    You were lucky they were not rusted in. My 2004 xA has 165k miles. The hubs were very hard to remove. I had to use an impact chisel to separate the unit from the mounting flange. PB Blaster was my friend too.

    Did this today, both sides. Video was vet helpful, thank you. Definitely helps to use penetrating spray on bolts before removing them. Back wheels were very noisy, now quiet like a new car. Thanks again.

    Lug nut torque is 80 ft-lbs. Great video, really helped me. Just let me say that "weight of your body" could produce over torqueing. Also, one should always wear a mask when doing any work on brakes - your Covid N-95 mask is good, but a proper respirator is best. Thanks.

    With 185K on my 2004 Scion xA, it was due. Went down without a hitch because you provided a look ahead at the process. Thank you. Ready for the next 100K.

    Wow that looked really easy for you! My son has been hammering at the hub assembly for almost 3 hours and it will not come out. Any ideas?

    Thank you my friend, between you and the Asian dude I got both sides done in under an hour. Very, very cool how you walked us through the whole kid. Peace to you my brother!!

      Did you need a puller to get the hub off

    Lug nuts are supposed to be torqued to 83 pounds on this vehicle!

    since you have a torque wrench you could torque the wheels 80 ft

    I removed the bearings on my '05 xA in 10 minutes. After securing the vehicle and removing the tire, I took a sawzall and cut the back of the old hub off. It's junk anyways. Then tap out with a hammer. I have ABS so I taped that wire up and out of the way so I didn't cut it. Seriously it's 10 minutes if you take a 2 minute break. Book time is 1.5 hours.

    NEVER STAND ON A TIRE IRON. When working on the rear axle of a vehicle you should CHOCK THE FRONT AXLE to prevent the vehicle from moving. Placing a tire under the work zone is a dangerous and prohibitive habit. Furthermore, in the event that your vehicle falls off of the jack stand you will have most likely ruined your rim. Also, those aren't screws holding the bearing hub assembly in place. They are bolts. Additionally, NEVER STRIKE INWARDS ON A BRAKE DRUM.

    Beware, this video doesn't show how to remove the hub assembly after you take off the four screws and it does not show how difficult it is to remove the four bolts holding on the hub assembly. The Scion xB is a little different. It is not possible to use a socket to get to the four bolts. You will have to use a 14mm box wrench and cheater bar to remove the four bolts to the hub assembly. The torque spec is 159 pounds so it takes a little muscle. A socket wrench will not fit. I tried a 14 mm crows foot attachment on my socket but the open wrench is not strong enough and will cam out/round off the bolts. I suggest a 6 point box wrench to avoid striping the bolt heads. Removing the hub will require either a special tool (kind of like a steering wheel puller) or 3ea 4x1/2 inch bolts, washers and nuts. The hub assembly has 3 holes in it. Put a bolt through the hole, put a washer and nut on the inside and screw the inside nuts to press out the hub assembly. Make sure the screw is pushing on the mount and not on the inside of the hub assembly. Also its easier to remove the ABS cable after the hub assembly is removed but make sure you have an extra hand to hold onto the assembly when it comes off so that you don't damage the wires. With the hub assembly lose, you will have better access to the ABS clips because you can turn the assembly upside down to take off the grey clamp shell locking clip and then pull up on the tab shown in the video to slide out the black clip.

      This comment is not right, it shows how to remove the hub @ 5:36 I don't understand why, when someone try to make something helpful like this video there is always a smart ass coming to try to discredit it, why don't you make your own video LisaLovesMySi

    • @JosrRocks
      @JosrRocks 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Javier why are u mad lol at 5:36 you can obviously see the video was cut. He had the socket in, cut the video, then hand loosened it. It didnt show how hard it would be, which is why lisa said it "takes a little muscle"

      @LisaLovesMySi....I know this is an old post....just where (on the old hub) are there 3 holes to insert a removal bolt like you say? And what does 4 x 1/2 bolt mean?....the car is metric and what kind of "puller" bolts are we really talking about. Even looking at the vid here both new and old hub assemblies don't show the existence of these 3 holes you speak of. Are you maybe confusing this with a 2011 xB or XD with rear disc brakes where the hub may have such 3 holes you speak about? The only way....for Scion xA / xB....is to hammer-out 2 oppiosoing wheel studs....and use THOSE holes....there are no holes otherwise in the front flange. Then, I guess you mean use 4" long x 1/2" diameter threaded rod or bolt with nuts and washer....to act as a "puller" bearing agains the rear backing plate of the drum. Make sure the point where it bears-down in the backing plate us further supported by heavier metal behind it....so you don't punch through.

      I used a Milwalkee 1/2 in impact gun with a 12mm wobble socket... and a 10 inch extension,,,, No idea what you're talking about!!!

    Yea well it won't come out , I had to use a big ass chisel and hammer and beat the backing plate off the axle and the bearing stuck in the backing plate still..hanging on the hangar so the brake line dont break.. because of rust.. you guys and your clean ass vehicles this never works. Because of rust.. I have no idea how to get it ou tg without breaking the brake line off and getting it o n a bench and pressing it out . What's your ass answer to that.

      +Pedro Sanchez I just tried doing this yesterday and had the same issue. I just bought some lubricating oil, which i'll spray on the front side and back side to try to free it up.
