    In this video I show you why it is so difficult to walk on water? Even if you have some super-floaty shoes, it is still hard! But why? Then I talk about if we could use water-tension, and then a final solution for humans walking on water!

    It's also hard to walk on deep snow, but someone invented snow shoes and cross-country skis. I'll bet it can be done. Here's a thought. Make two long box-like skis each with a volume of about 23 gallons (90 liters) for a 150 lb (70kg) user. Use ski boots or something that keeps you shins nearly perpendicular to the skies. Because they are long and there are two of them, they essentially form a square version of the jar with pennies on top in the video, which is stable up to a certain angle. Then make ski poles with maybe 3 gallon (10 litter) floats on their ends that you can use for added stability and to push yourself through the water. You could also add ridges or "treads" to the skies to help them push the water better when you wanted to walk forward or backward. It wouldn't be like walking on land, but it wouldn't be too different maybe from skiing over deep snow. Each ski would only have to have dimensions of about 6' x 1'x 0.5' (2 x 0.3 x 0.15 meters).

    • @ShlokParab
      @ShlokParab 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Did you calculate all that?

    • @RaeKobi
      @RaeKobi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      While it's certainly interesting, most water sports boards are similar in volume and generally much easier and faster in terms of movement. I think it would take something particularly innovative to get people to ski on water, but I think it'd be funny to see :D.

      @@ShlokParab probably they’re simple calculations all he did was divide a person’s weight by the weight of water per gallon and a quick volume calculation. People have tried to do this, it’s very hard to stand but I believe hypothetically there could be a ski shape that makes this feasible. (Definitely not a boxy shape like this guy suggested tho lmao). Something similar to ice skating how you push your feet off to the side to go forward maybe.

    Water pressure, not like how deep you dive the more pressure but like when you try to hydraulic press water in a cup, it'll break or it'll stop the machine. So if you stand on a water surface that's exactly the same width and height of your foot. Then you're standing on water

    Hmmm...the experiment of gravity reduction and flippers has a fundamental hook..if you suspend 80% of your body weight, it isn't the same as reducing the gravity by 80%. The water is still under the influence of the full gravity, unlike if you were on the moon. There, your weight would be a sixth of that on earth but so would be the water and so its surface tension...I think it wouldn't work even on the moonto walk on water even with flippers, unless you would put the water under pressure, simulating gravity and air pressure on earth without affecting your body by this pressure, which would be pretty difficult

    • @Owen_loves_Butters
      @Owen_loves_Butters 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This might be correct if water wasn't incompressible.

    • @mathmaticalcompass5481
      @mathmaticalcompass5481 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good thought! Surface tension would remain the same, but boyancy force would also be affected due to the reduced weight of water just like you predict. Luckily I think the researchers were using the reaction force of hitting the water, rather then the buoyancy force. So because water is not compressible as Owen mentioned, and its mass is still the same to resist acceleration through inertia, the results might not be affected by the water's reduced weight. On the other hand, stepping into the water encounters resistance because there is water in the way of the flipper: the reduced weight of the water might make it easier for the water to simply move out of the way of your foot by means of raising the water level around it, causing the force of your step to go into creating waves (lifting water) rather than pushing you upward (lifting you). I guess it would depend on whether the predominant mechanism for water resisting the entry of a flipper is the inetria of the water as a whole resisting acceleration, or the weight of the water resisting being lifted. It could be a combination of both! Maybe we need another test with a liquid similar to water but only 22% as dense to see for sure. :)

    Actually, you could use DaVinci-esque water shoes to walk on water (I think), just by adding a counter-weight under water (like the keel of ship) to lower the center of mass, and adjusting the shape of the shoes a bit (like deep boots) to increase their buoyancy to compensate for the additional weight. Basically, a giant weighted test tube on each leg ...
