    This is the best "Why we bleep" episode so far! You actually addressed the ELEPHANT question, that is IN THE TITLE.
    Also thoughts about AI and music are mind blowing and eye-opening.
    Thanks to you and BT for this amazing talk.

    Great interview. Thanks for letting BT just flow. I'm not even a music producer. But instead a fan of his music. His work rate is phenomenal so it's great to get an insight into how he manages himself.

    Recently circled back around to listen to this again after it's original publish date. 🤯
    Been following BT since his first records. Amazing interview. BT continues to be way ahead of his time.

    Great conversation. BT seems like a very positive switched on guy who hasn't lost his passion even operating this many years in the music industry which is inspiring in itself.
    His points about AI in the future of music... mind blown. Having read the comments i was expecting the typical angles here - but his way of explaining it being to do with artists being the data set etc - incredibly fresh thinking. Great stuff

    Incredible conversation about AI, music, and the future......Surprised this doesn't have 100 times more views. The modular discussion was very interesting as well. There's the modular blackhole where people get consumed by more and more modules and cease to make music. Workflow is critical. This podcast is a keeper. Here's a drink to world peace.

    Thanks for that interview! Really inspiring! What are the techniques used for analyzing an artist’s training sets or figuring out your own preferences? How are we as artists supposed to do this to protect ourselves?

    RE BT and the OSCar comment. I had an OSCar but sold it late 80s. I take comfort in the hope it found a home with Mr BT or maybe Underworld or Paul Hartnoll . My OSCar got me the sack from a band, the guitarist in the band couldn't cope with the preset #1 it's Lead sound, so me (and my OSCar) got the "don't come back" phone call 😢 thanks for the podcast 👍

    Just listened on Spotify and had to come round here to say. Best episode yet! He's a surprisingly insightful individual. I heard of him for the first time last year when someone told me I sounded like him (don't hear it myself but upon listening I definitely took it as a compliment)
    His idea of granting ownership of an artists data set to the artist is one I have trouble seeing as working, but I would love it if it happened.

    • @TheSameDonkey
      @TheSameDonkey 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thinking more about people's data sets as an owned product has me thinking about the sample pack industry and what that will turn in to over time.
      Have you heard the stuff that's already coming out of jukebox by open AI. It's grainy and weird but it's also clear that we humans will be left in the dust before too long. BT is right imo the ownership of these data sets needs some serious regulation

    Great episode. Interesting view about artists "training set".
    Fortunately, the "sets" are constantly evolving, sometimes taking sharp turns as life surprises us and also don't only cover the artist music writing ability. There is a lot more.
    Patenting yourself. Humm.

    It's not been said explicitly in this podcast, but the danger isn't that some kid will use AI to clone your work, it's that the same companies that are already paying you too little for your music will use it to replace you completely. The playlists will keep playing, but the music in them will be owned by Spotify themselves, so that they can keep all the money.

    I don't think the AI-generated music is going to be a "red flag" kinda thing in the future. It's kind of a situation like the "sampling" as Alex resonated. People won't listen to AI-generated music like they are listening their radio or Spotify or whatever, meaning it won't generate money. If a bedroom producer kid use the AI to generate a sample from their favorite artist, that falls into the "sampling" category, legally and morally, like we are debating since the 80s. On the other hand, the artist's intellect (like their intellectual property does) should be protected against the record labels or streaming services. Questions questions, that was an awesome episode, Alex and BT you guys are the best!

    i think BT speaks about the space station (minute 57) - by ursa major ;) the digital reissue (no plugin, it was a little desktop unit with digital ins and outs only as far as i remember) is even rarer and imo better.

    With the fascinating AI discussion at the end. I have a question.
    If you let artists copyright their 'preference/training set'. Then will they start suing others for using their style (I mean outside of training AI). If so how will new genres evolve? How will new styles or music sub cultures evolve. Is there not a danger of essentially making that process of people coalescing around a sound illegal ?

    this is the best understanding of AI I've ever heard. I've only ever commented on spitfire's stuff about it. but what if we were using AI to make the variance and sample choice in a sampled instrument based on recording performances the way they do in movies? analyze the performances of amazing players and use that to arrange sample playback...you could do brilliant things with what people use to deepfake stars into porn. the technology isn't bad. the applications can be.

    But how/what can one even do 😅

    • @mylarmelodies
      @mylarmelodies  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hah!! The problem is it relies on rights laws that don’t exist, like sampling litigation it’ll mean laws have to catch up with technology, after a lot of damage is done - so as he says, you have to MAKE the AI and so then you can control it...right?!! 🤔😭
