i realized one thing while watching your reaction. Because of BTS many groups started debuting with their own storyline, BTS made that popular. Bang PD has always been a very creative director so BTS could've had the storyline since the beginning, so why wait till 2015 to start it? I think, even if not intentional, it was truly smart because it's like Bang PD/BigHit observed and talked with the members directly so they could create this story, which happened after BTS already had their own dynamic, had been living together for years, knew each other well. The BTS Universe fits them SO well, it looks SO genuine and easy to get attached to, and i think that's what other groups don't do right, it's why no other storyline in kpop made as many noise as BTS's.
yes exactly. the reason why bts universe works so well is because it's very grounded in reality first and foremost which makes it relatable and then the added fantasy element to it adds for a more complicated and interesting fictional storyline. It also works so well because each "character" they play in the universe feels like its derived from the actual members themselves and it fits so well for them as individuals. Without giving too much spoilers, for example jungkook always looking up to and needing his hyungs (begin), suga's deep love for music/piano (first love), hobi's love for his mother (MAMA), jimin's early era troubles where he felt he couldn't be himself (Lie), Namjoon's struggles with his past mistakes (Reflection), Jin always looking after the members as the oldest (awake + overall storyline) while V's stigma is still unknown to exactly what its about, I'm sure it's connected in some way since all the songs were written based on their REAL lives rather than the fictional storyline. All the members have some elements of their characters directly derived from the members themselves with fictional elements added to it. With the addition of REAL struggles that people go through in the overall storyline, it makes it all that much more compelling. While most kpop groups who tried to go the route of storylines were TOO fictional in the sense that while the story itself might be good, there are barely any elements of reality attached to it which makes it harder for it to be relatable or feel attached to the characters they are playing which is why i think the Bangtan Universe is IMO the best storyline in kpop.

Hello, according to the MV, Weebtoon of SAVE ME from the BTS universe and the theories, the 7 boys are friends, some more friends of others but in a group they are always happy because somehow they protect and help each other.
So Jin, as the eldest, must separate from the group of friends to go to university or something like that, they don't see each other anymore and since then the other 6 members begin to have problems of various kinds:
1.- Jungkook is adopted but he doesn't feel happy with his new family, there is no paternal love for him so he relies on his friend Suga with whom he is closest.
2.-Suga loses his mother in a fire, that's why there is always fire, after his mother's death he becomes distant from his friends and Jungkook.
3.- Tae, for his part, lives with an alcoholic and abusive father who beat him and his sister, exhausted from this mistreatment, he defends his sister and what is seen in the video happens. Whenever he felt bad or wanted to escape from home, he would go with Nam and Nam would make him forget his sadness.
4.- Nam for his part runs away from home and has to survive alone with jobs like the gas station, something happens with which he ends up separating from Tae.
5.- Jimin's parents took him away from his friends, Jimin had depression and was admitted to a hospital.
6.- Hobi for his part suffered from Narcolepsy (falling asleep suddenly, that's why he fainted on the bridge), in the hospital he meets Jimin.
7.- When Jin returns from university or school, he realizes that his friends were not like before, he sees his friends plunge into misery and end in the most tragic way according to various theories: Tae for being imprisoned for killing to his father, Jungkook in the hospital after being beaten by bullies and being run over in the street, it is suggested that Jimin commits suicide by drowning in the bathtub, and Suga by fire, J hope developing some disorder from his past trauma , RM I think also ended up in jail.
The point here is that Jin returns and within this universe he finds a way to travel in dimensions to change this tragic moment, many videos that are connected come from there.

That so beautifullly describes both songs and how they relate to eachother and it shows that in most things in life nothing is one sided, titally bad or good.... everytthing has it's light side and it's dark.
The managing of the emotions we go through in life, dealing with the good and the bad parts of everything is what we struggle with but eventually learn to cope with as we get older.
My youth was so painful because I could not tolerate the darkness I encountered so it threatened to envelop me because I didn't know how to use the good/the light to buffer the effects of the bad things/ the dark. We walk that wire all our lives it is why we must pay special attention to the beauty and love and do our best to spread light and love all around us.

Hoby takes pills and suffers from a disease that causes him to fall asleep and fall when he least expects.
Suga gets depressed.
JK is being bullied, and Jin is the one who watches everything that happens as if it were a movie.

Yoongi said their albums tell a story, so you must listen to the whole album to understand each song. House of Cards, Butterfly, all epic songs connected to the sentiments of this album, Even Suga's Intro on the album is unmissable. You were right, it focuses on the Fragility of Youth paired with the happiness and comfort friendship can bring, highlighting themes like You Never Walk Alone. Many people in youth suffer silently with sometimes a toxic love story or hardship that they have normalised, I love u, I hate u. This is where they need their friends and no matter the scars and pitfalls, keep running! There is the On Stage Prologue which is meant to be watched between I Need You and Run. It features the song Butterfly, this is one of the best BTS songs. Reflecting on Tae's emotions and experience as portrayed in the Prologue, the lyrics to Butterfly have so much raw emotion. Once one has been through the whole BU, one can only recognise BTS as one of the greatest bands to exist with their thoughtful and artistic portrayal of what it means to be human.
For i need you I heard that the lyrics were supposed to go "i need you friend" but that wouldn't rhyme so it was changed that helped me in connecting the lyrics of the song to the video in correlation to their storyline.
These songs make me feel an incredible sense of nostalgia i can't explain it in words :')

I would be over the moon if you do the story line....it is just SUCH good story telling!!!! The guys' acting is crazy good, and the visual story telling is insane. Gabbsi, you are so smart and pick up on stuff so quickly that I think it would be a joy to watch you go thru the story line!!! Get prepared -- it's VERY symbolic and VERY intense and deep. I saw that someone else here posted the order for the BU mv's....so, you probably saw that you missed one already, so go back and watch it if you can...it's really important not to miss any information. And just enjoy the ride -- you won't get all the pieces until very late in the game. Just one more thing -- the lyrics of the BU songs don't necessarily do the storytelling. it's MOSTLY VISUAL.The song in the credits of RUN is Butterfly -- You should def watch the credits after you hear that song....EVERY frame of these vids is relevant and important.

Aaand welcome to the Bangtan Universe aka the BU aka the storyline... 😂 It's actually a really dark, deep and extremely intricate story as you've probably already gathered by now. 😅
It includes a ton of mvs, short films, notebooks, a webtoon and even a mobile game. XCeleste has made a really good summary and that alone is about an hour but it's really worth watching because it'll give you a whole extra layer to their mvs.
For a little context RM has said that it was actually supposed to be "friend" but "girl" flowed better in the song. 😉 The last song is called Butterfly and there're two versions of it, one by the vocal line only and one by the entire group. The dance practice is really beautiful. 💜
this two songs are so important. you listen to them and they feel kinda nostalgic and they really are in the sense that it was the first time bts did a sound change. not many groups just do a 180 to their themes and concepts and lyrics and sounds, but they did. and have been ever since. one of the reasons they are as amazing and well recognized as they are, not afraid of change. still, these two songs are super nostalgic. they make me feel like on the verge of something great

It's interesting watching their older dance practice videos now, they used to kinda like agree in one style of dancing, everyone were dancing very similarly, but as time went by they've become a lot more carefree and now each one have a distinct style of dancing, which still works amazingly well together
I need you made me an army. I couldn't get over how knowing who the majority of their audience is that these are the topics they chose to portray in the video. I mean damn! I learned very quickly that I need you girl isn't at all about a girl lol, they chose it over saying friend because it sounded better. The timeline isn't straight in the BU. You're right on about Jin, he's a pivot character and is kind of apart from the others. I learned that in Stigma their life is what V is talking about "I'm sorry my sister...". Their stepfather was abusive. And I was told to pay attention to the pairings.
You can definitely get into the BU and have a heck of a lot of fun piecing things together but it's also completely ok to just enjoy each track for its own sake.

Coming back (sorry for multiple comments) - you're already on the right track on a lot of things (pairings, the flower, Tae in the water, "Jin is the key"... They're all great actors in this, but Jin and Tae are OUTSTANDING actors. "Butterfly" is the song that was running over the credits, and it's such a gorgeous song. Apart from the absolute beauty of the song itself, think about the butterfly effect.

My interpretation (which is entirely my own). I saw a story of 7 best friends who each committed suicide in different ways or lost their life.
I think it's safe to say Yoongi didn't survive lighting the room on fire. JK was hit by a car. Jimin drowned himself. RM dropped a lit cigarette on a pile of money at a gas station which presumably blew up as a result. V killed a man so presumably was sentenced to death because of committing murder. J-Hope overdosed on pills.
The parts of them running around and horsing around was them reuniting in heaven or their version of the afterlife and being able to be happy again.
Jin's character in this story, is the higher power watching over these boys in their most miserable times and seeing to it that they find peace and connection again and are together forever in the afterlife. Jin is holding 6 lily petals. These are supposed to be the innocent members. But once he puts them down, he lights them on fire, they start to burn, or better said, they lose their innocence. Very metaphorical MV. LOVE IT!

Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. Yes, love I Need U. It's a fav. THE MV IS PART OF THEIR HIDDEN BU STORYLINE IN SOME OF THEIR SONGS. So it's a lot. But they won their 1st award after this song. This story is deep complex and heartbreaking. This MV depicts suicide, overdose, and the hardships of life. It shows that when they are together they are happy and have no worries. But each one is hiding baggage and are suffering alone. This song resonated with fans and this story is why BTS are the best. It came out in 2015. Suga was the one on the bed and burned the room. V killed his dad who was hurting his sis. So we got physical abuse. JK did not fight back because he wanted the pain. They were beating up JK because he bumped into them. He is in pain because he lost his friend. Suga killed himself in the fire. Jimin is depressed and tried to kill himself by drowning in the tub. Hobi overdosed. RM is upset because he lost his friends and is alone. Jin is really important in the story and not spoiling... =0p So BTS never sings about girls. Not really. In this case girl means friend. Oh yes JK did get hit by a car. Love the song its a banger. But oh boy is the MV complex and deep. This song got them more notice in US and Korea. This was huge! When RM wrote the lyrics he wrote "I need u friend", but if you sing it like that it doesn't sound good, so he changed it to "I need u girl", but the real meaning is that I need u friend, so it's a breakup song and at the same time it fits into the story they're doing. So there's a thing called BTS Universe. It's a storyline. You need to watch all the MV's in order to understand it and "I NEED U" is the first part of the storyline. It's almost like a puzzle but lemme tell you it will blow your mind. The storyline itself is very deep and YES it includes Fake Love!
RM - works in a gas station, the clients treat him like shit (throwing money on the ground instead of giving it to him, etc) and imagery of him smoking.
Jin - in a room alone, the flower petals start burning, he is a very important character in the storyline. (All the MVs under the same storyline can be found by looking at the description of the videos, they are marked with "BU content certified by Big Hit Entertainment").
Suga - in a motel, missing someone (scene in the bed), buys gasoline and burns the room with himself inside (suicide).
J-Hope - is sick and needs meds (apparently suffers from narcolepsy, he actually has munchausen’s syndrome), but abuses the drugs and passes out in the sidewalk of a road from an overdose
Jimin - in the bathtub burning a photo, he seems in distress and scared, tries to drown himself
V - catches his dad (the dad is the alcoholic one, not V) abusing his sister, in anger and adrenaline attacks his dad and accidentally kills him
Jungkook - gets into street fights, seems to not care about anything (depression), ends up being hit by a car at the end.

19:49 kind of… it’s more a continuation from “on stage prologue” mv , but it’s nothing set in stone with the storyline and so it’s kinda impossible to miss things really… but also impossible to catch everything… if that makes sense. Like there’s SO much intricate story building going their entire discography you can find Easter eggs… it’s half the fun lol but the over all message isn’t hard to discover… or understand…. I watched it all and then watched one of the explanation videos for the storyline by xceleste and then went back and watch again… you notice so many more details they used which are crazy… but the message isn’t hidden from us. It’s more fun to explore all the creativity and story they built here .. just shows that they’ve always just broke the mold and did their own thing… and that natural evolution of their art is enticing.
This makes me want to read the notes again

Hello, according to the MV, Weebtoon of SAVE ME from the BTS universe and the theories, the 7 boys are friends, some more friends of others but in a group they are always happy because somehow they protect and help each other.
So Jin, as the eldest, must separate from the group of friends to go to university or something like that, they don't see each other anymore and since then the other 6 members begin to have problems of various kinds:
1.- Jungkook is adopted but he doesn't feel happy with his new family, there is no paternal love for him so he relies on his friend Suga with whom he is closest.
2.-Suga loses his mother in a fire, that's why there is always fire, after his mother's death he becomes distant from his friends and Jungkook.
3.- Tae, for his part, lives with an alcoholic and abusive father who beat him and his sister, exhausted from this mistreatment, he defends his sister and what is seen in the video happens. Whenever he felt bad or wanted to escape from home, he would go with Nam and Nam would make him forget his sadness.
4.- Nam for his part runs away from home and has to survive alone with jobs like the gas station, something happens with which he ends up separating from Tae.
5.- Jimin's parents took him away from his friends, Jimin had depression and was admitted to a hospital.
6.- Hobi for his part suffered from Narcolepsy (falling asleep suddenly, that's why he fainted on the bridge), in the hospital he meets Jimin.
7.- When Jin returns from university or school, he realizes that his friends were not like before, he sees his friends plunge into misery and end in the most tragic way according to various theories: Tae for being imprisoned for killing to his father, Jungkook in the hospital after being beaten by bullies and being run over in the street, it is suggested that Jimin commits suicide by drowning in the bathtub, and Suga by fire, J hope developing some disorder from his past trauma , RM I think also ended up in jail.
The point here is that Jin returns and within this universe he finds a way to travel in dimensions to change this tragic moment, many videos that are connected come from there.

Are you going to watch the prologue? The video actually from what I understand goes in between “I need u” and “run” bc that “on stage prologue” is a lot more of the storyline and the song doesn’t have a lot of lyrics.. but it’s beautiful the way it’s shot.. you have to see it !!

Yes please go back and watch “on stage prologue” it’s more story than lyrics and it’s beautiful and has one of my favorite scenes they ever shot … it’s also healing and beautiful to see them in most of it…. It’s truly a gorgeously shot mv and something special but yeh it was supposed to be before run … but you will notice more things but don’t worry about missing things with the storyline… you are just fine

You are right, JK is the youngest in the video and he watches others who suffer from different problems, he wants to help and he is the key here. He'll bring the solution with water that distinguishes fire and washes away all the problems. Jin here wants to grow up the flower, like build a normal life but he can't due to the problems of youth.
