I don't know how to say this without insulting someone but, after watching some other LockedOn Big 12 podcasts, you two are signifigantly more professional, informed, and measured than the other guys. High quality work from you two. Kudos. Also, I had the privilege of hearing Casey in-stadium, velvety smooth.
@@russellriggan2088 That's my understanding. Simply thought the other guys were similar, though they seem to be primarily online pundits raised on PTI.
Portal class is worthy of praise and expectations, but off-season is when everyone is projected to be healthy and at their best. All that said, the 'I Will' swagger, and coveted coordinators incoming have to lead you to that full pitcher of Kool-Aid. The 2 deep looks as good as it has been since peak Leach years.
The bowl game sort of summarized the 2024 season. I hope the new players from the portal fix the problems! We need to escape the old mentality and expect to win all of the time.
One issue that has not been brought up with NIL is the income tax side of it, specifically state income tax. I’m not a tax expert, but my understanding of NFL players is that regardless of their home team’s location they are subject to state income tax in the states they play games in. How much more do you think Tech might be more attractive economically for a player vs a university located in a state that has a state tax?
Some nil complications , Somewhere I saw that when pro players have a game in say California they have to pay a pro rated income tax to Cal.. Also it may be unconstitutional to cap what players can make but the ncaa can have a pro type cap system in effect controlling nil salaries.
It’s going to be year 4, a massive investment was made in the portal , the hs recruits that Joey acquired over the last few years should be mature, you’ve adjusted the assistant coaches, you’ve completed the best facilities in the country, and you’ll have a relatively easy schedule. It’s time to put up or this whole thing has been a massive waste, literally hundreds of millions of dollars. Texas Tech needs to make the Big 12 championship game and contend for the playoff at the minimum in 2025.
We have seen it. Some guys take 2 years to hit(Tyree Wilson) and others just have a season and bomb(Steve Linton). But then you get a Josh Kelly who was essentially can't miss. Sure looks like they have added 4-5 of those guys like Kelly who can't miss.
@@josephterrell2835 you have to go portal if your development of players is lacking. The majority of portal guys have to hit. The secondary was horrendous.
I get what you’re saying, in terms of the conference changing around Texas Tech and therefore us being at the top maybe be more indicative of the fact that our neighbors have changed and not necessarily Texas Tech stature. I would like to say though, I believe two things can be true at once. 1 - Texas Tech lives in a poorer neighborhood than we used to. 2 - Texas Tech moved into a nicer house. We may not have the relevance that we did in the early 2000s in terms of top of mine simply because our football success doesn’t stack up to that era, but our resources and stature as a university have gone from top 45 to almost cracking the top 30. I do believe we are growing at a clip faster than the average university in the NCAA. Therefore, we are relatively better off than ever.
Here's my take on all things football. Coach McGuire & staff @ recruiting = A+, Coach McGuire & staff @ late season performance = A, Coach McGuire & staff @ having the team ready coming out of summer practice and early season performance = D or even D-. My hope for '25 "is that the light bulb goes off for the players and staff to understand that you'll never achieve your goals of a conference championship and playoff berth losing an early season game to a North Carolina State, Wyoming, or Washington State." A program cannot be viewed as "legit" when they NEVER make it through September without a loss. Grandpa always said, " When you shoot yourself in the foot, you'll ALWAYS limp home." Sooo, losing early and struggling to win on the road have to be conquered in the spring and summer! Here's to making the nation realize "It's a GUNS UP WORLD" in 2025!!!

The professionialism comes from their years in radio, so they really are pros.

It seemed to me we did better in the portal than we've done in recruiting HS kids.
recruiting 17 years olds versus plucking proven 21-year-olds... not hard to see why portal kids hit at higher rate.
Most valuable Big 12 team and most valuable locked on podcasters.

Let's be honest Casey. Chris isn't the only professional on your show. He may just be the "most" professional. :) Guns UP!

People are going to learn the Hard Way, that YOU STILL have to Develop these players into your system, which includes culture & process.

@ yeah I agree, to me the portal is more important. They have a body if work. High school recruiting is more speculative.
I would have thought BYU would be at the top of the valuation list.

Well said, I agree. Tech's continued build has coincided w/ the neighborhood going the other way. Thanks for watching! #GunsUp
Doesn’t Toppin have more eligibility than this year or are you just assuming he’ll go pro after the season?
Never have I wished more that I was paying for Matador Mob…. CARSON BECK?!?!?! Are we hunting for a starting QB!?
Any idea what's going on with this interest from Carson Beck? Is there something going on with Behren or Will? Why would we want Carson?
Because Beck is 8th ranked QB in the country in ESPN QBR. Morton is 75th. Even with all that talent around him you can’t win big with a QB that bad.
Big 12 championship or bust. The investment has been made now it’s time for results.
B12 Championship 🏆 or bust type of year ?

Hell yes they are. They bought an elite roster. If he doesn’t win the big12 and compete in the playoffs he’s a failure.
