    The lining up of the three pens head-to-head to compare sizes in a well-lit conditions was really useful and will help those who are considering buying these pens. The review was also detailed. Thank you!

    I too was pleased to see a review of the M600, as it was the first Pelikan that I acquired. I’ve had my Blue Ocean for over a decade and since I purchased it, various other Pelikans have come to make their way into my aviary, but the M600 occupies a special place in my heart. Your review was particularly useful to me, as I held my pen in my hand, noting the various features as you discussed them. Thanks for such an informative review.
    Eric

    10:50 you are supposed to place the bottle on one of its side when you are running low on ink. That way the pen feed will be able to suck in what's left in the bottle.

    I like your videos really much, and the pens are really great. i love the look of the Pelikan. Im from germany and i have used Pelikan pens since i was in the elementary school. so i think i have to spend money for a M600, the color is so beautiful. thank you very much David.

    Truly a fantastic pen. This one and the Aurora Optima are perhaps my all time favorites. As I always post my pens they are the perfect size for me. I have both in green, with fine nibs.

    Thank you for the excellent review. Most commenters on fountain pens tend to discuss the M800 and M1000, omitting the M600 for no reason that I can understand. I second the comment that asks you to compare the size of the pen to another well known pen, such as a Lamy 2000 and/or a Lamy Al-Star. Perhaps you are aware that the M800 and M1000 use a brass piston mechanism, while the M600, M400, and M200 use a plastic piston mechanism? This accounts for much of the difference in the feel of the pens from what I have heard. I repeat my congratulations on an excellent discussion of this neglected member of the Pelikan line.

    Great review, excellent mix of the subjective & objective. Well edited, great flow. Like your style. Oh yes, the pen. Did I hear a squeak when you were writing? Some of my modern Pelikans squeak or sign when writing. Thanks for sharing.

      +chrisrap52 Thanks for the feedback. I try to make sure my production quality is at a decent level. I have seen too many videos where the production quality is terrible and it takes away from the message. My stuff isn't perfect...but it's getting there. Yes, I would say that most of my Pelikans "sing" a little while writing. No so much the M1000...more the M805 and M600.

    I have tiny hands for an adult, so I tend to gravitate towards M2xx, M4xx and their vintage cousins. The M6xx comes in a couple of really nice color options. I would like to find a pre-1990 vintage one.
    Great review as usual. Thanks for giving your time so generously.

    You mentioned the date when they started making the M600. You might be interested to know that the original M600 was a very different pen. It was exactly the same size and shape as the M400, but it had the fancier trim of the current sourerän line (i.e. double gold rings, etc.) whereas the M400 had the simple original design. So other than looking like a scaled down version of the current M600, the original M600 doesn’t really have anything in common with current one. I think the modern full-sized M600 didn’t appear until after the M800, but it’s easy enough to look up. Thanks for the review!

    I broke down and bought myself an M600 as a Christmas present last year. I bought the pen at a huge discount from the asking price in the USA but still consider I paid far too much for a pen. Since this is probably the last fountain pen I will ever buy I know I won't be shelling out any more for a pen than what I paid for the Pelikan. But I digress...
    I filled the pen with Pelikan 4001 ink and set to writing. I had ordered a fine nib, knowing they were a bit on the broad side of fine, but I was cautious of going too fine. Being limited to buying things via the internet is a pain...I would have been happier to have been given a chance to try different nib sizes in hand before paying for a pen. The fine nib is what I would consider a medium. I was not at all prepared by reviews for the performance of the pen. Far from being 'wet', a 'gusher', et cetera as I had seen it described, the pen is merely moderately wet. As far as smoothness: The pen is smooth with a bit of feedback. Again, not what I had been led to expect.
    After some use, I decided I liked the Pelikan. I'd rank its performance as equal to that of the Pilot Custom Heritage 92, Platinum 3776, Parker '51', the small handful of Bexleys I own, and a few other of the quality pens my wife and I own. Nothing extraordinary but definitely a few steps above run of the mill.
    My biggest vexation, considering the price I paid, was that the cap would not stay posted. The pen itself is too short for me to use. It has to be posted to be long enough to fit comfortably in my hand. The dog-gone cap would not stay posted. The other day my wife asked how I was enjoying the pen. I told her of my disappointment. She expressed sympathy and suggested that maybe if I fiddled with it more...I fiddled with it more, cursing the lack of a solid fit when, click, a more strenuous effort slipped the cap securely into place. Who knew?
    In this video, Figboot is seen effortlessly posting the pen and removing the cap. This is not the case with my example. It takes quite an effort to force the cap into a secure position and quite a bit more to remove it when you're through writing. (It takes more effort than posting an Aurora Ipsilon, if you're familiar with that pen.) Maybe someday it will loosen just a bit (not too much) and everything will be fine. It would be nice, though, if Pelikan instructed owners in posting the pen and if reviewers made mention of the fact that the cap does not merely slide on to grip the barrel by friction, as with so many other pen models.

    Who reverse writes and why would anyone do this given that the pen is not actually designed to do this? Great reviews btw David...I'm addicted and I have bought both an M600 and and M1000....I'm going to have to blame you I'm afraid, or I'm going to get it in the neck...I say this with a great a great deal of friendly humour! All the best from the UK!

      Many folks use reverse writing when drawing, so they can achieve a different line width with the same pen and ink.

    I rather like Pelikan pens and must admit to hosting a moderately sized flock of them from a vintage 400NN to an M800 and including the 205. Still, for my hand the M600 is probably about perfect. While the M800 is a better fit unposted, I tend to post my pens and the cap rests against my hand right where you show the M600 hitting yours. It's neither painful nor even noticeable except for one thing -- while writing the flex of my hand tends to knock the cap off post.

    Thanks for the review!! This isn't directly specifically at you, but just a general rant: I wish that when folks do size comparison of a Pelikan, they would show it compared to pens besides other Pelikans. It'd be very helpful to throw in another pen that is a bit more common (A Lamy 2000 or Safari, a TWSBI, etc.)

      +C40 Thanks for the feedback. I know Matt at The Pen Habit does a good job of usually comparing pens to other common models. I don't have too many reviews where I have done comparisons. When I do in the future, I'll try to keep this in mind.

      +Joshua Greenman I could be mistaken, but I believe it is gold filled...a technique where gold is placed on top of a base metal...usually brass.

    How much did you pay for the M600, I just want to have a better understanding of the price range so that I can define if I'm over paying or under paying thanks

    • @FigbootonPens
      @FigbootonPens  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The currently retail around $400. But the price on Pelikans can vary greatly, depending on the source.

    • @TheRealJanKafka
      @TheRealJanKafka 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The M600 seems to have a suggested retail price of $550 in the USA, selling for $440 to $450 if they aren't 'special' or 'limited' editions. I couldn't find one for less anywhere in the world other than the UK. The dealer from whom I bought mine was running a special around Christmas, so I got an extra ten per cent off their regular price (which was far lower than the US asking price). I ended up paying something around $224 if I recall correctly. Still an exorbitant amount of money for a pen, if you ask me. If a TWSBI Diamond 580 sells for $50, the Pelikan M600 shouldn't go for more than $120. Other than trim, the pens don't seem to be all that much different in construction and performance.

      I was just looking at an m400 If you or anyone else is interested. Pen Chalet has one left in a fine nib, black/blue body. The fine writes closer to a medium from what I've been reading. The m400 and m600 are very similar and with their coupon it'll run you around $280. Just sign up for there ink rewards and you'll be emailed some coupons.

      @SahilGulati8 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sam Primrose Some eiditions will have two-tone nibs while some will have monotone rhodium plated nibs.
      The Stresman for example has a monotone nib while the normal M805 has a two tone nib.
      Similarly the 625s have a silver nib whereas 605s have dual tone.

      It would make sense for the instructions leaflet to be translated in Japanese when the pen is retailed in Japan, would it not? I think that is probably the case.

    I think I need to put one of these on my wish list. I've heard a lot about the M series, not always favourably, but your example looks enticing. My only Pelikans so far are Pelikanos, a Twist and a P480L, all of which I pretty much hate. They all need a whole load of force to fit a converter or cartridge, and this combined with the joyless writing experience hasn't warmed my heart or given me a sense of loyalty to the brand. That's in marked contrast to how I feel about Lamy, Pilot and Parker, of which I own many at different price points, entry level to midrange, contemporary and vintage. The Pelikan M series are obviously completely different animals to their siblings, those nasty little lumps of annoyingly useless plastic, so I'm sure there would be no comparison between these families. I can't shake a doubt at the back of my mind but I think I can get past that.

    Please, put some sound dampening panels(the egg box sponge looking things) on your walls and, staggered like a chessboard, about 35 to 40% coverage will suffice, a carpet on the floor won't hurt either. Get a Zoom h5 with the shotgun mic attachment and record voice with that. The content is great but your audio is screwing it so, so bad.
