- In 1991, Laurie Cabot, the "Official Witch of Salem" was interviewed for the documentary "Witch City." In this deleted footage from that film she talks about Salem's representation of witchcraft today and how she feels the city has come to misinterpret, exploit and market its history. She also discusses her own business ventures.

Laurie Cabot is a brave woman. How many of us would have opened a witch shop in the early seventies? This was not a novelty store for tourists, but a bonafide store dedicated to the Art and Science of Witchcraft- one of the first in the country. I'm pretty sure she must have faced prejudice, struggle and opposition in the beginning. I think she is amazing for keeping her doors open for us as long as she has. Laurie deserves every dollar she has made. In fact she should raise her prices!

please don't misunderstand....that evil comment was merely a sarcastic jab to those who see only dollars. I have been practicing for 22 years now, so yes I agree with everything you are saying. Although "evil" is their invented word...I prefer to just say anyone has the potential to be negative or do harm and those types exist in every path though a very small % , but as we know the media isn't going to focus on all of the good positive work.

Rebecca, good for you!!! Nonya, it makes sense because if she is going through multiple stages of witchcraft then it would make sense because I know a few witches who started out pagan then go on to witchcraft so it makes sense.

Mrs. Karma does not discriminate against anyone at the end of it all Laurie do to a few discrepancies doesn't have the power like she used to sadly, shit happens .. I personally enjoy hearing Laurie Cabot speak...but she has devoted her life to Witchcraft and says she has no idea why the Witches are on brooms... I'm quite sure she is aware of psychedelics and fertility rites.
Yes, but rubbing a psychedelic/drug onto the skin probably wouldn't of given a positive look on witches & witchcraft back in the day. Especially when trying to define Salem, her businesses & witches themselves.
