No prep died as soon as you HAD to have the Maclan Dark esc and super crazy sauce for the tires with complicated battery precharging process...
it was fun when 3 people could open the box and give it a rip...
race in parking lot at lunch break.

Yep. IMO it should have been opened up to 3 and 4S and it would have reduced the crazy current draw demands on the ESC.

My most expensive rc purchase is definitely building a custom tig welded ti rock crawler buggy. I agree with Josh when you said in a previous show about building your own s far more expensive. Once you factor in the design, engineering, tube bending, prepping and notching all the tubes, building and tapping all the tabs, making it symmetrical and look good all with draconian methods, it definitely takes a long ass time. There was no cad or jigs used, just a lot of math, drawings patience and time. A lot of thinking and a little luck but way happy with how it turned out and how it performs. Totally worth it

The Bill is a red flag given its a pre-cursor to future bills on the matter.
All it’s doing is beating to market 3D printer specialized firearm machines.
The only problem? A dedicated 3D printer for firearms is impractical to be specialized from a market standpoint.
Eventually they’ll figure this out and expand the law into *all* 3D printers.
Sure, throw in the slippery slope fallacy, but just remember that basically all 3D printed firearms are made with just a conventional 3D printer. No specialized gun printer even exists for the public market, because up till now it isn’t needed.
I’m really against early versions of these bills because 90% of my vehicles are 3D printed.

Most expensive one time drop for me is a Tamiya Grand Hauler. Its been a years long project but its a fun truck to look at and is getting me out of my comfort zone with the model building aspects of it.
Luckily I got out of no-prep just as fast as I got in as the local scene was waaaay to competitive (read expensive) for it to be fun. I do still have an 18th scale Losi drag car on my desk at work. Its fun to look at and maybe one of these days I'll even power it up.

  • @madanotsob

I bought the losi drag car when it was on clearance. I ran it twice and can never get it to run straight. I knew there were things I could do to get it to run straight, but I was not interested in learning any of it so I can verted it into a short course truck

Really like the look and idea of the Element 12th scale, need to give them a shot.
Most expensive at once was a $900 Tekno basher with M2C upgrades, but I know that doesn't hold a candle to some of the LE Vanquish buys. I prefer having many rigs with spread out cost 😂

Brand new dr10 kit. Painted a c10 body for it that changes colors. It had a mamba x briefly but that went to a crawler project. I did one burn out on my shop floor. It looks good and is now shop art lol. Most expensive if that includes all its different stages over 18yrs my og scx10. Started as a new ax-10 artr. When the honcho came out I bought a chassis on eBay and $3500ish it’s now a Rc4wd k5 modeled after my 79 K5 on 1tons and 39.5/16.5/16 pitbull rockers I had back then. My son grew up (22 now) with that truck, caught his rc building and comping addiction from that truck and will inherited that truck.

Still only running 3s which is plenty for me still. Of and throw in a new set of tires after putting about 8 batteries through it. Can only imagine 6s, I was thinking 6s this summer. The answer to this week's question is (sorta-kinda) 3-fold. First, the most expensive that I've already purchased (but have not yet received) would be the VESLA.5 C1E SBK ($850), from Kraken RC. This is the soon-to-be-released (ie. shipping towards the end of April) kit version (no electronics) of their C1E RTR (the RTR is closer to $2K), which is a clone (albeit, much higher quality) of the HPI Baja 5B, with a better cage & body. Even though I do have an XMAXX, I purchased it as a roller ($350) from an RC chop-shop, so it doesn't count. Next up is the most expensive that I'm about to purchase - the DTT-7 V2 (a $1.1K clone of the Losi 5ive-T), from 30 Degree North. The only decision left with this one is whether to leave it gas...or, to install the electric conversion. Finally, there's the most expensive (of the three, it's the MOST expensive), which I'll be ordering in several months - the Smithmaster/RCMK SCR Max ($2.6K). All 3 do have one major thing in common - ALL 3 are 1/5 scale.

Like many others, my most expensive RC purchase is my SCX6. I got a killer deal on it. I paid 600 buck for it. It was only ran twice and ond of those was in the hobby shop parking lot. The said it was to big to carry. And the most expensive RC item is probably a tie between a Fusion Pro and a Raw 500.

Someone somewhere simply has too much free time they have to justify based solely on silly laws being proposed and passed. For instance I now have to attach a remote ID device to any of my flying toys over 1/2 pound in the interest of national security ..🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

1 front 1 rear Vanquish F-10 portal aluminium housings with every item to make them run, ended up around 1000$ with freight, taxes and import tax. That’s my most expensive single purchase

I think the most expensive single RC purchase would have to be the vs4-10 ultra but I have a few custom builds like my Gspeed 6x6 that totaling everything into them are double that if not more.

I love the no prep side of rc. Drag racing has always been more of an interest to me than rock crawling. But, it never took off here in Kentucky. Well, my local area anyways. No tracks, no races. I just spent 2k to test and tune all the time 😂. Rock crawling is just more convenient. You can do it anywhere and don't need a crowd to enjoy.
My biggest rc purchase at one time would be the SCX6.

Expensive can be measured a few different ways. My Sakura Sport is by far the most expensive build (but for GT2 racing) given I haven't run it. My Grasshopper mod build is the silliest wasted money build (moded chassis to fit a 3S bat, 13T brushless motor, etc). But by far, my T-Maxx 3.3 is outright my most expensive vehicle and the most expensive to run (hence it's now a shelf queen).

I have 6 Drag Cars. The LOSI 22S 1969 Camaro, VRX-Racing Blitz Drag Car, Team Associated DR10, and a Rat Rod Trophy Truck and SR10 both converted into Drag Cars since all 3 of them use 90% of the exact same parts adding a Wheelie Bar to them.
Then there is the Traxxas 1967 Chevrolet C10 Drag Slash and it is the most expensive RC Car I have since I could not buy one from any RC Hobby seller in the US. Every single one I tried to order from would not sell me one since its like Traxxas has imposed some restrictions on them from exporting any of their products to where I live in Australia.
I could not even get replacement screws for it if they have the Traxxas brand label on them let alone actual parts if something breaks. I had to go through a seller on eBay to get the Drag Slash and it ended up costing me a lot more than my Arrma Infraction.
No wonder some people call them Traxxsux, Traxxass, or Traxxarse and I would completely agree with them.
