I am from India, i have farm land to fence. The concrete poles are 6 in*6 in* 9 feet about 120 kgs very heavy with 2 hooks at 3 and 5 feet from one end. I need to get the Poles erected with 3 feet depth and 6 feet above ground. Now there is no electricity around, and i need to use mechanical advantage as an aid for lifting these poles. I will be able to modify this design of Tripod and use the ropes to lay the poles. As i write this, a perimeter of 2700 feet is to be fenced and i have bought another piece an " Hand wrench / Come along" with a 2 hook 9 feet to pull with my 4 wheeler - the soil is Black cotton, so my 4 wheeler may get stuck some places. All in all i will use this contemporary ( not at all primitive) method and i will benefit from this idea hopefully.

In the 19th century they would erect "shear legs" basically the same thing you have here but massive, using two of the ships longest spars, they would be lashed together at the top, and the "feet" of them would be spread to the maximum width of the deck. The top would be supported or "stayed" in every direction by multiple blocks and tackle, there would be wooden chocks nailed to the deck around the feet, and block and tackle set up taught in both directions on the feet to make slippage impossible. This would be set up over the hole in the deck to sway onboard the lower mast section and install it, which would weigh thousands of pounds. There would be a large triple pulley block and tackle hung under the top of the shear legs to haul the mast up with. Quite an impressive operation. These skills are ancient and can be made to be useful in so many ways. I'm a bit biased being a rigger, but you can greatly increase your versatility by carrying a small block and tackle in your tool kit with a fairly long length of appropriate sized line, a pair of double sheave blocks that are 3" blocks will fit easily in the smallest of kits and can tremendously increase the force that you can exert by yourself or with multiple people, and can be used in conjunction with many of your other setups. a pair of doubles will give you 5:1 mechanical advantage if the load is attached to the hauling end, and 4:1 if visa versa. I know this is meant to be more or less a channel utilizing not so many man made tools but with large shear legs cut from old trees and a small tackle you can move heaven and earth, and the possibilities go up exponentially! Here is an example of what I'm talking about. The techniques with the tripod is great when you need to move large boulders out of the way or even fallen logs over a road when you don't have a chainsaw with you. Cody, In general your choice of knot should depend on ease to tie, function, and ease to cast off. If you have trouble untieing a knot use a different knot. Although you probably know this after all this time.

Darrell Lee you both need to learn a bit more about knots. As John Strauss pointed out above, a good knot does not come untied until you want it to, and then is easily undone. You already know how to make loops in a rope using the alpine butterfly, that’s impressive. With just a clove hitch and a bowline, you have the basics down. Since you’ve just shown us how to lift heavy objects with a tripod - thank you - I’m sure you will appreciate knowing how to gain the mechanical advantage the trucker’s hitch offers. It’s all out there on the wonderful world of TH-cam. Also, you may want to check out "theparacordstore.com" for some useful items related to working (and unworking) knots with paracord. In the meantime, a small knitting needle will help you untie some of those knots you’ve already jammed up.
Surely, rather than the two loops in the rope going down it would be easier to place you long pole over the top of the fulcrum that the tripod makes and then just have a rope on the end of that tied to the load. iIf you are wanting to move the load you simply push down to lift and then rotate the pole to move. The tripod would be positioned to one side of the load and not over it.
Very clever and well explain it is in a class of its own I will be doing this with 5 or 6 m typod thanks and look forward to keeping in tuch good luck👍
You mentioned the farther apart the knots, the farther you could lift, but the closer the knots, the more weight you can lift. Lift a little, block in place and lift again.
Pretty cool. I am wondering what if you use just two legs instead of tripod. This way you can move the load one step at a time to the direction you wan to go, and there won't be the third leg being in the way. Just lift and move, lift and move, lift and move, and so on.

Ok dude. When you have a knot that tightens so much that you can't undo it, simply make the knot you wish to use and just before it is almost taut slip a piece of material such as a sapling, a stick, a branch, a nail, a wrench, a fid or anything that won't break, right in the synch part of the knot and let the rope do its job. When done twist the knot and the "tool" you stuck in, and remove it. Any knot now can be untied easily. Good luck
When you make the next manual, show first the desired function without explanation. Many people see its structure and purpose immediately. The stand and lever do not require explanation. Nodes are more important to display. When you only have a thin rope, you can bundle it to reinforce it.Tree is suitable use for stand. Bar between trees also. Rope between trees with heavy weight pull them down. Heavy objects are safety hazards. When you lift something which need table or stand, folding legs is easy make to turn underneath object when lift it.
