Our dance company was set to return to the stage on March 29 in Greensboro at the Tanger Center Open House for the first time in a little over 2 years, but like everyone COVID-19 changed our plans and the company was set to remain on hiatus...until now.
One of our biggest goals before we resumed our professional dance performances was to ensure our dancers were paid for rehearsal and performance. Too many dance companies in our area are underfunded and that means a majority of dancers are dancing for free or very little pay. We want to lead the charge in making sure dance artists are fully supported for their time, effort, and energy they bring to the studio and the stage and set a new standard for dance in North Carolina.
We reached our fundraising goal and five company members who were with us before the hiatus were preparing themselves for their big return - only to have it taken away. Now, in lieu of the Juneteenth Celebration of Arts we planned for June 20, we are moving online so that our dancers can continue to train and work as we all fight COVID-19 together. Our dance artists will be paid for their participation and we need your help to sustain this initiative.
Conquering COVID-19 will be an online series of videos of dancers in our company and guest dancers. Some videos will be performances, others classes, and others interviews of our dancers. We will even showcase some old videos from our time on stage. We want to stay connected with our community until the great day we can all come together and celebrate the love and joy of LIVE dance performances again.
