When all else fails, you can use his big toe for a crow bar!!! Thanks for making me laugh, I really needed that!!! My wife passed away this past September after thirty one years of marriage, and there hasn't been very much laughter since. Thanks again fellas!!!
Sorry for your loss!
Thank you for your kind words.
Sorry to hear bro. My condolences
When it came to stuck nuts and bolts, Dad always said, "You just have to outsmart them."
Wise Dad!🙂
Div & the Hobbit🦶earned their 🍺🍺🍺today. ❤👍🏴
I call it a knuckle, or a Spindle.
Nice work guys, making hard work seem fun and it really is with good friends!
I learned something. I’ve never seen a Beetle front end end stripped down before.
Forest Engineering with the flame axe 🪓 🔥 Lekka Div
The Bare Foot Mechanic ( Wayne ) is a good mate.
I hate hot weather but i love the Reno bug
Thanks for another , Brother !
Love watching you guys, you got humor in the shop , and that's priceless!!!!😊
If you can laugh at yourself, you always have something to laugh about 😁
Good work guys 😅
Thanks 😅
Love this channel!!!!!!!!!
Swerved for a Butterfly 🦋🦋and hit a tree🌲🌲🌲
Sounds like it was a great day's work it's coming along great, thanks for sharing, all the best to yous and your loved ones, Have a Lekka one
You guys have way too much fun when you're "working". Thanks Div.
It's all about attitude 🙂
Super humorous video Diff. You and the barefoot mechanic are quiet a crew. Sure would like to purchase a license plate from you. Would even include my Purple Heart in exchange. Great stuff y'all.
I will give you a license plate for free. The problem will be getting it to you. We no longer have a postal service in SA and have to use courier companies. Expensive!
Little by little 👍
Right!
Thanks Div!
Kool..I have never seen a VW bug front end disassembled. 😊
Must be the year for heat and humidity this year. Same hear in Oz.
look at me learning mechanic things😹 great video!
😁👍
Well.. that was all new to me! I'm looking forward to the adjustable bit you're going to make. Cheers from the shed
You and me both!🙂
Just a caution on old brakes. The dust in the brake assembly may contain high levels of asbestos (great brake lining material). Wash things down with cleaner/solvent into a disposable container (antifreeze container with side cut out lined with a shop towel works well) and avoid spreading the dust around or breathing. Cheers.
It must be beer thirty get cooler go out to the pool and relax will see you in the next video Take care Div and barefoot Wayne.
Always look forward to Wifey Wednesday!
Great video Div,
Thanks brother!
Ok Div, seeing this, you know that I definitely need to send you those things I emailed you about.
😁I better go check my mailbox...
Forest engineering/Mc Guyver 👍 go for it guys.
Very interesting, thanks
great video again man. always wondered how vw front suspension worked. matt ireland.
Those torsion springs make the best chisels for splitting body spot welds,,,tip i picked up about 30 yrs ago,,,still have some 😉
Hey Div,
Tearing that beam apart brought back some 50 year old memories of me building my first VW sand buggy.
I wanted to soften the front spring lift.
I found just removing one layer of bars did what I wanted.
When you are ready to put that lower set of bars back in, try moving the broken bar to the middle of the pack.
See ya in the next video.
If you wipe the grease off the ends of the spring packs you can put cable ties on them to keep them together. Then wrap them in some plastic to keep them clean. Or not.
We just use some masking tape to keep the packs together
Siempre interesante... tuve un solo Beetle... y jamas, jamas, desarme sus suspension delantera... wow... es un verdadero misterio el que ahi escondia!!! Un saludo para ti, y tu compañero sin zapatos, muy divertidos!!
Cool I never disassembled the front end of any of my Volkswagens way back in the day so it’s interesting to see
Если с другом вышел в путь, - веселей дорога!
Это слова из русской песни. 😊
Nice words!
I’m a kroil fan deep creep works pretty good too.
Div, watching you guys strip that Beetle front beam assembly gave me "flashbacks" of my misspent youth.
Wayne the soles of your feet must be tough mate to walk about a workshop floor. Even if I wear my thongs,(flip-flops, Jandals etc), in my workshop I still seem to find a metal shaving or splinter hanging out of my foot. Things that make you go OOOH!! or FARK!!! Cheers.
I think his soles must be like leather! 😅
Thx both
Love this project guys, well done and looking forward to seeing the finished project..😉👍 By the way you and barefoot were discussing what the front hubs were called, here in the UK, we would describe them as the front stub axles..🙂
That's the word I was looking for! Thanks!
Awesome evening brothers from another country another awesome adventure on wifey Wednesday 😂😂😂
Great video guys . Dif just remember, the only time it's ok to brag about having the smallest one ....is when your at the range with your mate's and are holding the target for proof .🤔🍻🍻🍻
😂
another entertaining and educational video.
Yoooo!!! Div, I always enjoy seeing you guys work together!! I was flinching when he was swinging that hammer around his foot 😬😬 And I definitely learned something new, Ive never seen beetle suspension tore apart, crazy stuff!! See ya in the next one!!
Beetle suspension is actually brilliant engineering! Simple and very effective. Lekka boet!
Lunch time Video...😎 excellent . Thanks Diff

Great to see you fellows today. The Reno-bug progress moving along well. Take care and have a Lekka one. 👍👍
👋 ..brother diff..brother Wayne..
👍😎
Lekka brother Don!🫡
💚🇬🇧🌱 nice work dudes🤙 I'm disappointed to hear to call them flashlights & not torches 🤔
👍👍👍👍👍
Lekka video Div! Good to see Wayne on the job again. 🍺
Another good one 👍👍
Diffy, interesting vid. I've never seen this part of a vw chassis before .Awesome engineering. Awesome lesson. Your vids are always gr8. but fun too, specially when Barefoot (mech) helps you out. lovin' this build. Bit short. I'm havin' a quite one too (beer) in support of the hot weather (hot in Auss too) cheers gr8 vids (longer one next time if possible
We support the hot weather often!😂
We call them "Steering Knuckles" in the USA.
Hey Diff and Wayne, how many accidents and toes did Wayne have on his feet because of no shoes? 🦶👣Yeah, it's hard at times when you are both left-handed. Keith, my buddy is left-handed and I am right-handed. It really comes in very handy at Times. You guys are still having fun. And that is half of the reason we do this stuff. WOW, 36 DEG. Man, it is warm here at 9 DEG.C. 😊🌞 Keep up the great videos Diff. From Ontario, Canada, Thanks for sharing.🍁👍👍
Well, he still has all his toes!😂
I laughed so hard lol
That was Divinitely toe jammed on there 🦶
If only those Germans made them adjustable from day one! Would save us all a whole lot of fabricating.😂 I see most folks overseas going for the low setting. Most cases here in Africa go for as high as possible!
Baja style as high as it will allow
We want the low slung look in this case🙂
@@ratrodsafrica What would the SuperBug Rostyle rims look like in your vision for the RenoBug
@@JustinPaul1st I'm going to widen stock Beetle steelies and fit Mooney hubcaps, old school style 🙂
Brakes and Steering are two areas I never take short cuts on. It may not run well but it has to Stop and Steer.
Agree!
i see the barefoot mech. is using his temp. stick so you don't over heat the metal .😁👍
😂
Enjoyed seeing the front suspension of a VW being disassembled. look forward to seeing how you will make it adjustable.
Hey Guys! I have the same impact in my garage that I used yesterday. Works every time. Cheers. Minus 5C in Edmonton
😁👍
Aloha! That's a King Pin front beam vs Ball joint. They are very strong and used a lot in racing VW's! I wonder if it could be single bagged to adj height? If I remember correct, they would cut and turn the center section to raise or lower. Great build as always!!
Have done a single bagged setup and works great. Link pin suspensions are great! Simple, strong and effective 🙂
Can't wait to see what your mind comes up with!! Great work from S.A! @@ratrodsafrica
I think the king and link pin suspension was made until 67 then changed to ball joint in 68. That was at least true here in the States anyway.
Over here all Beetles built by VW South Africa had link pins, right until they stopped production. We never had ball joints, 4 lugs and disc brakes
Those poor toes😂. Maybe some dropped spindles but not sure if you can get them for drums. Would help to keep geometry nice and adjusters as well. You could always narrow the beam but I’m guessing there is no space in the inner fender. Looks like this isn’t your first rodeo. I’m thinking you could drop the back by kick up rear forks. But that would screw up all your other work. Maybe flip old splitty reduction axles. With sealed bearings. Will be good to see the progress.
We will play with castor shims to get geometry right. And yes, can't narrow the beam. Smaller wheels front and back, a bit of negative camber and I think we will be sweet. Let's see...
👍
✌
I have never worked on a v w front end that's alright.
Woooot.
I love Wayne and his safety shoes.
Mine fit between my toes
👣👣👣
Yeah, Forest Gump Engineering 😂, look ma no shoes
😂
last week barefoot was a foot model
😂
Barefoot mechanic needs a pair of steel toe saddles.
😂
👍😄what did think about the idear for spare wheel
Want to keep it simple, so we will just chuck it in the front🙂
@@ratrodsafrica ok thks for your reply
The "Barefoot mechanic", lol. I DID just by an African made pair of shoes called the "Barefoot Rangers.". He should try a pair from Jim Greene footwear
Where did you learn to speak English so well? Did it start because of British colonization in your past? I know, I should Google it. Thanks!
English is one of the official languages in SA and I was taught it at school as a second language. I also traveled for many years where I spoke it a lot
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷👊👊👊👊
36c??? we just got rid of the snow here! lol
Crazy isn't it?
Not swing arms....on the front they are called torsion arms!
Some sources call them trailing arms. Swing arms, torsion arms, trailing arms, does it really matter...
What does your friend think that's so funny laughing at everything 🤔
He just laughs at anything. That's his way 😅
Two left hands don't make a ri!
no foot was burn in this video🤣😂😉
Only hammered!😂
🇨🇦🤓🤟
Wens so ek het n stukkie van dai gebreekte een ge haad ,hulle maak die beste sny bytel op aarde Diff🫡
Stuk van 'n leaf spring werk ook nie sleg nie 🙂
The French word for hammer is: ma toe.
😂👍
The barefoot Mechanic should wear thongs (flip flops) to protect his feet when hammering. ha Ha
😂
Of course you’re both left handed, you’re south of the equator.
😂
Div, Why does left handed Wayne always look like he's working with shoes on his hands?
😂
Two lefts don't make it right.. 😅
Two left hands don't make a right
don'y you have an air hammer
I do. But not very powerful...
Just do not heat the shock they can explode.
Yes, can go Boom!😅
You better do the brakes right or wifey won't stop on the back of your head either 😅😂😊
watch barefoots toes
Two lefts dosent make a right!
In this case it does!!😅
I was cringing with hammer hitting near the barefoot mechanic’s toes 😮!! In the states the type 1 (beetle) had king pin front end up till ‘65 and the wheels were 5 lug until ‘67. Not sure out there though? Keep up the great work, ya deserve a couple of cold brews, cheers!!
The ball joint/4 lug was never available here. Volkswagen SA used the king pin/swing axle setup on all models until production was stopped
Interesting 🤔 Thank you for the education. Always cool to learn what was available around the globe!
💚🇬🇧🌱 nice work dudes🤙 I'm disappointed to hear to call them flashlights & not torches 🤔
Both me and Wayne spent time in the US, which is were we picked up on flash lights. Common term here in SA is torch though
