Leather Soul - Tannery Work

A sequence from the 1991 documentary "Leather Soul: Working for a Life in a Factory Town" (DVDs available at www.zingerplatz...). Narrated by Studs Terkel, the film is a video and oral history of life in Peabody, Massachusetts - one the largest producer of leather in the world. By the time the documentary was produced there were only a handful of leather tanneries left in Peabody and the city had re-invented itself around industrial parks full of high-tecjh industry, factories converted to condos and shopping malls. The film documents the life and work experiences of leather workers and the changes in quality of life as factories closed.
