Amazes me HOW many times Murphy gets 147's! One of the BEST Snooker players out there, but somehow doesn't win much! Technically, should be winning most tournaments! The man is a genius!
Would believe that Mark Williams had a 9 darter but don’t believe for a second that Murphy did. Williams averaged 111 on the 9 dart challenge years ago.
A hole in one is mostly luck and requires one perfect shot. A 9 darter requires 9 perfect shots. A 147 requires 36 perfect shots. A snooker 147 is easily the most difficult.
For the idiots here, by "perfect" I mean they achieved their goal. They holed the ball, the hit the treble 20 etc, they potted the ball. Doesn't matter how it goes in, the result is the same. 🙄🙄
Murphy is a class act. Love watching him play, even if he hasn’t been as successful in recent years he’s always brilliant to watch and a great sportsman. And Williams too… Snooker giants of the sport. Will be a shame when they’re no longer on the circuit.
If You give a snooker player a "ball in hand" meaning they can place it wherever they want to try and make a 147, 99.% will fail! Murphy is the 147 champ though! No way to fix a 147, even if You got the player to set them where he wanted them, he still would run into trouble!
A hole in one is obviously the easiest because it’s one shot and you can fluke it. For example, an amateur golf player or even someone who’s barely even played golf could hit the ball and get lucky with a hole in one but NO amateur/inexperienced darts or snooker player could go and hit a 9 darter or a 147, that’s impossible. So the question is out of the two. I think the fact a 147 has more things that could possibly go wrong and the fact it takes a lot longer than 9 shots surely proves it’s the most difficult? Plus if you look at the stats, over 500+ 9 darters have been hit, only 200+ 147’s have been hit as well.
Not really. 174 is definitely the most difficult but on another day they might make 2 9 darters before the snooker players have managed to pot all the reds with blacks. You would need to run a test like this for 1000's of hours to come up with concrete takeaways

@@performancepoo The margin for error is miniscule, we're talking mm for some shots. And the ease in which you can lose position progressively from shot to shot (a little here, a little out there, and all of a sudden you're not on the black) requires all the shots to be pretty much perfect.

Golf has a huge amount of luck involved, with wind bounce etc etc. I could and have had a hole in 1, get it close, and luck does the rest. Never in my life will I get a 147 or 9 darter.
147 would be easier in this case as there are going for a 147, in a normal game they would play safety’s/pot other colours and not be able to take as much risk.

Doesn't matter where or how You start, every shot needs to be perfect in order to make that 147! Even in a small table like pool, If I opened the pack and said to You, start anywhere you want, but pot all the balls, You would struggle! You need REAL talent and skill to make a 147, even professionals struggle in practice at home!

Hole in one is the easiest, because you don't even have to be a good golf player to do it. If you can hit the golf hard enough for it to reach the hole, then it's just a matter of luck, you might even do it first try if you're extremely lucky, but if not, you will eventually get it on repeated tries... it might take hours, days, weeks, months, but it will happen eventually. A nine darter is way harder to do by pure luck if you're not an already great player, but still there is a chance that you will eventually land all darts for a 9 darter if you keep trying. Now, good luck potting 15 reds in combination with 15 blacks, plus the colors in order, all by pure chance... that's never going to happen, even if there is a theoretical chance, it will be so small, it will border on the impossible. You have to be at least a good player, who understands positioning, angles, cue ball spins, cue power, etc. and even with all that, a lifetime might not be enough.

Ive played golf off a 4hc and i play alot of darts ive dabbled in snooker . I dont think the hole in 1 is the correct measurement for golf It should be scoring 59 in a round. Darts requires 9 perfect shots snooker 36 perfect shots.. ive known golfers with more than 1 hole in 1 and there 18hcps or above they may have hit a thin and hit the pin and dropped in so i dont think its measurable.

We would need to know how many 9 darters Phil has made in his lifetime (including in practice) to compare. Also, snooker is so varied, Williams may or may not include making a 147 from a line up or easier positions set up in training, where as in darts, a 9 darter is a 9 darter without any variables. I personally think a 9-darter is harder/less frequent because it requires a larger degree of luck- even with the professionals. For that reason, if I had to do one of the two within a week, or even a year for my life, I would lean on the luck of the 9-darter and hope that after enough attempts I would get it. I would never be able to replicate the skill required over an entire break to complete a 147. Therefore 9 darter is rarer (as is hole in one)- partially because of a greater element of luck required (there is still a huge skill element), but a 147 is more skilful.

Explain why there’s been more 9 darters than 147’s. I mean Luke littler alone has more 9 darters this year than there’s been 147’s this year. Also you can fluke a 9 darter, you can get ricochet of another dart that was maybe meant to miss a treble for example

For example, Ronnie o'Sullivan who I assume has played one of the highest amounts of frames, has played a total of 11337. There's a PDC article claiming Luke Humphries, current world champion, had played over 2000 legs in 12 months, meaning it'd take him 6 years to reach Ronnie's career "attempts".
You've also got to factor in that for a 147 you've got to hit the first 9 or so reds and blacks on live play while trying to win the frame. So many times a player can be on a 147 chance but have to choose to play pink or blue as they can't risk losing the frame for a possible 147. That doesn't happen in darts does it.@@MegaBagera

Also Phil Taylor hit 22 9 darters in his career. Ronnie by comparison has 15 147 breaks.
