- This Video was shot May 22, 2014 15:25 / 3:15 pm the 1,013 foot Paul R.Tregurtha "Queen of the Lakes" Duluth Port Entry Largest Great Lakes Ship. Entry to port to load coal from Wyoming delivered to Duluth by Union Pacific RailRoad. The Tregurtha can hold 5 miles of railroad cars loaded with coal! This ship can upload with its loop elevator 6,000 tons of coal and hour once it has reached it destination. Total payload of 62,000 tons of coal.

I wonder what kind of bow thrusters this ship has? Maybe has a Evinrude 150 hp long shaft bolted on the side of the bow?
I'm running 17,500 horse air to air after cooling, bow and stern thrusters each 3,000 pounds per square of thrust.

fklotaloi I would say yes, but ocean waves and lake waves are slightly different in frequency. Most Ocean ships wouldn’t be able to handle waves of the Great Lakes that the freighters push through with ease. Likewise for the freighters being able to handle ocean waves. In terms of sheer height and violence though, the Great Lakes can be worse than the oceans, so I’d say that if properly built to handle the frequencies of both ocean and lake waves, then lake freighters would be perfectly fine on the oceans. The Great Lakes are a great testing ground for ensuring the sturdiness and flexibility of a ship.
