Enjoyed the video on the seat pan. I have been looking but not found any other info on modifying the frame for a proper cafe seat. I did however see when the frame was cut and welded in the seat area but that did not flatten the angle of the rear frame section.
Noticed in one video that you had a piece of wood under the seat pan to level things out. How well does that work? Do you have any pics or another video showing the seat installation?

The frame does still have a slight angle much less then what it was though. I wanted that angle. You could cut out a larger section of frame and weld in a more flat bar. As for the wood that was there when i first bought the bike. it helped level out the frame a little and also held some electronics on the underside. It worked well I just found it to be an eye sore. Im doing away with it and putting the pan straight on the frame and when I make the seat pad that when ill make the straight line. Now I am making more of a brat style seat, so another option if you did a cafe seat pan would be to let the cowl of the pan cover the part of the frame that angles up.
I'll will have a video soon where I finish the seat and install it.
What kind of bike do you have?

Thanks for the detailed reply. I'm interested in this series because I have a 1980 KZ250. Mine is the D Model and it has an 8 liter tank. Your tank appears much larger than mine. So far I have added the clubman bars, new mirrors and a pod filter. Had to get a jet kit to make the pod filter work. It runs pretty good now and If I am having any trouble it is with the stock pilot system. Seems to run its worst at o-1/4 throttle. Is a fun little bike for back roads and 30-40mph speed limits. Looking forward to any additions to this series

What thickness of metal should you use for the seat pan?

Any thin gauge sheet metal. If you want to save money try and find an old "for sale" sign. The metal kind you you find at a house or commercial property. Dont steal one but if you see one in the trash or something.

What is the size of metallic plate? Is it 2mm or 4mm

Not entirely sure... its the thinnest sheet i could buy from home depot. I had bought it a while back for a different project. If I had to guess id say its much closer to 2mm. its thinner than the metal used for the "for sale" signs at houses

In the 1970's we found that STOP signs made the best seat pans for our crappy Sportsters and British twins. I'm old as sh*t.

Age is just a mindset friend! Signs like that are common I find. Here in Tulsa a lot of people will use old "for sale/rent" signs.

@@TulsaMotoClub I was joking. I've been riding since 1975 and still do every day. Euro and American twins. Tulsa, great town. Cherokee nation and Cookson Hills, great roads and history.
