their media consumption to their field of interest.
    I believe general public sponsorship as we have seen in the mass-media era will come to an end. As media content will get increasingly more niche-oriented, sponsorship will also follow suit. Still, how the smaller and more loyal audience will affect the sponsorship figures is something to be seen.

    It isn't just in NASCAR where there are sponsor issues currently as over in Indycar, Hy-Vee is considering leaving Rahal & going to another team or even becoming the title sponsor for the series, though NTT wouldn't take too kindly to that. Then over in F1 there are two major things that are going to happen with sponsors. The first is that Puma will be leaving Mercedes due to Lewis Hamilton joining Ferrari next season. To replace Puma, Mercedes will likely sign a deal with their bitter rivals Adidas so don't be surprised to see a ton of Adidas branding when watching F1 next season. Lastly Heineken's deal with F1 as the official beer expires at the end of the season (with Heineken likely not renewing in order to pursue other opportunities) which opens the door for Budwesier or Molson/Coors to take over.

Lots of other Oil companies out there, Insurance companies totally disappeared. Snack companies, pizza companies. Have Monster and no other energy drinks. Nos gets one or two a year, When Kurt Busch had half Haas and half Monster was cool. I think more split advertising could work really well. Especially like coloured companies.

    Along results & recognition, sponsorship is really a personality deal. Perhaps FedEx's personality & Denny no longer fit between his label of a "villain" in the sport, his open to obtuse podcast, & Denny being an owner of another team. Perhaps Denny's priorities & personality were no longer valued by FedEx.

    NASCAR's greed is responsible for them doing it to themselves. An unquestionably obtuse decision to broadcast races on multiple esoteric networks at a time when an overwhelming majority of current NASCAR fans & potential fans are cutting cords & subscriptions. If access is the key to popularity, both for sponsors & to the sport, why (besides greed) put up multiple pay walls that restricts access & dooms any idea of relatability in an economy defined by inflation.
    We as fans can't keep up with NASCAR's insatiable appetite for our money. I'm so done! FO NASCAR. FO!
