- Hello TH-cam!
Today, I’m taking you on a hike through history. A walk through a single page in the history of Dartmoor. In this video, I head up to Brent Tor, the most westerly tor in Dartmoor National Park, to visit the church of St. Michael de Rupe.
Then I head out across fields and along country lanes to Gibbet Hill, where the bodies of convicts were gruesomely displayed to deter others from a life of crime.
Watch as a cold and misty atmospheric morning gives way to a warm and sunny day, with blue skies and stunning views.
This is Dartmoor!
Tors visited in this video:
#48 Brent Tor

Hi Dave , was great bumping into you on Gibbet Hill that day , keep up the great work ...
@@suehorton9343 it was great to meet you! I hope you enjoyed the rest of your walk, you’re the first subsribers I’ve ever bumped into! 😂 thank you for watching!
Hello local hiker, guide abd camper, you should walk the Archangels way, I did this over a couple of days from Brent tor was amazing!
@@tickettothestars7362 Hi! Thanks for watching and thank you for the suggestion!
I’d never heard of the Archangels Way until I filmed this video, but I saw the sign for it in the church and I’ve added it to my list 😊 I think it’ll make a great video!
Great route. Love the atmospheric look from that church. I know exactly what you mean that the camera doesn’t do it justice - but still good 👍
@@HorizonTreks thank you very much! It’s a beautiful walk, well worth doing!
Thanks for watching 😊
Another great video mate , i had planned weeks ago to do brentor this Thursday just gone but had to change plans didnt want you to think i was stalking your channel mate 😂
@@Forchesianshikescampsoutdoors haha, it’s definitely worth doing! A very beautiful spot
Dave, try a pair of Merrell Moab 3 Mid GTX Waterproof Walking Hiking Boots. Shop around, you can pick them up for around £70 if you don't mind the weirder colours. They feel like walking in carpet slippers. Good water resistance and support. I have done all my walks on Dartmoor , Shropshire and the Peak District in Moabs. They don't do half sizes after size 10, but good socks often make for a comfortable fit. I'm size 12.5 and have no issues. Another idea would be a good-quality military surplus pair of AKU's. Good enough to get me up Kinder Scout in mid-winter. Hope this helps. :) Great video! I'm just sorting out my kit for the Shropshire Hills next weekend. :)
@@stevefaulkner9391 thank you very much, Steve! I’ll have a look into both options.
Have a great time in the Shropshire Hills! What walks do you have planned?
Thanks for watching!
You were also standing inside an even older hillfort around the church!
@@rickymitchelmore9102 oh really?! I had no idea!
when I was up there I bumped into David Icke.
@@Camped_on_Dartmoor haha, how random! I had Brent Tor completely to myself
@@DaveDoesHiking he was doing some filming, but managed to have a chat with him..
