12:08 slight error, the mag wasn't empty from her firing, it's actually a really cool small detail. It had an extract malfunction which is why you can see the casing stuck. This is caused due to her not holding the gun properly to control the recoil which caused the gun to jam. This is something that happens in real life when you don't handle the recoil

    • @cullenkuykendall
      @cullenkuykendall ปีที่แล้ว +47

I personally haven't made it to that point yet but if it shows the casing get caught in the slide then that is amazingly accurate. I was teaching a kid to shoot a sidearm recently and because he didn't have a firm grip and locked wrists the sidearm would catch brass in the slide frequently. Kudos to Capcom if they got this right.

The RE2Make has a vision of the future with the giant alligator. When he blows up the pipe in its mouth he says "Chew on that you overgrown son of a bitch!" which felt like a nice nod to his future personality. The two games truly feel connected now because in the RE2Make he clearly becomes infatuated with helping a secret agent on a secret mission... and this game he gets to live that life. So it feels like Leon is in the end result of what he wanted and he comes off as a just a little unhinged and A-Okay with ultra violence now lol! Which is why all of his kills feel strangely more brutal in this game. There's a kind of PTSD rage in him, but he's still kind of the giant nerd that he was in RE2Make.

    • @GBDupree
      @GBDupree ปีที่แล้ว +1

I know they made a level in one of the Wii lightgun games explaining it. But I think I heard that those levels are actually based on a game Capcom made that was never released outside Japan because it failed (it might even have also been a lightgun game too)? I think it would benefit them greatly to make it because seeing the story and setting from the Wii game, its a great setup for a real game. Perhaps as DLC if they are willing to make some for RE4R, though considering how much content is in this game compared to the other Remakes, I think they blew through the budget already, lol.
Now that I think about it, it would be cool if they made it and it shows Leon trying to learn Spanish (since RE4R shows he knows it now), so some of the files could be in Spanish and Leon can't read them entirely. Then when you play through the game again as Krauser who is already fluent, he reads the files and then comments on them, and this is how they explain his reasoning for wanting power and going down the path that leads to RE4. Sort of like in Nier when the second playthrough you get more information from seeing the events from a different perspective. The Wii game does something like that already iirc.

That said, it would be cool if RE6 kept its separate campaigns, but get rid of the annoying characters like Helena and Jake, and replace her with Ashley (maybe an Ashley/Sherry campaign). I think the best change made to the remake was Leon’s characterization. In the 2005 game Leon felt like an entirely different person than the Leon from RE2. Re2 Leon was a dorky but loveable rookie cop with a strong sense of altruism.
But in Re4 is a generic action movie badass, only made slightly believable in that fact that he went through the events of Re2.
In the remake he comes across as the same person from 2 but this time post-academy and deeply scared. He’s still cocky and throwing out one-liners in the remake but it comes across more like someone who’s seen too much in their days and he’s just trying to make light of his circumstances by this point.
I really liked how yes, even though he is a still powerful secret agent, even he seems surprised by what he’s capable of. He’s constantly saying “not bad huh” and even one line he outright says after killing Dr.Salvador “suprised? yeah me too…” As if he’s really making it all through this through pure instinct from the training and luck.
Never thought I’d see Re4 Leon as believably human. And that’s a massive accomplishment on the devs part.

@@_...0.._ To each their own. At least we now have these 2 different versions of RE4 leon. I guess neither approach is better than the other. Definitely agree that the relationship between Ada and Leon. It was strange in the original to have Leon already know that Ada was alive and working for wesker....like he just found out between games and it was a missed opportunity to have that moment where Leon is happy to see someone he thought was dead.
Idk why they did the same exact thing where he already knows in the remake...but it's even worse because it seems like ada has less screen time, and Ada comes across like she doesn't care about Leon at all. And the removal of the "she's like a part of me I can't let go" line was an odd choice.
The one thing I can say about the new leon is that is lines are just....way weaker than in the original.

I ended up finishing it an hour ago and I loved it, the original cheesy lines were iconic but I loved the story beat changes and basically all the changes. The combat is so smooth and using the knife is million times better the original. The boss fights are perfect and especially Krausers that entire fight was the best moment in the game.
Parrying and dodging was super fun and it felt smooth and once I memorized It I felt like a ninja parrying was so satisfying, again krausers fight was so fuckin good.
Controls took a bit to get used to but once I did it felt like butter everything felt so quick once I got it nailed down.
I beat it on hardcore and it felt like a true challenge some parts were annoying but I loved the bosses I died a few time but it felt even more rewarding big cheese, salazar, Krauser perfect. I’m looking forward to NG+ so badly and playing it on professional.
And as someone who loves resident evil lore seeing how Krauser was expanded on so much and felt like he had a true bond with Leon like a master and disciple, it was just perfect everything just felt so fleshed out and serious I loved it, and his death was done perfectly in the remake in the original it was laughable, Luis was also done so well and his death was done justice he went out like a badass.
Overall I loved it I played the original about 2 times and I always thought it was okay but it was never my favourite (I love the ps1 trilogy the most) this remake was so done so well I can’t wait to dump more time into it. Hopefully code veronica gets this treatment next

Adding a bit more to my statement Leon had some pretty memorable quotes especially when he shot Salazar off the cliff and said you talk too much it got a chuckle and a smile out of me which doesn’t happen often to me when I play games since I care more for serious moments.
Minor characters like Mike and the Merchant were given justice and were done so well. The merchant having a line for almost every situation and he even falls asleep if you leave him for awhile and he has unique dialogue for every weapon you bought these moments were such nice attentions to detail.
As for Villains Sadler felt super intimidating when he controlled Ashley and almost got her to kill Leon, los iluminados overall was expanded on and were way more disturbing especially the opening sequence and the optional files you can find expanding on how they took over the population. And Krauser they did him so much justice from his first introduction where he killed Luis he is just so much more memorable to me him and Leon talking about their past together makes him feel like he actually had a relationship with Leon, and reading the files that go over operation Javier which I experienced in darkside chronicles it was so cool. His fight was also done way much more better and his cutscene’s with Leon In his 2nd fight were so much more well done and not silly like the original and how he tells you to go fetch pieces like a dog, And his death scene where he feels pride in Leon and makes him finish the job was beautiful compared to his pathetically forgettable death in the original.

I agree for the most part. I liked Ashley a lot in the remake. She was really scared at first, but gained more confidence and bravery then I ever could have had in that situation. You pointed out their little in game dialogues where Leon ask’s Ashley if she’s ok, but I also like when she sometimes asks Leon if he’s okay after a fight. If your health is high Leon will say it’s no problem, but if he’s hurt Ashley will notice and suggest taking a breaks. It’s sweet. I definitely felt their desperation when you as Leon have to stagger to Luis’s lab holding Ashley as you are just about to lose control.
I actually kinda thought Ada was a bit better than I thought she was in the original. Her aloof nature and unwillingness to explain what’s going on makes her often seem like she had no emotions and a frustrating character, but towards the end of the game when she was helping more I started to like her. I feel for once like she was actually helping at times because she cared about Leon, not just because helping him was useful for her plans. And of course it seemed like at the end she wasn’t going to give the plagas to Wesker, but not sure how that would make sense given RE5. Maybe I just don’t remember, but he gets it anyway right?

    • @oddgbmo3036

Gotta disagree with Ada. The direction there was clearly a mistake. She still has her cheesy dialogue yet the actor doesn't play into it. Makes her seem monotone and expressionless especially during the first 75% of the game.
If they revised the script to actually fit the character they were making to fit the vision they had for her in this game it would have been the way to go. Yet the way she delivers the lines using the script she had in the original makes the original Ada and voice actor outshine her by a large margin.

I'm sure separate ways is coming later as dlc given that Leon title drops it after you kill the last boss, and I'm expecting its going to be expanded upon and maybe include some epilogue stuff (that one is wishful thinking). My theory is we will see what happens to the other Verdugo, and they may have cut the experiment boss fight and given it to ada considering it is the only noticeable cut enemy and they may want to give her story more unique encounters. Idk it just seems like they held her back from the story on purpose rather than neglecting to expand on her. Just my two cents though

Funny thing is I originally said Ashley is even more annoying now than she was. And thats true. She starts off really annoying. But overtime she grew and by the end of the game I actually really like her character and feel like I actually know her. Especially because her and Leon talk to each other. Remake made me realize how silent the original is. Even in cutscenes they barely talk and then Ashley asks him out. She doesn't even do that this time which is funny to me when half way through I was basically shipping them.
As for the overall story, 4s story has never made sense. Leon wants to take Ashley home, before they know whats going on and that they've the plaga. Los Illuminados wants Ashley... to go home so they can take over America. So why don't they let Leon get Ashley home? Instead their plans to stop him lead him to the island where they remove the plaga, something that shouldn't even be possible in their facility in the original. Also the ganados attack Ashley or at least Leon so recklessly, they will kill her without a care, which fails their own mission. In the remake, I find the story to make even LESS sense. Unless its stated in a file or something, they never tell you what they want Ashley for. Mostly because you don't meet Saddler until the last bit of the game. Also the only way to remove the plaga is via the laser in Luis' lap in their facility. It now makes sense since we've a reason why it is there. But if they never chased Leon, and ruined his mission, wouldn't meet up with Luis ever again and ever had gotten the key to the lab. So they were their own undoing. Overall I like the gameplay of 4 more with some story beats, but prefer the original in terms of characters and story.

Yeah, despite the changes, the remake leaves out a lot of info to the point that it feels like supplementary material, and that the OG RE4 is "required reading" still. They flesh out a lot of stuff, yet leave no clue for other things. Like I don't think you will actually understand what is going on with Salazar unless you already knew his backstory from OG 4 (even though some lipservice is given to that backstory, like his family's gravestones). And as you said, they never mention what their plan is for Ashley (unless I missed it) but there is a note detailing how they took her in the first place.

I did enjoy the change they made to the minecart section though, but I wish they allowed you to use your own pistol considering the heavy nerfs they did to the Red 9 that they force you to use for that section for some reason.

If I remember those notes correctly, they're found in the Verdugo arena near the elevator. If those are the ones you mean, than context clues in the notes (specifically the mention of a "left hand" and "two is better then one") imply that U3 as mentioned in the remake is actually Salazar's left and right hands, the Verdugos.
I may be wrong since I only read those notes once, but I remember coming to that conclusion fairly definitively. I'm sure someone will correct me.

    • @GBDupree

Its so weird for them to remove a boss fight, but then to add more info about them in the game. The better thing to do is to make it so that the boss doesn't exist in this version, rather than confirming it exists only to never encounter it. And while I don't like its sequence with the button pressing and whatnot, I think they still should have left the actual fight where you shoot it until it dies, its a simple enough encounter that it wouldn't be hard to add, and I liked it well enough. Then they could remove the bad parts but keep the good so the files lead up to something.

that's a shame as i still thing he should be cocky even if its a more serious tone some people cover nerves with jokes so maybe haveing him start off cocky as he is sure nothing can be as bad as racoon city then as he gets deeper into the game have his shell harden as he realises that this is actually just as bad if not worse than back then something he didnt think was possible, also ied say have him be more light and upbeat around others particular Ashly as he is trying to make sure they stay as calm as possible as lets face it this is a really terrifying situation, i mean just been kidnapped would be bad but then all this umbrella nonsense on top of that would be enough to make most lose their minds.
basically on the outside he is like ""don't worry i got this"" or ""wow your ugly, when you were born did the dr salp your face by mistake?"" but on the inside he is like ""ok keep it together you can get out of this alive if your careful, now is no time to freak out it will only get you killed, remember your training.""

It was already hinted that Leon knew Ada wasn't dead, he's not the gullible boy from RE2 he been to war, he been lied to and used , so hes a colder person, it makes sense he wouldn't care that Adas alive, plus we can assume he figured out that Ada gave him the rocket, no one else knew he was there, he still went to police academy its not impossible to assume, she had a grappling hook, plus their setting up the dlc for Ada , why give an after credit scene if they didn't they weren't going to remake the dlc and RE 5

I do miss Leon's quips. He still has a few one liners but it kinda feels like a half step, it's strange seeing him act so serious 90% of the time then dropping the odd cheesy line. I feel like they should have just fully committed one way or the other.

My issue with Ada at the end of the game is how she acts shocked when she's told that billions will die if she delivers the samples. If she really did care, she would have given up the G virus sample in the RE2 remake. So why have a conscious now? If there was some doubt in the previous game I would have accepted it but it seemed like there was no motivation for her to betray the organization and not deliver the Las Plagas samples.

    • @sonicplays8740

@@sonicplays8740 that could be a reason why, but I feel like Ada would've understood the ramifications of delivering the G virus since she saw firsthand what the T virus did to people and the bio weapons it could produce ( the infected alligator in the sewers and the Mr X pursuing her briefly )

Not played the game, but I've watched various "iconic" moments and I'm more for the original's story.
    1. Ada's impact is a lot worse, unimpressive for the most part and doesn't carry the same charm. Like shooting Big Cheese through the window in the original was impactful despite a blurred sight of her. Ada's "betrayal" at the end wasn't nearly as good. Didn't hold Leon at gunpoint to take it from him, offered to give him a lift with the helicopter, like what? It's not even a betrayal like the original, which really added to her mysterious character.
    2. Leon calling Krauser major made him sound like a little boy who lacked confidence.
    3. Leon being held at knife point at the start of his knife fight with Krauser made him seem incompetent.
    4. Ada shooting out Krauser's knife in the knife fight made sense because they were technically working together for Wesker. Luis shooting out the knife rather than shooting Krauser makes no sense.
The remake isn't bad by any means, but I do find the original's story more appealing and captivating.

Considering this is a rescue mission, I wouldn’t want Ashley to wander off picking up ammo. I want her to listen to Leon’s commands and stay nearby where he can watch and protect her. I think they did her AI pretty well. She usually does a good job of staying out of the way, ducking when I am aiming and just staying away from enemies. The castle area is where I had the most trouble with her because enemies were more likely to try carrying her off, but other than that she was a pretty decent escort mission. I would not have minded more sections with her. She even helps out with the lanterns and with boosting her up. I think she did better than most people in that kind of situation. If it were me I’d probably be panicking every 5 minutes.
Also some people don’t like characters pointing out collectibles and want to find them themselves. It can also get annoying if it happens too frequently such as Donald and Goofy in KH3.

In my opinion, they turned the mid story of the original, to a fantastic one in the remake. The characters are all great. It feels like we're up against an actual cult. May be my favorite RE story.

Meh didn't really like the neutering of Leon, he felt so green in cutescenes like it was his first mission and the fact that krowser spent the whole game calling him rookie instead of them having the ex partner relationship didn't help, Ashley was obviously better and I enjoyed her relationship with Leon for the most part, fel like adaa and Leon not having the whole flirting thing going on kind of killed her involvement in the game as that's all she really had plus kind of made her seem less in control so I never really got the vibe she was actually doing anything in the background just following behind waiting for us to get everything done, luis I'm mixed on, I like that he gets more too do and honestly his character fits more of a nerdy scientist trying to be cool this time but his relationship with Leon sucks, I suppose this is more another problem I have with Leon but I hate that they never really become friends even though he's in the story way longer, Leon lighting his smokes before his death felt so holo when the whole game we was just bitching at him, sadlor was great love that he's treated like more of a threat, salazar not so much, him not having a back and forth with Leon kind of made me completely forget about him, it felt like he was barely there and just another boss too kill to get to the next area, big cheese basically didn't change so still pretty mid. Overall did enjoy the game and still am but not looking forward to see this Leon get carried through to later games

Story telling in remake is kind of silly: in the very first beginning, a random room in a random house, contains everything Leon needs to find hostage, even a big red cross on map, brainslug really made villagers into unprofessional kidnappers... In original game, Leon has to seek files from different locations along the way to put information together. It's lazy and dumbed down. Also, too much objects in game cells, but player can't interacts with vast majority of them, they're messy. What's the deal with those "fake" barrels?

I dunno it almost kinda seems like game companies are extending their advertising by releasing content weeks or even months apart from the release of the main game. It would make sense because the more people are interacting about the game whether positive or negative still feeds into more people finding out about the game in question and then potentially buying it for themselves. In other words leaving out content might not be a matter of efficiency in finalizing a product but a convoluted ploy to prolong the games name exposure in mainstream media to
boost sales. Or maybe im just being a conspiracy theorist.

That's how you do escort missions. Ashley wasn't made into a fighting badass for no reason. She's never been trained or had her life in constant danger. She is badass because she rises to the occasion. I think one improvement would be to at least equip her with a knife or two. If she gets grabbed she can stick the guy. Making it even less durable to keep tension up. I'd give her a gun with a quick lesson with instructions to use it only for emergencies. Just some thoughts thoughts, probably wouldn't improve anything

The thing is that Ashely is ironically more annoying in the remake than in OG. In OG sure, she had an annoying voice and that, but in remake the problem is with the commands Stick close or give space. Both are equally terrible and does not work when you are in group situations and are trying to run away, because ashley will get caught. In the Original, there were plenty of boxes/hiding places around, but even then no worries, you could choose to keep ashley in certain areas before you went on to clear whatever was ahead and call her back. And, she didnt used to get caught as much as her AI had a straaight path to rush towards you, making it much easier to run from unfair confrontations.
In the remake it feels like you need to clear every room this time around otherwise Ashley will get caught or die. And including her in set pieces which she wasnt in the original was such a lame and poor choice, I really cannot appreciate the game when I have to escort Ashley. She is a chore this time around.
I guess a thing they missed the mark on from the original. Deffo not how you do escort missions really. Giving her a knife definitely would help, but ultimately the commands are poor this time around.

I really liked what they did with Ashley and Luis in the story, the writing made the most of the time available and the chance to improve. Ada however feels like a step backwards, in the original she couldn't be trusted but she had charisma and seemed to respect Leon. In the remake she does still help Leon at times, but she makes no effort to hide from Leon that she's up to something and acts like he's still enough of a dope to fall for her manipulation again.
