The rope drop for Rise does save some time, but not worth it for a few reasons. First, you can knock out a lot of other things at rope drop in the time it takes to get through that line. Next (and very unpopular opinion), if you're in that much of a hurry to just get on the ride, pay for lightning lane later in the day. Lastly but most importantly, the wait dies down as the day goes on. Just watching people in this video shuffle right through this queue, you're missing out on a lot of cool things to see rather than actually waiting 45 or 60 minutes and slowly making your way through. Sometimes it's better to take the slow route and soak in the full experience.

I have paid for lightening lane only to have it break down and getting a refund was not easy. It’s a big risk.

Standby always at 60-120 min all day. Plus you risk the ride breaking down, if you rope drop you get it out of the way by 9am and have the rest of the day to do everything else you want to do without risking a 2 hour wait and the ride breaking down while you are waiting in line.

I was at the park on the day this was filmed, and what you said was my experience. I knocked out BTMRR, and most of Fantasyland before 11am. I hopped into the line for Rise at 6:30pm, with a posted 55min wait time, and was in the room with Rey within 30min.

Will you please see my comment above yours, we haven't found this to be true, but we also don't really have the experience. Maybe Indie and Jungle Cruise is worth it vs. Rise due to wait times later in the day.

@@perry3770 I'm more along along with this line ( no pun intended) of thinking, plus Fresh Baked here is also showing how you can also get in a quick Smugglers right afterwards. We think Rise is maybe the best ride in the park, So we can also try to go back later, or even go through twice in the morning.

David. You say it’s a difficult proposition to rope drop Rise, but in this example it worked perfectly. That timeframe was exactly the same as 1980’s Indy rope drop.

Honestly if you can afford it the lightning lane is great. I stood there anxious at rope drop and then said screw it, got a lightning lane for like an hour or so later, went on a ride, ate breakfast and then went on rise with 0 stress

  • @sirbossk

Yeah, I always say no to rope-dropping Rise. While you may save a bit of time on the Rise queue itself, by the time you actually get out of it the other queues in the park will have already started backing up, and now you'll have to wait in considerable lines for ALL of them. But since everyone goes to Rise in the morning, that leaves the rest of the park more empty than usual in that first hour or so. So my strategy is always to rope-drop Space Mountain (which is typically the second ride to start backing up after Rise), then go to Matterhorn, then to BTMR, and all around the park in that direction to knock out as many OTHER things as possible, then go back and do Rise later when the crowds have dispersed a bit. That will save you so much more time in your overall day than Rise will. The only time I would ever rope-drop rise is if you're confident you can be one of those first few-hundred people or so in the swarm, but not even I have it in me to bother waking up THAT early, and even then you're still subject to breakdowns.

One thing I like about staying at the park until rides close is that the Cast Members will sometimes let you go in through the Lightning Lanes without a pass during that last hour. I got lucky this time and managed to get in the LLs for Indy and Space Mountain without a pass. I already had a pass for Haunted Mansion at 11PM, so them doing that let me get on Haunted Mansion,Pirates,Indiana Jones and Space Mountain all in the last hour 💀

I will add the same for DCA and cars. My family rope dropped that one morning and it still took us over an hour and we wasted all that prime morning time for everything else. The wait time was steady throughout the day too so we would have waited just as long any other time. And cars is a 3 mintue ride compared to rise. Live and learn!

I had rope dropped Rise last week for the first time (3rd time riding it) not knowing what I'd get into. I got lucky and was maybe 15-20 ft from the Frontier Land rope. Got back there only for it to not be open so I ended up going to Smuggler's Run instead as I had used the entry behind Big Thunder. After I finished with Smuggler's, I saw that rise had opened with a 35 minute posted wait time. Plot twist - I dang near walked right up to the first pre-show with maybe a minute of stopping toward the end of the queue.

My only experience with it was with us showing up to the park around 9:20-9:30am (thanks wife and 5 year old for dragging butts in the room!!!) and we went directly to Rise figuring it would be our only shot at it, and the wait wasn't bad the outside queue wasn't being used, it did get a lot more densely packed in the mining caves than this video showed, but took about 30 minutes to the shuttle pre-show. Don't think I could have asked for a better time. When we left the outdoor queue space was opened up though, and posted waits was in excess of an hour. Granted this was a weekday in February during the Lunar New Year time our school got the day off on Monday for it but don't think most schools celebrate it so it was a pretty fun outing, by no means were the crowds low though.

I just went on it for the first time with my wife this morning. We got into the park at around 7:50am, and didn't need to wait long before the crowd was let in to the lands.
I remembered at the last minute to take the Frontierland route, rather than Adventureland, since the queue stretches in that direction.
We got in line at 8:05am, and by the time we were in the ride car, it was 8:50am. However, there is a lot to look at, there are "shows", and so much more than most queues, so while it took 45 minutes to start the main event, I'd say it was more like 15 minutes of waiting outside in line before it was quite a pleasure.
***Around **10:30**-11am, Rise was "temporarily closed" so I'm really glad we hit it first thing. I heard it closes often, due to being so technically advanced***
Immediately after, we did Haunted Mansion, which had a 13 minute posted wait time, and then Pirates, which had a 10 minute wait time.
Indy would have been next, except it said 35 minutes, and my wife didn't wear comfortable shoes, so we went home.
It's so convenient that those 4 attractions are right next to each other. It's pretty rapid fire between 8-10am.

One thing to keep in mind is that this ride has a long path for the queue and they don't start letting people in right away. So when they do let people in you can get pretty far into the path. We took the Adventureland route (didn't know better) and got in line before they opened the ride. We ended up walking non-stop all of the way to where you got to in the cave. Overall it was a 35 minute wait for us which was worth it as we never saw wait times less that 55 minutes over 4 days.

I could already tell by seeing the time you boarded the tram, it wasn't gonna turn out well for you. I've rope dropped Rise several times where I'm in security by 7am, at the turnstiles by 7:30am, and am at most, 4 rows from the actual left side of the Frontierland rope. It's not enough to be in the park at the back of the pack and "rope drop". You literally need to be near enough to the rope that could almost touch it. Anything less than that and you're better off rope dropping Indy. Whenever I've roped dropped Rise, I'm in the Rey room by 8:10 and I'm off the attraction by 8:25am. You're right though, it's a gamble in the sense that you just don't know if the attraction will be open or not first thing in the morning.

As much as I was adverse about spending $25/person to do the Lightning Lane, I feel it was worth it to avoid the MASSIVE line for this ride. Was it worth an extra $25/person? No, not in my opinion. However, I have not been on before, there were a few others in my party, and we only come once every several years. So, in that way, it's worth it. I waited until the evening, and I waited 10 or 15 min, instead of over an hour.

I'd sooner rope drop Peter Pan's flight (as you did during magic hours) or Haunted Mansion Holiday. Between Genie+ ILL and the fact that the RISE queue has been around 45-60 mins many days, at this point I think there are better rides to rope drop.

We do rope drop everytime and ALWAYS get to the ride within 4 min and get right on the ride. My 17 yr old son has been 1st in line many times. He has mastered the art of speed walking 😂
We go to the ADVENTURE LAND area right by The Jolly Holiday Cafe. We are always there close to the front of ROPE or maybe 10 people back in the group, and not behind everyone in that huge crowd. So that does help a lot. Yes rope drop is only worth it if you get there early enough to be up close to the front.
We walk to the park and are in the security line 7am.
And yes we do run/walk or walk REALLY fast once it hits 8am!
    Happy Disney Days!

I was there Monday morning and went straight to Rise, which was probably about 10 min after rope drop, and waited max 30 min, which was super worth it for me, because I wanted to ride it twice (once stand-by and once LL). This was my first time seeing Galaxy’s Edge, I absolutely loved it

FreshBaked. David, These early morning starts are no good for my constitution. Did I miss it was there some effects not working. Or was I just thinking it? You'd think after all this time all the problems with this ride would be fixed on both coasts by now. There has to be some common problem.. To keep the ride going down all the time. Cheers, Chris Perry.

Interesting! And useful. I’ve only ever seen the Rise line go back toward Critter Country, but never done rope drop for it. If I were trying this, and may try soon, I would’ve definitely made a sad mistake… Tx David!
A thought, not sure whether you’ve done a vlog on the effect of having EVERY day be a Magic Morning. Afraid they’ve ruined all my carefully-laid (many years-long) plans for us normal folk, i.e. across the street flying-in folk, to avoid Magic Morning at all costs. Seems like rope drop has lost some overall magic tbh.

The last two times I've been to the parks, Rise has broken down shortly after park opening. It isn't worth it to waste that precious first hour or two risking it for a ride that may break down when you can do walk-ons for like 4 or 5 other major attractions. Do Space instead, or Indy, Pirates , Haunted Mansion and Splash in that same time, and save Rise for later in the day.

I have only done 4 days in the park in recent history, but I don't think that was true for us. Space Mountain took us a similar amount of time, and Indiana Jones and Jungle Cruise, was similar as was Pirates and Haunted, are we doing something wrong?

Seems like there is zero reason to rope drop Rise. At 8:12am I would already be riding Space Mountain and getting back in line for it. Rise seems better to hit up at 9am or 6pm when the wait is something like 45 mins. The queue is actually quite nice and entertaining once you get into the "underground" structure.

Been on this ride 4 times. Been in line 12 times. Why? After an hour in line ride has broken down 8 of 12 times. When this rise breaks down it breaks does for a long time, typically 30-60 minutes or more. Not worth sitting in line.
