Excellent, comprehensive introduction to 2-column proofs. I like the integration of geometry and algebra in the 3rd example. I haven't seen much of this variety proof, but it's great practice!
This video is not like other videos where you get the basics. In this video there are a variety of problems and it feels like we are getting an entire class session, Super great video, thank you so much!
I knew the lesson but I couldn't find the right examples online that I was looking for, until I came across this. Thanks for the help! Helped me succeed on my test!
Thanks...I choose to offer full lessons since many channels are just examples. I did start breaking my new videos down into segments by time so if you are searching for something specific you can go directly there. This is one of my early videos and I have learned a lot since my inception and tried to make improvements as I learn:)
Happy to help! Thank you for liking my videos enough to subscribe too. I really appreciate the support....and please feel free to spread the word and share with your friends:D
That's awesome...thanks for sharing the news! It's amazing what a little extra effort made at home can do. Thanks for choosing my channel to "get" that extra help from...and thanks for supporting by liking and subscribing too, hope that means we will be hearing more from you in the future:D
Really grateful for this tutorial video. It really helped me understand writing up two column proofs more. Hope you continue making these incredibly informative & helpful videos, sir!
+Anthony Clements you're welcome and thanks for watching, studying, liking and subbing to this channel...please tell all your friends to watch and do the same:D
Thank you so much! I am now in the after math of my concussion and I have truly gotten even farther off the path of study in Geometry and this has greatly helped, thank you!
Professor RobBob ,thank you for a basic Introduction to 2 Column Plane Geometry Proofs. Writing proofs in Geometry is challenging, however all students must understand that this is a different way of thinking and definitions, and theorems must be memorized for usage.
CONGRATULATIONS on all your hard work and studying Ariel Carino and thanks for watching, learning and subbing to my channel! If you like my writing, check out my calligraphy video when you need a break from math:)
You can search my channel or browse my Geometry playlists for videos dealing with triangles....like proving they are congruent with SSS or SAS etc. Proofs take a ton of practice to master.
+A DT thanks for taking the time to study with Tarrou's Chalk Talk! Please take the time to like, subscribe and share this free educational channel with your classmates too:D
+Filmscraft If something is equal to something else, then your next step would be to say that they are congruent. You would say def. of congruent (angles/ segments) If they're congruent, then you would put in statements that they're congruent, and you would put def. of (angles/ segments) Def. of equality is different. If it says XY = XY, then you would put reflexive prop. of equality.
One thing that's making it a little hard for me to understand proofs is that the axioms, postulates and theorems have different names and definitions in different textbooks. I'm wondering if there is a standardized book/list for the fundamentals that mathematicians draw from to write these proofs.
Why would I ever have to state that something is equal to itself (aka use the reflexive property) when doing these proofs? Like if there is a case when something isn't equal to itself.
Sebastian I agreed with your sentiment when I was in school, and in a way I still do. But, proofs must be structured in an exact, logical sequence, and no fact can be taken for granted. It is like writing a computer program where you must tell the computer everything it must do or prove in the correct sequence.
ProfRobBob As I programmer I can say that the analogy doesn't work, or at least it doesn't work to explain why the reflexive property is necessary. You never assign a variable to itself in computer programming, it's redundant and your IDE (a type of text editor often used by programmers) would likely notify you about it. You would only have to make sure that you actually created the variable in the first place and assigned the desired value to it before working with it. Just wanted to inform you. Thank you for the videos by the way. I have plowed through a bunch of them and I'm learning a lot. Geometry and trigonometry is very applicable in game programming which is one of my hobbies.
Sebastian :D, I love it! I need to come up with a different argument now!!! How about this... If you are proving two triangles are congruent and they share a side, saying something like AD is congruent to AD will not only state that the segment is congruent to itself, but the two parts of two different triangles are congruent which you may later use in the proof. Like, these two triangles are congruent due to SAS. I dabbled in programing in high school (stone age) but that has been long forgotten. I am glad you are enjoying my lessons:)
ProfRobBob I can see how it would add to the proof in the scenario you described. Thanks for the information, not that I will ever have to write two column proofs, but I was curious nonetheless.
Please don't be speechless....how will you tell all those other students at your school where to find my channel?! LOL...nice to see you are still watching:)
i dont really have time to view this video since my laptop is about to die and cant charge it while its on or the charger will melt :/ but i hope to view this later because im REALLY in need of help. went from passing to failing in 3 days due to proofs and on Monday there is a test on it..
You're welcome and THANK YOU for studying and subbing to this channel! Please continue to share it with everyone, especially your teacher so all current and future students know where to find free math help like you...BAM!!!
+drumcorpsboy1 just a math teacher trying to share my passion for teaching:) Thanks for watching and liking, please sub and share this channel with everyone:D
Hey I appreciate the help, but didn't have time to watch it all. Can you please make a short two minute video just breaking down one problem with the viewer. But thank you this helped and I hope you take my request seriously
+857Awesome I have links in the description to jump to each of the three examples. And you can watch the video at 1.25 and 1.5 speed. These options are in the setting button in the lower right hand corner of the video.

This really helped me and you have nice handwriting!!! :D

7 lines in a proof? Yeah, some proofs can be a lot shorter or longer:) Thank your for watching.
Thanks so much for your videos! These are so easy to follow and helpful! I needed a refresher for my college course :)

This really helped me a lot in understanding proving thanks!

I love that you are watching for Geometry Class\:D/ I hope are doing great! Thanks for watching and the comment.
That is exactly what I was hoping for:)
You have excellent penmanship! My teachers handwriting is way too small... Keep it up! ☺
+A DT thanks for taking the time to study with Tarrou's Chalk Talk!

Anna DT my teachers is too messy
My teacher is awful this year, I finally understand proofs. Thank you so much (:
Great video! Where can I find all the postulates? I know you have a video on them, but you don't show the first couple of ones in it.
You're welcome...It must be really tall to be way over that head...lol
Thanks for choosing my channel and subscribing!
THANKS SO MUCH, i didnt really understand in class but now i get it thanks to you! Hopefully I'll make an A now☺️☺️
You may have just saved my grade on the final. Thank you so much
You're welcome…teamwork makes that possible! You study…I teach:)
GO LUCK!
On the example with the segments... my math teacher taught me to say, say on step four, substitution prop. of equality... is that wrong?
@E Lee "def. of" means definition of, which would be of equality or of congruence...Anything to add Profrobbob?
+Filmscraft If something is equal to something else, then your next step would be to say that they are congruent. If it says XY = XY, then you would put reflexive prop. of equality.
Thanks so much for the lesson! Hope I do well on the test! 👍👍👍
Thanks for watching...hope you passed that test like BAM!!!
I can only continue to do my best...It's hard to make everybody happy:(
What's the difference between (for example)
ProfRobBob
Angle Bis. Thm and Def. of Angle bis.
Question?
ProfRobBob
Do you have a video that explains like.. "def.of" or something?
I dont understand what it means....
Unfortunately the only answer I can give is...whatever number of steps it take to link the given information to the final proof line.
You're welcome..and THANKS for subscribing too:) Hope you passed that test like BAM!!!

how many steps does their need to be?
This is great stuff man!!

nice video! really helpful!
I'm sorry, I guess you will have to look for a different channel since all my videos have the same writing:(
I think in my class we were required to do 7 often, but my teacher's also said we only need enough to prove it
