good point that it's not just as being connformant with current IJF rules but also avoids the pitfalls of being trapped in a poor position or submission for any grappling
Jon Thomas is my Shintaro of BJJ; his thoughts on starting your escapes early, of filtering open guard into headquarters, and his simple but comprehensive closed guard system are all cornerstones of my BJJ game. If he and Shintaro collab on a paid video I'm putting money down, and I say that as someone that's already bought multiple Shintaro videos.
I love it. I do a sweep with similar grips from the bottom of side control. I’m wondering if you extend the arm at the belly (like a gut punch) combined with the momentum, you could probably send him into a big fall on his back. Does that make sense?
Komichiwa Sensei It's too clean,....clean is good but there is a point where something is too clean it becomes unreal.....like can you perform this move where the opponent is refusing to being thrown(struggling under clinch) in an environment of heightened tension, coursing adrenaline and fear?...arigato😤.
One of the reason kata guruma is pretty mediocre in bjj is because people just drop uke on their back for safety reasons but you can't land a crucifix with a broken neck
it is a fireman's carry. kata guruma is basically just a fireman's carry adapted for the gi. back then when judo used to allow leg grabs, kata guruma used to be done with one hand going up the middle through the groin. nowadays, judo practitioners have adapted kata guruma for the new ruleset that doesn't allow you to touch the legs and that's the version you're seeing in this video. this version of kata guruma is actually quite popular in judo too, so perhaps in some weird way, the leg grab ban actually made effective in judo competition. haha
For a second I thought the grappling dummy was chilling out in the corner and reading a book 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣 that would be amazing!!
He's taking notes 😅
Master Higashi you spoil us with your knowledge.
How does he know sooooo much lol. He delivers high quality on a constant basis

Bonjour messieurs excellent analyses merci beaucoup bonne courage pour d'autres vidéos à bientôt
That's Jon Thomas, right? I'm not hallucinating?

東先生、伺いますか?左手で受の袖を取ったら現在の柔道にもよろしいですか?ズボンを取らなくてよろしいだと思います。
宜しくお願いします
Anyone know the Gi brand Shintaro is wearing?
This works with no gi, sensei Higashi?
Oh boy, I love this throw in both judo and wrestling. Plus, being a heavyweight makes this easier because it is less expected.

This maybe even works NoGi
I've used this in a no gi grappling tournament

It seems like a modified version of Fireman’s Carry.
Kata guruma is a fireman's carry. Kano may have seen it in wrestling training and competition and adapted it for judo.
