That particular hawker centre has two sections; Halal and Non-Halal. Spending a month in George Town last year researching street food as intangible cultural heritage... a wonderful time. Went in expecting to be eating CKT & Asam laksa; sure, did that, but heaps and heaps on wanton mee! Surprise go-to! Due for a revisit in February next year!
It's amazing to see how both of you handled the chilli and the spicy sauce for the kuey teow soup. And I'm happy to see how you guys savouring Malaysian food like locals. Come stay in Malaysia!
Gurney food court....my go to is the duck egg char koay teow and that deep fried all seafood with vege in peanut sauce called 'pasembor'. Then it's oyster egg omelette and my kids' bags of chicken 'backside' 🤣. Bishop's nose. That 3rd floor food court at Gurney Plaza is my favourite shopping mall food court in all of Penang.
7:52 Famous Amos is an American brand! Amos is pronounced like "famous" without the "f" (so like, the brand name is a rhyme). It's a very southern American name.
In hawker centres, food courts, and kopitiams, the tables and chairs are typically owned by the beverage vendors, which can be more complicated in hawker centres due to many beverage sellers, each managing their own designated area. Customers are generally expected to order at least one drink if they choose to sit down and eat, especially in tourist-heavy areas. Unfortunately, many of the workers are foreign staff, and there may be challenges in clearly communicating this to customers. A better solution would be to select your drink first, as the beverage vendors manage the seating. Once the drink order is made, food can then be delivered to your table from any of the food vendors.
There is the Gurney bay park by the sea a bit more in front from the Gurney plaza along with Gurney paragon mall and a nice church of immaculate conception
You cant go wrong with any food in Penang, especially Malaysian-Chinese food considering how competitive the food scene there is. Edit: That Malay gearbox is awesome.
The classic OLD GREEN HOUSE. for hawker stalls food too. The prawn mee 🍤 is also highly recommended. Got a Michelin star ⭐️ too I think.😃 Then there another stall here with steam chicken which is so so good. Go for dinner.
AWw you guys sat at the drink vendor’s table but you came with your own drink. That’s why he was angry. You need ti buy a ddink when you sit down. They prob get tired of ignorant tourists who don’t understand the system 😂
er dont ask for pork products from muslim stalls, Miss Shelby. You guys wandered into the muslim part of the food market and they do versions of Chinese foods like Kway Teow but they would certainly be still Halal
Amazing Malaysian food and cuisine 🇲🇾😋
Dry wanton noodle sauce usually contains dark soy sauce, oyster sauce (optional), pork lard oil, sesame oil, onion oil (optional) and some secret sauce.
I like watching your videos

Next time try apple juice Asam boi... I'm glad that you are looking only for local food instead of western or Arabic food..

35:00 the skinny building you said is actually the first ever 'luxury' apartment building built in 1977, it is called Sunrise Tower.. just info
That 18-storey skinny building you mentioned is known as Sunrise Tower and is the first apartment block in Penang completed in 1977.
Hope that you guys have had a good time at a hawker center in Georgetown.

Wan tan is dumpling, so noodle and dumpling is wantan mee. One of my favourite since childhood
Too heavy
Gotta go to KHENG PIN for the legendary fresh LOBAK. Go just before lunch. Less people. Prawn mee and fried Kway teow is very good too!
The stall behind when you were drinking the nutmeg plum is very good Apom Balik coconut pancake
Cheers Guys. About to head to Penang
This place is for tourist. Super cut throat place and food is so so only
Go to song River cafe at the near end of Gurney beside Marriott residence n try the grill fish, 7pm to 11pm
Should try "breakfast of the God" from serawak
no issue ordering food just like local Malaysian :D~
Actually the oil in wan tan mee is mostly from the pork oil.
Why they look familiar to me 😂
🌹🌹👍
Did you guys went to Cofee 45
Hi guys how are you
13:44 This is the non-halal section (chinese cuisine)
15:42 This is the halal section (malays, indian muslims cuisine)
As a Penangite, I can tell you that we local don't go to Gurney Hawker stall. It's a 3 out 10 at best.
If you like noodles you should try sarawak laksa and kolok mee from Sarawak.

If you are not a Muslim, better opt for non halal version of the hawker food.
Sorry what is happening at Malaysia point of entry
