Amongst the bells of Wigan Parish Church and Coppull

We go amongst the bells at Wigan Parish Church and Coppull. Both gorgeous sounding and meaty vintage rings of Taylor bells with very accessible belfries. Just before ringing, a few members of the band had a look around to view the bells before ringing.
Following this, we go off to Coppull, a glorious 16cwt 6 in E. Again, you could probably cycle around the belfry there is so much room. Despite being on plain bearings and the whole setup needs some heavy maintenance, once oiled they go suprisingly well - all ropes falling straight off the wheels. The front 2 were never stayed due to lack of money but personally speaking they are lovely as they are. A concrete ringing room ceiling doesn't make a lot of difference with the sound travelling through a wooden funnel, as it were, in the ringing room.

hastings stays a ring of ten in c sharp sounds nicer than a ring of ten in d becuase they sound a bit standard these sound beautiful

Wigan sound identical to Maidstone

They basically are; but Wigan benefit hugely from the much bigger tower, giving them plenty of space the blend. They're easier than Maidstone, too.

Apparently so yes immediately outside. They ring out across the town and can be clearly heard, just as grand bells should :-)
