    When I built a triton engine I built it with a Windsor bottom end and a Romeo upper I like the fact that the Romeo uses girdled cam caps and the Windsor uses clip in rist pins. so I can do it all myself. I'll use cams out of a 13 e350 5.4 with a 5.4 expedition t.b. and Forged truck crank, the timing covers are interchangeable just be careful of your upper bolts the 5.4 heads useded a 10 x1.5mm threaded bolt and the 4.6 used an 8×1.25mm bolt, that also changed between R&W engines. A fella can build a good one with all OE parts if you know what to look for.

    It is possible to determine if you have a Romeo or Windsor engine by looking at the 8th character in the vehicle's VIN number.
    A "6" in the 8th character position refers to 4.6L SOHC Windsor produced engines.
    A "W" refers to 4.6L SOHC Romeo produced engines.
    Confusing, right? W=Romeo / 6=Windsor.

    Just looked up '11 Vic and I have a Romeo engine, was actually surprised living in Edmonton Alberta, that it wasn't from Windsor Ontario. There's also a badge on my block from Ford saying it was rebuilt in the USA towards the end of 2016, about a year before I bought it. The fella I got it from buys and sells them, he said over the years he sold over a hundred of them by that point, paid 2700$ for the one I got but it was the nicest one of the bunch of 7 or 8 he had at the time, even put it on a lift and showed me the undercarriage before buying.

      I read several years ago that the 4.6 had about 9 different blocks and at least 7 different heads.
      All I know is the first few years they had a LOT of valve seal and timing chain guide issues. Our local LEO car mechanics became experts.
      Smoke when idling and decelarating.
      Ive had several.

    • @fastfox851
      @fastfox851 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@hotrodray6802 yeah, the very first ideation of the 4.6 in the town car and then the crown Vic has issues with the angle that the injectors sprayed fuel into the cylinder. They were spraying at an angle that was causing the fuel to be sprayed directly onto the cylinder walls and it was washing the oil off and causing premature wear.

    • @fastfox851
      @fastfox851 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They have had issues with timing chains throughout the years of the 4.6. I was looking at an 04 with 119k and when you hit the throttle and the rpms were coming down you could hear the chain rattle. Instead of the chain tensioner using oil pressure they should have used spring tension.

  • @PrivateEyeYiYi

    Back in the 60-70 time period there was a real difference between 351 engines produced in Windsor and those coming out of Cleveland. The Cleveland engines had bigger ports, valves and other internals resulting in more power. The difference wasn't always clear though, as a car would just say 351 on the side. So whether a car came with Cleveland or Windsor engine became a real issue.
    But I've never heard of any significant difference between Cleveland and Romeo.

      Want to get bothered even more? The vast majority of "Windsor" 5.0 and 351 engines were actually made at Ford Engine Plant #1 in Cleveland, Ohio. The "Cleveland" V8 had a short production life, Ford had two assemblies in Cleveland. From 1970 to 2001, they made 302, 351 and later 5.0 engines at Plant #1, right next to the airport. So if you have a 351 Windsor in your F150 or a 5.0 in your Foxbody, your Windsor engine was built in... Cleveland.

    • @cardinaloflannagancr8929
      @cardinaloflannagancr8929 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      None had factory duels police or civilian without an h pipe unless done aftermarket. I went to straight duels in my 2nd panther car, yeah that was reminded within a month with an h. Sounded like my buddies old 72 LeMans and actually less responsive than when it was single factory. Even NASCAR's use a x pipe to balance the exhaust between the banks. An h is slightly cheaper and no real difference unless your really adding serious power.

    HELP
    i need someone’s help ASAP on a question, can’t find it anywhere. I have an 05 crown Vic p71, looking to replace the front seats with a bench. I was told an 05 town car may fit, but I was hoping someone here has some experience with this, and could tell me what to do. Thank you!

    • @jasoncooper3116
      @jasoncooper3116 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should fit. I put the seats out of a 98 Towncar in my 07 P71. It was a little more complicated because of the different year models, but 05 to 05 should be straight forward. I actually disassembled both sets of front seats so I could use the base of the Crown Vic seat with the Towncar pads, covers, and the complete back of the towncar seats. That was just to avoid wiring issues.

    Ford has been using "Romeo's" and "Windsor's" in the F150's since 1997. You also can't swap the Intakes from a Windsor to a Romeo. It will leak water in the back right corner where the Intake meets the head.
