i wonder if the game removed for "mature content" was actually incorrectly rated. nintendo allows full nudity in retail games, as long as their rating correctly says 18+. for eshop games they allow partial nudity, again as long as it is rated for 18+ if the game doesn't have an 18+ rating despite having nudity it is incorrectly rated, and nintendo rejects it because parental controls wouldn't work correctly for it.
Also, an 18+ rating is an AO (adults only) game, since M rating only allows for partial nudity… (so essentially Nintendo allows AO pr0n games on their console, as long as it is cartridge only and not on the eshop…)
@@crazysilly2914 AO games are banned in literally all storefronts both online and in person, and only around 8 or so AO games have ever been published. Edit: Basically, if your game mentions sex in any way, you get an instant M. The same rating as TLOU2 and other uber-violent, uber-sexual games like it. You said the Nintendo Switch version of Minecraft was removed because they wanted to port over the pc version to replace it. While somewhat true, this statement is not 100 percent correct. What happened was that they originally could not get the pc version of Minecraft to work on consoles so they would remake Minecraft from the ground up to run on consoles. However, they still had to constantly update each version, and after having about 7 different versions to work on, the developers started to feel overwhelmed. Like what many people have said, the Fire Emblem physical collection doesn't have a physical cart for the game. It has a standard game box (iirc but whatever) that only contains a digital voucher code for the game, and that's the ONLY way to get the game: through the eShop. Dunno if the voucher codes still work even after the game got delisted from the eShop, but yeah people who missed it then might not be able to play it legally anymore. But then... there are 2 alternatives for that: either grabbing a physical copy of Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon on the DS or buy its digital version from the Wii U eShop before its closure late March 2023. Why this one? Because it's a FULL BLOWN REMAKE OF FIRE EMBLEM 1 aka the VERY NES game that got delisted from the Switch eShop. Now, there's the caveat of spending a lot of money online to grab a physical DS copy of Shadow Dragon or even more for a Wii U since the latter was discontinued a few years ago. Then, and yes THEN, if you go with the Wii U route, you'll STILL need to make a new eShop account, then buy a gift card for it and THEN buy the game off the eShop for about 10$ or so. I never understood why didn't Nintendo used the DS version as the basis for the Switch release of Fire Emblem 1 as it's the superior version compared to the NES one they legally hacked into making it more accessible to everyone for a very short period of time.
I have two of these titles digitally, but I archived them a while ago since I didn't enjoy playing them. I had no idea that they were ever removed until just this moment. Thankfully it will still let me re-download them, I was going to be pretty angry if it just stole money from me lmao.
As far as I and the internet knows, there is no physical copy of Fire Emblem 30th. Just a bunch of collector swag and a download code. Also there are tons more adult oriented switch games (both digital and physical) that are out there. Switch is pretty much the new Vita in that regard
Oh no, I’m also just recovering from a nasty cold!!! I’m sure you’ve been recovered a while now, i hope! Thank you for every e shop video you’ve ever done, I will watch them all always!!
Quick correction on Minecraft: The Nintendo Switch version wasn’t missing any features from the PC versions, but it didn’t offer crossplay and operated on a different codebase. (Also themed worlds were offered in other console versions. Playstation had a Little Big Planet one.) The new unified platform was actually built on the Pocket edition (for mobile), but I believe Windows 10 was created on the same codebase from the get-go. Also note that the Java edition for PC, Mac, and Linux that most TH-camrs play on is still a separate edition. Anyways great video! 😁
man the little big planet map was so good on the ps3, the memories of all those themed maps feel so new even tho it has been years since I last played them
It is soooo good to see this. When you’re left wondering just what happened to a game… I noticed on the charts recently that Minecraft was no longer listed as Switch version. Thanks for doing some digging!
One of your best videos yet, to be honest. Very interesting topic. Fortunately I got the digital version of Fire Emblem. It's so weird how short of a time it was available.
I bought a physical copy of cooking mama at Walmart when i saw it got pulled from the eshop. Still sealed just incase it's ever worth something lol. They rereleased it later on though
I have Mario 3D All Stars digitally, although I wouldn't go as far as to call it a "rare" achievement since physical versions are surprisingly super prevalent. I also have Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon which was interesting because I think it's the closest thing we'll ever get to Virtual Console on the Switch. I believe the physical version was just a download code with collectibles, so you aren't missing out on a cartridge at the very least. The most obscure one I have that actually ISN'T mentioned in this video is the Balan Wonderworld demo which got delisted after receiving very negative reception. This caused the devs to update the main version of the game, although from what I heard it didn't really make things better.
@@1ManBassBand so long as they are still downloaded to your Switch, yes. In most cases, the eShop still archives them for you in the “Redownload” section on your profile if you already downloaded them at least once in the past. I know this because the “Daemon X Machina Prototype Missions” are still downloadable for me even after they were removed from the eShop in favor of the newer demo. I imagine that with some of the more extreme cases, such as the one Wood mentioned involving giving people the option to code on Switch, those type of games would likely be removed for download on the eShop no matter what. I’ve even heard that system updates can remove games like these.
Anyone remember that creepy horror game where ur in the back of a cab n have to beat off without getting caught by the cab driver. It was up for preorder from what I remember and Nintendo removed it before it released.
5:19 Zelda's Lullaby... One of my favorite Zelda songs, but why would a game that isn't proper Zelda just copy Zelda's music with no alterations to the songs whatsoever...?

Nintendo allowing some pretty lewd content on the eShop is amazing. It's funny, since I've seen some games be censored by Sony and Nintendo was like "nah, we're not gonna censor this." Nintendo isn't the greatest company, but sometimes they get a big W.

The Stranger Things game was pulled from the eShop due to Netflix creating their own games studio and the ability to play their games in the app. Thus making the game exclusive to Netflix subscribers.
I love stuff like this; for a few months I've been going between both the Aus and US e-shop and seeing games that aren't available in my home region. Two examples are 'Mary Skelter Finale' and the Switch port of 'Fruits of Grisaia' which both were refused classification; this baffles me because games from the Genkai Tokki series show up on both online stores as well as 'Omega Labyrinth Life.'
This was a great video I had no idea any of that was going on with Nintendo!! I always feel like I learn so much about gaming and the industry from you so thank you and keep making great videos!!

Another interesting delisting was a game called Duel Princess. Its a tower defense game with anime girls and suggestive cut scenes. It was delisted from the eShop a couple weeks after release because Nintendo apparently deemed it too lewd.
What I don’t get is how eShop games are far more expensive than the actual physical versions…it’s a good thing I love physical versions more as I love owning the cases 💪🏼
many digital games that have physical releases are cheaper. first party tho you pay full price unless your lucky to find one at a walmart for $50. atelier ryza games are more expensive as physical same with xenoblade chronicles, but with the atelier games you have to import. i paid almost $80 for each on amazon cause they are import only for the west. most of the time physicals are only cheaper if buy used at gamestop and thats if your lucky to find any good ones worth playing or if they go on sale at different stores which is rare.
And the funny thing is that the physicals cost more to make bc of the case, and they take up less storage on the switch, so they should DEFINITELY be more than what they’re priced
@@danganidot I see what you mean just finding it a little ridiculous how Nintendo don’t drop prices over time! On the eShop or physical I mean even ps5 games are cheaper then some Switch games 🙄🙄🙄 Nintendo needs to get with the program!
@@DadsLoveGaming I agree, but I understand why, it’s so their games get a better name than other consoles. Because they don’t drop their prices, they are tricking their customers to buying immediately because it’s better for the customer. Like if everyone of your friends has a game but you don’t because your mom said to wait for the price to drop, then a year later the price is still the same, you’re just gonna buy it anyways. So the main reason the prices don’t drop is so people buy the game immediately and the game’s stats for the first month or whatever are higher, I think?
@@danganidot I can understand that to a point if I’m being honest. Nintendo have always been good with their market strategies but still find it annoying 😂

I love the video. Although, I’m pretty sure if a game gets delisted and you buy it, you can still re-download it on the switch. I know you can re-down though them on other consuls if they’re delisted.
I didn't know that Super Mario 3D All Stars was removed. Bought it when I got my switch lite because SM64, and Sunshine are two of my favorite mario games, and I knew Galaxy was supposed to be really good as well. I'm glad I was able to download it again on my regular switch when I got it.
1:59 The "Squiggly button", that symbol is called a tilde. It's used in maths for when you want to make an approximation without knowing the EXACT answer. Wow! Definitely some video game info that I had no idea about. Personally, if I can afford it, I always try to get physical copies in case of delistings online. Here's a fun fact, the squiggly line you were referring to in the beginning is called the "tilde" and it's the same squiggly line over the Spanish ñ. It's called the Tilde key. You use it to open a command line in a lot of Bethesda games, like Skyrim or fallout 3. That's why I know what it's called. You can do some pretty fun cheats with it, like giving you developer weapons or stuff that you can't normally get. My favourite is giving yourself Liberty Primes grenades and eye beam. You throw grenades bigger than yourself with infinite reach and the eye beam just shoots straight out of your chest, it's hilarious.
Also, they didn't make the PC version universal, Bedrock is universal, it was never the PC version. The PC version is called Java, and unfortunately they didn't just make that universal...
tbh, they didnt change anything in the "adaptation" process for minecraft story edition, its literally the same game, just the button inputs for the QTE's changed.
Loving the video! This had me wondering… switch games have been actively being “dumped” from the start of its consoles lifespan. I’m wondering if any of these titles can be found in the “switch underground” for play on a modded console? Yet again… another valid reason for digital games to be archived. NOT PIRATED! I’d seriously be beyond livid if my stranger things DLC was removed from a game I’d purchased for reasons as described. Screw that!
I can confirm the overheating will never be an issue. The switch physically couldn't overheat itself as long as it get's proper cooling.
As far as I and the internet knows, there is no physical copy of Fire Emblem 30th. Just a bunch of collector swag and a download code. Also there are tons more adult oriented switch games (both digital and physical) that are out there. Switch is pretty much the new Vita in that regard
And those download codes are the only way to get the game now since you can no longer buy it from the eshop.
@@nightwing179 Or if you buy someone's account off/gameshare with someone who had it
Yep just download code. No physical version. I have the downloaded game on my Switch. Sucks.
The Snorlax joke was probably about the Snorlax in the originals that would block your path and required an item to wake up
Fire Emblem was announced to have the limited release when it first came out. It wasn’t a hidden detail or random de-listing.
Have to say wood, your videos have been top notch entertainment and better than ever! Love that your posting more often and awesome funny videos
Playstation had a Little Big Planet one.)
The new unified platform was actually built on the Pocket edition (for mobile), but I believe Windows 10 was created on the same codebase from the get-go. Also note that the Java edition for PC, Mac, and Linux that most TH-camrs play on is still a separate edition.
Anyways great video! 😁
man the little big planet map was so good on the ps3, the memories of all those themed maps feel so new even tho it has been years since I last played them
This was a fun and interesting video wood. I like how different the concept is to any other standard switch video out there
It is soooo good to see this. When you’re left wondering just what happened to a game…
I noticed on the charts recently that Minecraft was no longer listed as Switch version. Thanks for doing some digging!
One of your best videos yet, to be honest. Very interesting topic. Fortunately I got the digital version of Fire Emblem. It's so weird how short of a time it was available.
I think that this would be a really cool series, if you are able to find more games like this, Wood. Really cool video!
I bought a physical copy of cooking mama at Walmart when i saw it got pulled from the eshop. Still sealed just incase it's ever worth something lol. They rereleased it later on though
i think walmart has them on their $19.99 or less shelf
@@adambennett08330 for a newer version.
Great video! The Cooking Mama case was mind-blowing...
Hey Can you still play the digital games even after they take them down if you own them?
Nevermind
Thanks king I appreciate it
Very interesting, definitely do more videos like this! Working in software, it’s interesting to hear what goes wrong for others! 😆
I was sad jump force got delighted. Was on my eshop wishlist for so long. Glad I got my physical copy though
ew why did you buy it thats the worst game ive ever played
@@MrBanane50505 100% fanboy decision. Just wanted to play a fighting game where yugi moto and seto Kaiba go hands with goku xD
@@Sugarbear4_20 jump ultimate stars on ds was better than that garbage lol
@@SonplaysMinEcraft j-stars victory vs+ is a better game than jump force, and that one was bad lol
This was amazing. No idea why but I was completely hooked haha.
That was really interesting and I learned a lot, I didn't know it was possible to create such dodgy software on the switch as the ones you mentioned. Thanks!
I will say you're one of thr few creators I watch where I dont skip the add read lol, I always enjoy what you do with em!
Great video!!! You just made my day better
Thank you Wood!!! Hope all is well🙂
I just purchased the ninja gaiden master collection for $30 U.S. dollars on the Nintendo eshop. A steal
The "physical" version of Fire emblem is just bonus items. The actual game is still just a download. The box included a download code for the game
its probably better just to buy the remake for the ds called fire emblem shadow dragon
@@joeyisabsb1 They're pretty different games and experiences. Personally I find both fun. A lot of people would disagree and say that FE1 is bad though
Hope you feel better soon, great vid !
Nintendo allowing some pretty lewd content on the eShop is amazing. It's funny, since I've seen some games be censored by Sony and Nintendo was like "nah, we're not gonna censor this."
Nintendo isn't the greatest company, but sometimes they get a big W.
"Censored by Sony but not Nintendo"
*Cough cough* DDLC Plus *Cough cough*
@@nightmare3642 Please inform me as to this situation. I've heard of DDLC+, but I never knew what was different from it and the base game, and the fact that something in it was censored makes me curious.
@@ARDIZsq All traces of Blood were changed to black in the Playstation versions. This spoils the fact that the characters are aware that they are not real in the sense that they are not even human, which is supposed to be revealed once Monika remains as the last member alive. PC, Nintendo Switch and Xbox versions retain red blood.
That intro actually sounded 100% like intros people do for their horror channels that read scary stories. I'm sold, start a horror channel!! xD
Wood I LOVED this video it is really good one of my favorite videos you've ever made, you should totally make more videos likes this or similar!
The most dark thing is how early AAA Switch games are still $60. Even worse, Wii U port still being expensive.
It’s ok, we all love Zack! 😂
And good Job Zack on this video. He doesn’t get enough appreciation! ❤
"I'll never get when long lasting franchises like cooking mama... would just hire a company with no experience"
[Cries in Elder Scrolls Legends]
That's why you should always buy physical
Me a pirate: arrr I guess we will be sailing tonight boys for this one
Pirate gang ✊
The Stranger Things game was pulled from the eShop due to Netflix creating their own games studio and the ability to play their games in the app. Thus making the game exclusive to Netflix subscribers.
I love stuff like this; for a few months I've been going between both the Aus and US e-shop and seeing games that aren't available in my home region. Two examples are 'Mary Skelter Finale' and the Switch port of 'Fruits of Grisaia' which both were refused classification; this baffles me because games from the Genkai Tokki series show up on both online stores as well as 'Omega Labyrinth Life.'
Cool video! Thank you for all your effort puttting it together. Hope you feel better soon.
This was a great video I had no idea any of that was going on with Nintendo!! I always feel like I learn so much about gaming and the industry from you so thank you and keep making great videos!!
“Probably because it’s the sponsor of the video.” This killed me for some reason
Wood you’re literally my fav content creator and no I’m not being sarcastic
Another interesting delisting was a game called Duel Princess. Its a tower defense game with anime girls and suggestive cut scenes. It was delisted from the eShop a couple weeks after release because Nintendo apparently deemed it too lewd.
Dear wood,
Thanks for always pushing through everything and getting videos out.
I get real happy every time i see a notification from here.
Great video. Interesting to hear all of the stories.
This was a really fun video! I didn't know about most of these so I found it very interesting.
This is incredible BeatEmUps, I loved this vid
Great video, very interesting and it shows that hard work does pay off. Your time researching all this was well spent.
The Fire Emblem game wasn’t a real physical version as it had a download code instead of a cartridge
loved that bit where he was telling zach to add spooky music then like "zach....." cause he knew very well he would leave that bit in XD
and sometimes when you think about it piracy is preserving these games and make it available to some consumers.
11:05 what's even worse is Netflix didn't even go beyond episode 5
19:30 -- Actually no, there wasn't a "physical" edition. That physical bundle included a digital code, so the game itself was always digital.
Love this video! I've noticed pretty much all of these things and it's always compelled me how the eShop has been handled this should time. It's very wild west. Which is surprising from Nintendo.
something that i learned today…. that took my attention away at the end, is you can make groups/folders with your games
I thought that to unlock the dark side of the Switch store you had to collect 250 purchased games?
Think he's long surpassed that by now!
Anyone else have a hunch as to Steven's next mystery purchase to blow Wood's mind?
I love the video. Although, I’m pretty sure if a game gets delisted and you buy it, you can still re-download it on the switch. I know you can re-down though them on other consuls if they’re delisted.
guys whatever you do, do not pause video at 0:18
Mario 35 will forever be missed :( and I’m so happy I downloaded the Fire Emblem one before it disappeared.
There are some absolute pieces of crap on the eShop - there's a Piano playing game that has piano keys that *don't exist* on it.
The amount of sexual dating sims is hilarious to me! Like it’s LITERALLY endless😂 WHY THOUGH??????
the craziest story is the sinking city situation.
all the rbi baseball game were removed too.
"Across all platforms" Mac and Linux apperently doesn't exist and the new version that is used is not the PC version it's mobile version
Love your videos, Wood! I love it when multiple Woods appear! Hope you're doing okay.
Hey love your vids mate, keep it up 👍
Loved this episode. Thank you!
You can use it like this, A+B~C, in that case, A plus B "may" equal to C. Often used to make an hypothesis on equalations until you know the actual answer.
Also in spanish's "ñ"
Dunno how to describe the sound of the letter, even tho it's my first language lol
@@KevinAccetta Isn't is the same as a rolling r, but you roll the n sound?
@@ianwagj nope. It's kinda like if you pronounced "nyah" (the sound before the "ah" part of course). The tongue sticks to the top of your mouth, unlike in "no" when only the tip of the tongue does (for example).
Wow! Definitely some video game info that I had no idea about. Personally, if I can afford it, I always try to get physical copies in case of delistings online.
Here's a fun fact, the squiggly line you were referring to in the beginning is called the "tilde" and it's the same squiggly line over the Spanish ñ. It's okay, most people don't know what it is either. If I would have heard someone say squiggly line I'd know exactly what they're talking about.
My SO is not a gamer but he does do computer stuff and he enjoyed this one for that side of it.
Super interesting. I’d watch another video like this for sure.
Lol Never a dull moment in your work Woods 😆. .. and lol honestly these are a big reason as to why I think anyone going all digital is a bad idea 😅.
Good job on the dark opening, I really like dark things so I felt right at home with the intro.
I have the switch edition of Minecraft on my switch still, it was quite cool honestly.
7:30 it was still being sold in australia the whole time which makes it stranger.
@BeatEmUps Actually, the Fire Emblem "physical" was just a bunch of collector's stuff with a digital code of the game lol no physical copy of the game exists which sucks but in the least the code WILL still work if you manage to grab one without it having been used already. Alright this Fire Emblem freak has done their work for today lol
Can u do Nintendo switch games that you can ONLY own physical, I have a few ones that I know about: Skylanders Imaginators, The quintessential quintuplets Nintendo switch game, mario 3d all stars
Good video and entertaining I just bought Rayman legends btw which is fun any way very good channel 10/10 would watch again
I think you forgot about the Rayman Legends Demo on E-shop, it got released then taken down later because I think there was some problem playing the game on Docked Mode, correct me if I'm wrong
That game you cannot talk about is actually one of the best selling switch games right now.
He did talk about it.
I think this was SUPER interesting! Love it! I know this was a while ago, but I hope you felt better quickly! Poor thing, making a vid when you're sick! You can wait to make a vid, yk! We'll still be here! You're the best, Wood
You always have the best creative 💡ideas for videos!😄 This was super interesting to watch!😱🔥 -The effort you put into all your videos, man, we're not worthy!🤧❤️
As much as I'd love to have an universal version of Java, I'm pretty sure it was close to impossible to run Java on consoles.
Yea try running java on a potato machine.. no way Jose
tbh, they didnt change anything in the "adaptation" process for minecraft story edition, its literally the same game, just the button inputs for the QTE's changed.
U don't even need to use Netflix's adaptation just download it on a modded switch
Screw that!
I bought it…
You should not be able to sell DLC or game content for games when you don’t have the licensing worked out. I mean come on!
This is the stuff class action lawsuits are made of. #InstantRefund
Yeah you can easy obtain "legal backups" of all these games w dlc
Ittle dew 2 looks exactly like the game "Zelda: Links awakening." Its not the best game from the zelda franchise but it looks exactly the same.
One thing that still makes no sense about nintendo e-shop is that they ask if I want to receive discount announcements on my e-mail and to this day I NEVER got anything. Not even from those crappy $5 games costing $1.
1: potentially check spam email 2: you need to wishlist games and whenever those go on sale, you'll get an email
Hope this helps
This was an interesting video, Wood. I actually didn't know about most of these removals except for the Mario 3D All Stars. Hope you feel better soon.
