      I’ll only go with schemes since I’ve started watching in 2016
      * Busch’s M&M’s 18
      * Larson’s HendrickCars 5
      * Elliott’s NAPA 9
      * Logano’s Pennzoil 22
      * Hamlin’s FedEx 11
      That’s really all I got sadly

    I realized today marks 20 years since the HMS plane crash that took the lives of family and friends of Rick Hendrick, including Ricky Hendrick.
    The main reason why Larson's HendrickCars scheme is iconic nowadays.
    I can relate to this 20 years later, especially with what I'm going through right now with my family

    Jimmie driving a blue car was how I decided to root for him when I was 3 years old. My favorite color was blue and I had my pick of either Rusty in the blue deuce or Jimmie in the Lowe's 48.
    I think that's why there's so many younger fans today that are Kyle Busch fans, since the kids went crazy for the M&Ms car. Hell, I even had a soft spot for John Andretti solely because I loved Cheerios as a little kid. I wish we had more full time paint schemes other than Larson, Truex and Joey

    The only schemes I think of for drivers today that would be about synonymous with thier names are
    Elliott - Napa 9
    Larson - HendrickCars 5
    Bowman - Ally 48
    Logano - Pennzoil 22
    McDowell - Love's 34
    Hamlin - FedEx 11
    Truex - Bass Pro 19
    and yet sponsors like Love's or FedEx are becoming more anonymous today
    DeWalt 20 will soon be synonymous with Bell, same for Cindric with Discount Tire, Blaney with Menards, and maybe Fastenal with Buescher
    other than that, sponsors are all over the place. Which sounds good, but it leaves little room for a car the fans crave to see almost every weekend

      If the sponsors aren’t coming back then it’s on the team to build their own. In F1 it helps that teams are tied to car manufacturers. But look at Red Bull has done. A consistent visual style for more than 10 years regardless of changing sponsors.

    Part of why I’m a Logano fan, his scheme is easily recognizable nearly every week. The red and yellow look fantastic together and pops out. Only an issue when McDowell is running good and he has Loves yellow and red. And when it’s AAA or AutoTrader on the car, the style is the same but with different colors to fit the sponsor. The only one not really following that style is Hunt Bros, but again, it’s already becoming iconic because it’s just a mean green machine. You don’t see anyone driving green out there.

    Great to see the Bud #8 back. It is one of my favorite NASCAR paint schemes alongside the black #3 of Dale Sr & the Jeff Gordon "Rainbow Warriors" scheme of the 90's. Speaking of paint schemes, over in Indycar, my favorite scheme would have to be the red & yellow & then red & white Target scheme used by Ganassi & made famous by drivers like Alex Zarnadi, Jimmy Vasser, Juan Montoya & Scott Dixon. Another Indycar paint scheme that I really liked was the baby blue & white Players car that Paul Tracy, the late Greg Moore & Jacques Villeneuve all drove in. Lastly in F1 the famous Ferrari red, the silver & black scheme McLaren used from 1997-2005, the light & yellow scheme Fernando Alonso used to win back to back World titles in 05 & 06 with Renault, and the black & yellow Jordan cars are the schemes I remember most watching F1 during that time period.

    As a fellow Jr fan, I really liked his Mountain Dew cars. The first one I liked was his 2010 version, which led to him becoming my favorite driver. That said, I love seeing the Bud 8 car back, even if it's a late model. I think the business model has had an effect on how there's been more than one scheme, which makes it hard to associate a driver & sponsor. That really tells you, it needs to have a major overhaul.

This would convince me to at least look at the merchandise if not buy some of it to just get the vibe from my childhood. It says something when 20-25 years ago I could tell whose who with worse quality than I can with todays cars with high resolution and bigger screens. It's not just the constant sponsor changes week in and week out but also the fact that the sponsor names and the car numbers don't pop out like they use to. Not to mention the way the next gen is modeled doesn't help either.

    The that NASCAR has is that the teams are heavily reliant on their sponsors for their visual identity. This is a problem exclusive to Indy and NASCAR. If I told you to picture a RCR branded car in your head the first thing you would picture is the sponsor. If there is no consistent sponsor there is no idea. But if I were to ask you about a Ferrari race Car or a Red Bull race car you could picture it without to much trouble.

      @@joshuapboston1999 Don't know if you realize this, but the sponsor itself plays a big role in paint scheme designs. • @joshuapboston1999
      @joshuapboston1999 5 นาทีที่ผ่านมา

      @@crystaljonLike I've said previously, you should at least simplify the scheme so that as little changes as possible are made to cause confusion. From there, change the colors accordingly to match the sponsor. So, to use your example for 23XI, for Monster Energy, if the primary sponsor for the 500 uses the McDonald's scheme, change the white to black, and then use two different shades of green to replace the red and gold, one lighter than the other.
      And yes, I know that sponsors can play a big part in the paint schemes. But between all of them, there has to be a balance to all of their schemes to make it cohesive across the full season.

Some companies are all owned by one big company and they’re not gonna do multiple cars and spend that much money like that. When they used to be individually owned by separate companies, they’re more freedom to spend on stuff like that.

    One problem with this argument is that it's not actually up to nascar to make the paint schemes iconic, it's the sponsor, the team owner, and the driver to make the scheme iconic. You can have a great scheme but the driver could suck and not be recognizable at all, and also the scheme is created by team and sponsor which means they both have to agree on something, and in a world now where corporation means everything, iconic paint schemes are just not the norm anymore, which is tragic, but companies don't care anymore about their designs, they just want to be shown on TV and advertise to people, at this point the paint schemes might be out of NASCAR's hands and into the hands of the team and sponsor. One sign they don't care, look at logano's car now... yellow with just a red line going across the bottom... not very recognizable like it was in 2020.

    There's actually a glaring problem that you didn't mention in the video...
    Merchandising isn't the same as it was in the Bud 8 era, as instead of multiple companies producing merchandise with all the sponsors, we have 1 company for apparel and 1 company for die cast, and the die cast one refuses to make all the different schemes and even undercuts the Xfinity series and truck series rosters. There are more deleted die casts that will never be made that people wanted (and are pissed off about not getting) than Lionel is actually producing, and on top of this, merchandise prices are through the roof, making what used to be the one way a fan showed support for a driver unobtainable

    The one reason there is no iconic looking cars anymore is look at how bland and boring these companies logos are. Sure they are clean and simple but just to safe and boring. Pepsi and coke are great examples. Their cans used to just look like the drink was gunna be refreshing and cold. Now it’s just blue can with the word Pepsi on it or red can with the word Coca Cola on it. Everything is way to simplistic with it’s art design. The overall 2000s aesthetic of over the top and in your face is gone.

    Just do streaming like, wec,motogp, F1, and imsa. Then all the sponsorship problems will be gone. Nascar cant expect people to watch cable. Were living in the 2020s. I got in the sport in 2023 am not nostalgic like the many fans here.

      Streaming is not the silver bullet here. And each sport handles their sponsorship differently. In the case of endurance racing most of those cars aren’t as reliant on sponsors. Mostly due to the fact many of the teams especially the prototypes are getting manufacturer backing.
      F1 has the advantage of being a global sport giving it more eyes and the fact the the F1 teams have their own identities regardless of their sponsorship. Ferrari will always be Red. Red Bull has had the same lives since 2016 despite two different titles sponsors coming and going.

      @@rexthewolf3149 I get it. But Nascar is a lot more reliant on broadcasting money than those series I mentioned. Cable shouldn't be expensive, I can pay for Amazon prime for 3 or 4 euros. We should think about streaming for the cup series.

    To have more iconic schemes, we need to retire numbers. Whenever someone thinks of a number, they think of the GOATS (ex: 8 car is most associated with Dale Jr, not Kyle Busch, the 24 and 48 are associated with Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson, not William Byron and Alex Bowman, the 20 is most associated with Tony Stewart, not Christopher Bell, etc). Not to mention, we need more longtime sponsors like FedEx, DeWalt, STP, Pennzoil, to make it better

      Then we'd run out of numbers

      That sound like a terrible idea. Last I checked, people want NASCAR to be less like ball sports.
