Cajun seasoning is a literal cheat code with fries. Piri piri salt is also much better than just regular salt. Get down to your local Lidl and buy these two seasonings and combine them on your home fries. You'll be blown away. Oh, add some black pepper too for extra spice
Taco Bell manager here, it’s essentially taco seasoning but with a little cheddar flavoring added. It comes on our truck in prebagged portions, made by Taco Bell. I believe you could make something very similar at home with the ingredients I’ve just given you

I actually work at five guys, and our process is pretty cool. We fresh cut the fries, and keep them in cold water. When we fry, we use peanut oil and do what’s called a precook. That makes the fry soft but firm. Then when an order comes in, we fry a second time. With the Cajun, my boss always told me “Cover them with enough Cajun, that they are like Dorito chip.” Also for the people that order online and ahead, the reason why we drop the fry’s when the customer arrives is so that when you do get there, you get freshly out of the fryer fries. Not fries that have sat in a bag and become limp and soggy. I’ve had customers yell and complain why their fries are immediately ready as soon as they get there, and that’s the reason. (I once had a lady threaten to call the higher ups on me, because her fries weren’t done as soon as she was there) (Also other note, we put so many fries in there because in our training, the owner said that when we add more, “it makes the customer feel like they are getting a good deal”
The fries should not be firm after a pre-cook. They should be soft, dull, and limp after they have cooled for at least 2 1/2 minutes. After the final cook the fry should have a “firm” exterior with a “mashed potato creamy” interior.

You forgot Guthrie’s (Tampa has them). They are the direct competitor to Zaxby’s and the most comparable as they both give a side of slaw and toast with their chicken finger boxes and have very similar sauces. In fact… Zaxby’s founder based his business off of Guthrie’s when he was attending college in GA; and Guthrie’s is still the smaller chain of the two despite it being much older than Zaxby’s. While not a massive difference between the two, Guthrie’s is definitely better imo, even on a bad day. Guthrie’s did for a while (way back in my teens when I worked there), put a crap ton of MSG in their recipes; and it was to the point I recall being directly instructed to just “dump that shit til my heart is content”, lmao. That stuff was addictive to say the least, and made you thirsty af; but could give headaches out the wazoo if you ate it too much/often for some people. Also for those who might be readying an MSG rebuttal: Yes, I’m aware that MSG migraine/headache myth was largely debunked, but it’s the amount that they used back then that was the true culprit. Any kind of massive change like that would cause electrolyte imbalances; so it wasn’t so much the MSG as the amount of it being introduced that caused the cranial pressure issue for some people. Anyways, Guthrie’s current fries (crinkle as well) are still better than Zaxby’s to me at least. The seasoning/quality&texture of the potato is just simply better there, idk why exactly, but it is. My problem with Five Guys' fries is that they taste like potatoes, and that's gross. The whole point of fries is to mask the taste of the potatoes by cutting them thin and covering them in grease and salt.

I feel like a lot of people don’t know this, if you order food from delivery apps (assuming they did bc someone in the background mentioned “before tip”) they hike up the price 10-30%, usually depending on how much said delivery app charges them commission. So going to a restaurant versus app pickup versus app delivery always has a commensurate rise in price. Try ordering food on chipotle for pick up. Then switch it delivery; they use Doordash to deliver. Doordash isn’t charging you $20-40 in delivery fees. The restaurant is charging you increased prices per item to make up for lost income due to Doordash taking 20% of the sale. This whole thing is in reference to the five guys fries thing. I’m to lazy to do my own research but I’m certain the price in restaurant is no where even close to $10 for a large lmao

I worked at 5 guys for like a year and to this day they're probably my favorite fries, regular or cajun, we'd fry them in peanut oil for a minute or so, shake the oil out for about 10 seconds, then fry them again for another 30 seconds to a minute then dump them into big colinders and just put hella seasoning on them, but still i haven't eaten there since quitting because it's so expensive lol

I understand that peanut allergies exist but damn peanut oil fries are just sooooo much better than canola/vegetable oil fries. Not even comparable. The only other fry that can stack up are fries made in animal fat -- tallow, bacon grease, duck fat, etc.
My problem with Five Guys' fries is that they taste like potatoes, and that's gross. The whole point of fries is to mask the taste of the potatoes by cutting them thin and covering them in grease and salt.
@Eyedunno I would agree with you but their whole thing is kinda having that thick mushy potato like inside with a barely crispy outside, although if they were thin cut I do think it'd taste way better

I feel like a lot of people don’t know this, if you order food from delivery apps (assuming they did bc someone in the background mentioned “before tip”) they hike up the price 10-30%, usually depending on how much said delivery app charges them commission. So going to a restaurant versus app pickup versus app delivery always has a commensurate rise in price. Try ordering food on chipotle for pick up. Then switch it delivery; they use Doordash to deliver. Doordash isn’t charging you $20-40 in delivery fees. The restaurant is charging you increased prices per item to make up for lost income due to Doordash taking 20% of the sale. This whole thing is in reference to the five guys fries thing. I’m to lazy to do my own research but I’m certain the price in restaurant is no where even close to $10 for a large lmao

Sometimes ordering on the app is cheaper, because i of discount that is not available on the restaurant themself, but just on the app. But that's how they get you, foot in the door thing.
Yup, and good luck getting refunds/redeliveries if using door dash, or another 3rd party deliverer, doesn't bring you the full order. Talking to their complaints department is more stressful than anything has the right to be.

I will die on the Wingstop fry hill. The problem is that they’re hit or miss, so you will either get the best fry of your life or you’ll get a melted cesspool of oil. Plus you can get Parmesan cheese on top 👌
