I can totally picture making about two of these and then having 12 folios, one for each month of baby's first year of highlights. It would be the perfect gift for a new parent, now I just need to find somebody to have a baby so I can make it.
This would be so great for all you moms who are having little ones starting Kindergarten this year.... then you could do a holder with K-- 12 grades of school photos !!! Then you could decorate the holder in a school theme....

Definitely NOT cheating. Dies vs fussy cutting is not cheating. It makes it faster and more efficient so you can craft more. Work smarter not harder. 😉

Personally, I prefer to make things from scratch, but I have a lot of time available to do that. I don't see anything wrong with doing any kind of crafting the way that you want to do it. There is no "cheating", either way.

Crafting is supposed to bring you joy. If there are parts that either you don't enjoy making or you can purchase to get a jump start and get to the part you do enjoy is perfectly OK. You're still creating and bringing joy to yourself and any recipients who are lucky enough to receive something special and handmade. No matter how much is handmade you've still put your heart and joy into it!! *)

The joy of crafting is there is a technic for everyone. So if you prefer ready made albums, they are available, if you love the process of creating your own, do it. For me I have done both, but like you Maymay, my life is so busy that today it is amazing to have the ready made options so that I can just enjoy the process of decorating. I think the reason it feels like its cheating is because we are so use to from scratch, I can see why crafters feel that way! The knowledge that we took a plain piece of paper/fabric/clay or what have you, and turned it into something amazing it is a source of pride! I can say this about the pre made bases if we would think of it as a mug that we are decorating with vinyl or sublimation, we don’t make those typically and that isn’t considered cheating! Do what makes you feel happy though! I would love to see you decorate the storage box Maymay!

I love making my items from scratch & being retired have plenty of time to do it but NO! I don't feel it is cheating to use pre-made items to cut down crafting time. It is just as fun. Sometimes it's nice having someone else do it
Oh! I don't think it is cheating to use some pre-made pieces! I like being able to just jump to the creative part of the process and not spend a lot of my time and effort on doing basic, repetitive stuff. My health is somewhat iffy from day to day and I want to use the time that I feel well enough to craft on the creative process. It is why I have a Cricut and I use it as opposed to fussy cutting or hand cutting all my pieces. I well remember the early days of scrapbooking and cardmaking when there were little to no premade pieces and all of the elements had to be made by me. Today, I truly enjoy stickers, die-cuts, brads, borders, papers, etc. Now I can just gather my elements and let the creative juices flow!

There are many crafts I would have never tried if I had not “cheated “ with some kind of partially prepared kit first. Having some of the more intricate parts already cut or measured allowed me to gain a bit of confidence first. Often after I have made the cheater version, I will feel more competent and will use what I learned to make “my own”. Best of both worlds!
Crafting is a personal thing. If others think it is cheating, that's their personal preference. However you do it is your personal preference. No one has a right to expect you to feel the same way they do about it. Also, I would love to see how you decorate these.
I think everyone should do what will bring them joy. If using premade items helps people create and get projects done then they should do that. I like to create from scratch most of the time. Using premade items can be very challenging for me because I like to keep modifying/stepping up my creation.

I do think it is comparable to an artist that stretches and creates their own canvas compared to an artist who buys one ready made. I believe both are wonderful. Some artist just don't want to spend the precious time creating a canvas while others feel that is part of the process. I just appreciate you creating with us so we can all enjoy it.

Making 6-12 folios in baby theme then putting them into the holder and giving as a baby gift would be perfect!
