David Hockney is unusual as he sees what many Western artists don't. He understands the Mathematical proportions and drawing and denotations systems so well. He thinks scientifically and analytically too.
"They don't see shadows." --speaking of the Japanese and Chinese. Except a semi-canonical aesthetic protest to Westernization in Japan is called "In Praise of Shadows."
I can draw things from life- the perspective of the complicated things hockney speaks of. With practice and continual. It isn't easy at all and done everytime, but the eye can do a lot. You can train yourself to a high degree. If anyone wants to film me doing this. No measuring. It is not easy. It takes it all out of you it is very draining.
Art is anything, anything atall- everything is art. I can't see a virtue out of 'scientific perspective' or no scientific perspective or indeed shadows or no shadows.... what does it matter. Two dimensional art is about style, fashion, shapes, colour and composition, to say nothing regarding the message the 'art' tries to impart. David would be the first to tell you that there are no rules in art and he would be the very first person to contradict, by his actions the very thing he condemns a couple of days earlier.

The Getty - Great content. Budget for audio quality £9.99. Pity. Thanks anyway
Is digital art really art? i don't think so - it doesn't really exist beyond a printer ... a painting is real world.
La peinture ne s’explique pas !
Van Gogh s’incarnait.
Vous êtes un grand peintre !
Trop! De bla-bla !
