Totally agree.. "I love high quality headphones, a darkly lit room, potent cannabis, and Led Zeppelin." .. (besides the headphones) you capture the scene so perfectly!! :)
Amazing version. Love the Indian vibes. Lady can totally sing...beautiful! Also...Jimmy Page was like: I'm gonna bring out this three necked monster and only play the top mandolin just to show you what toys I've got.
Everytime I'm feeling down because my brother passed away he went to all your concert I grew up listening to him play the drums to this I love this song and the song is stuck in my head. Whenever I'm thinking of my brother I go right to my phone and turn the sun on you guys rock. I'm telling you as matter fact my kids 4237 and 30 even listen to your music. But I love this song so much you don't know how much your songs of help people get through the darkest of times. I love you guys
I wish I would be there.Jimmy Page you are the God of rock history according to me.I am proud of myself cos I met and chat you and Robert Plant,Michael Lee (RİP) after your concert in İSTANBUL in 1998.I keep the record cover (Led Zeppelin 3) which I boughht in İtaly in 1980 and signed all of you.Sorry for poor English.
For those who have an issue with the young lady who sang opposite of plant in this version, one has to remember that it is his song and he and Page are free to experiment with it any way they want. So they put an Indian spin on it; so what? Life would be pretty boring if we all did everything the same every day. I'm glad they took a risk, and I don't find her irritating at all.
OK so we want to split hairs, do we? Yes, she is British, born and raised, but from her own website we learn that . . . "Najma Akhtar, vocalist, composer and actor, has been at the forefront of the World Music scene for the last two decades. Even though born and raised in England and a graduate in Chemical Engineering, Najma has remained rooted in the music of India, he ancestral home . . . Najma has proved to be a successful and versatile artist and is renowned for using modern jazz influences with Indian vocals creating a beautiful fusion of eastern and western styles. Najma always brings her own musical heritage into the spotlight while eliminating all musical boundaries. This led to the release of 7 solo albums and also the opportunity to have artistic collaborations with some of the world’s most influential and credible musicians . . . Although she did not receive formal training in Indian classical music, Najma taught herself the harmoniums, learnt basic vocal technique with Ustad Naeem Solaria and receive guidance from other prominent South Asian classical artists . . . Based in London in the late 1960s, Najma’a father set up a successful printing business that was connected with the Indian Film industry (known presently as Bollywood)." . . . so while she is indeed British, if you don't think the influence of the music of the land of her ancestors is present in that rendition of "Battle of Evermore," then you aren't terribly knowledgeable about either Led Zeppelin or Indan Classical music, and probably both.
I'm incredibly knowledgeable about both. She's doing a sort of free-form fusion based in something kinda sorta Indian, which is fine. I do miss the lovely lyrics. People often think kashmir is somehow 'based on indian music' which it's not, says the person who's lived in india 12 years and studied its classical music
My favorite of favorites. Everytime I hear this song I think of my brother he passed away due to alcoholism. Play the song on his drums. He grew up with you guys. You bring back the good memories thank you so much and I love your songs.
Watching the "Unledded" Page/Plant special when it aired was a downright mystical experience. From the opening notes of "No Quarter", with just the two of them on the hillside, it was amazing to hear the songs you knew filtered through different cultural sensibilities by the people who knew them best. I believe Robert and Jimmy opened the ears of some of their fans to different types of music that night that they may not have considered before. And all from a pair that would have done just fine playing the songs in their original form. They took chances, detours, flights of fancy. Bravo.
I agree watched it when it aired and saw them when they toured. I thought the arrangements went right to the root of each track exposing Zep as the Godfathers of World music. You could always hear the middle eastern and Celtic influences on Zep III,IV,Physical Graffiti and Presence but hearing it with these arrangements took it to another level one of the best concerts I've ever seen still talk about it to this day
She is so awesome!!! Really adds something to this song. I am a Page fan but I have to admire Robert Plant's ability to keep up and use all of his vocal abilities and timing. Awesome on all of their parts!!!
Najma voice held up to the demands of this tune, yes I realize she did not repeat all the lyrics word for word, it was her 'wailing' that send the same chills down the back as the original, her voice fits right in with this version, no need to compare it to the Sandy Denny original. If you don't care for it then search for the original and listen to that over and over.
MAN! This is awesome.... every drumbeat, strike of a string, turn of a handle, change of pitch in a voice....combination of vocal sounds.... WOW!!!!! #playonrepeat

She is amazing and accents the song so perfect. Just like the black lady singing give me shelter with the rolling Stones. That's awesome music all working together to create something beautiful 🤟🤟
Typical Page and Plant experimentation, I always loved the eastern influences they brought to their music. And here the sublime and beautiful Najma Akhtar makes the song her own. It would have been impossible to mimic the Sandy Denny parts. Wonderful innovation!
I saw PAGE/PLANT Friday June 9th 1995 in Marseille and Saturday november 28th 1998 in Toulon - France! Two days will remains in my memory forever! It was the first time they came in France since 1973! Now i can to die!
