    CORRECTION: This watch can actually be adjusted to start from near the 12 o'clock position by removing the crown and using the top pusher. I say near, as even when adjusted it still isn't close to hitting the 12 marker and sits off to the left.

    I fell into this trap when I was about 16. My poor dad bought me a txm087 for Christmas and I loved it… until the small second hand fell out from normal wear a few months in. Took it in for repairs and thought that was the end of my troubles, until the big second hand became horribly misaligned for seemingly no reason. Wore it until the battery died and haven’t touched it since. I now own g-shocks and Seikos so I don’t exactly miss it.

    Ben, you have to be one of my favorite watch reviewers. Great work as always.These “affordable luxury” pieces represent the ugly side of horology. Timex, Citizen, Seiko, Bulova, Hamilton, Swatch, and Casio are REAL watch makers. It’s their core competency. Whereas these cheap “minimalist” quartz pieces are just some tasteless, unoriginal, junk.

    Ben, I and many fellow amateur horologists thankyou for these Tayroc, MVMT, Daniel Welington watch reviews which are just as valuable as the Orient, Seiko 5 etc, bargains. It's clear that these are all cheap, souless, designless shells of watches created to be as cheap as possible and to be pushed until the enormous marketing budget runs out. Tayroc becomes yet another name to add to the avoid list.

    • @mikeg8276
      @mikeg8276 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed. I’d much rather wear a Timex than a DW, and I do. But if someone really wants a “designer” quartz watch as a fashion piece, they’d be much better off going with a Swiss watch made for an Italian brand like Gucci, Versace, or Ferragamo.

    • @aitskimoro9035
      @aitskimoro9035 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What are the other names on the avoid list?

    • @MrLogistician
      @MrLogistician 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@aitskimoro9035 Filippo loretti. Basically any watch that advertises itself as "affordable luxury" or watches with bland and uninspired design, like DW/tayroc/MVMT the video, especially if they're more than 150. I also avoid any watch with a "designer" brand name, like Tommy Hilfiger. Also Movado, but that is probably a contentious brand to mention.
      I also use Swatch as a benchmark. Swatches are plastic, rubber, and quartz, but they're actually "made in Switzerland" (so at least 60%) and they're usually 80 USD for a 3 hander watch and 150 for a chronograph, both less or equal to equivalent watches from names to avoid. Swatches also advertise their watches along lines such as fun and colorful watches, not affordable luxury or minimalist.
      Ultimately if someone buys an MVMT or whatever and likes it, I'm not ok with that since they're bought it based on advertising and marketing brainwashing and if they like it they're just further falling victim to commitment and status quo biases.

  • @The9gods

      Other "watch enthusiasts" on TH-cam are raving it so highly, you'd be forgiven if you thought they were the cows that jumped over the moonswatch (pun intended). In their videos, they always seem to stress the value of a watch relative to its price, especially in terms of quality and materials used. They're roasting other watches for not being worth $200+ because they're made from plastic that's not scratch resistant, the strap looks cheap and flimsy and they're not even water resistant (or barely). And yet they're all thrilled about dishing out more than $260 for the moonswatch with those very same specifications.?
      That's why I'm questioning their "honest" reviews. In my honest opinion, I think these influencers are being influenced by other influencers because they must fall in line with other influencers otherwise their credibility will be attacked and their influence as an influencer will get canceled. My personal favorite budget brands are Timex and G Shock by Casio. Timex is a good watch for everyday casual wear and can work just fine for dressing up. G Shock works great for utility wear as it's my preferred watch for work around the shop as I'm more prone to bumping my watch on absolutely everything that is capable of damaging it.

    I'll stick with my Aragon Divemaster2 with the Seiko automatic movements. I've worn it for nearly five years until a link broke in the bracelet(I've knocked it about quite a bit). It looks far better put together to me and fit and finish seems way better.

    I love my old Pebble watches (they still work fine) and even my knockoff Watch 7. Exactly the Applewatch but way way cheaper. It's fun. Just had to put a real watchband on that for about the same price as the watch, LOL

    Hi. Been enjoying your reviews for some time now and have taken some of your advice when looking to add to my collection. I own a 1980's Seiko chronograph quartz watch, which I believe they called a "Panda". It was purchased by a family member around 1983 and I believe is one of (if not the first) mechanical Chronograph manufactured. That's all I know about it, it works well and thinking to use it as my every day watch but been advised it's a special watch and to invest in replacing the glass and pay for a service. I'm no expert but love my watches, could you shine a little more information on this watch and any advice you can give me. Thank you.

    My favorite quote from a TH-camr said it best. never buy a product that a TH-camr was given, especially if they’re just talking about buying the watch, and not actually giving good/bad comments on it. only consider it if they spent their own money on it

    Makes a Timex Q reissue look absolutely great. And I don't mean to put the Q down. It's good on its own for its price point and market niche. The Q simply has a little something to satisfy "the horological aspect" which the piece being reviewed, clearly lacks.
