This was very helpful, thank you! I was still trying to paint like I was using acrylic or oil and it was just a mess. I started in watercolor about 30 years ago because it seemed so easy ... and is the second most difficult and finicky medium I've ever tried (behind chalk, for me at least). Was so much easier as a 2 year old. After about 6 months, I put it down. I picked it up again a couple of years ago as a travel journal, so I best learn how to do it. STILL as frustrating, but more portable than acrylic or oil. Making progress and I'm frustrated more times than not, but I'll keep on trying.

Me too! More often I am frustrated then having fun but I'm not ready to give it up and go back to oils which is so much easier and more forgiving
Very interesting and "cool" subject. I would never have thought to put a campfire with that landscape.
Matthew, you make me WANT to paint.
Many thanks Matthew. Your videos are so helpful and well put together. They are a joy to watch and learn from.🙏🙂
Wow, what a unique subject! The flames and logs turned beautiful! Very important topic , thanks a lot
Good discussion and illustration of the importance of values. Thank you for sharing your expertise.
Great example for values. I did like the washed out painting though, had an ephemeral, dreamy quality to it.
Super impressive! Nice work!
Helpful!
yes, I'm getting the idea. is this from imagination?
Everything is built in layers. Don’t go too dark too fast.
You are just wetting the back of your paper on just the first wash, correct?
