That’s a good blend…I just tried it for the first time a couple of months ago…delicious! I’m not the guy to ask about business, but if you open a shop with online shopping…I’ll definitely support you! As far as that shop that wouldn’t sell to you…I wouldn’t darken their door ever again! Take care brother!
I know a tobacco shop like that too! It's like it's the guys personal Cellar. The only advice I would have for a shop is, make sure you will have a local customer base within driving distance.
Retired police officer who’s been my own boss for 11yrs, including 7yrs owning a vape shop. Regulations on tobacco are ridiculous & the business owner takes the brunt of the pain. REALLY understand your local state specifics before making a decision. 100% agree us hobbyist pipers deserve dedicated space, but any 1 location there’s only going to be several dozen at best you have to honestly imagine. Online is interesting but then you’re dealing with regulations across multiple jurisdictions & there will be some hard decisions affecting your risk profile & profits. I’ve been thinking about a pipe shop for several years now lol.
My own b&m is in my bad books too but for a different reason! I go elsewhere now myself.... Opening a shop is a big step to counter them!

Guess I'm on the same wavelength as you today because I went to my local B & M to get some Sansepolceo...picked up the last tin. I have 2 Brick and Mortar stores here in SLC UT that don't capitulate to bullshit or out of state people wanting Esoterica. They put the stuff in the shop and you go to them to get it and they have all the limited stuff pretty regularly these days. The Tinder Box and Jeanie's Smoke Shop. I'm not sure that either of these stores hide anything for anyone behind counters, possibly..
Make sure to have an online presence so we can order too!
Also, I feel you with the pipe representation part. I live in Central FL, which is just cigar country, so we have lots of cigar shops, but not one pipe shop. I like cigars, too, so that's nice, but man, I'd love to get some tins at a local shop somewhere.

I'd love to purchase form an Ohio pipe shop. Not much in the CLE other than stuck up pretentious cigar shops.

Taxation and regulation makes tobacco B&Ms near impossible, even more so for only pipe centered shops. There's not enough margin on pipe tobacco after all the taxes to make much money. Cigars can get priced higher so the margins are better, which is why every B&M focuses on cigars. When it comes to pipe smoking, the money is in selling pipes - they have much better margins.

It’s pretty common, they use their discount from the distributor to buy, and then they keep it for themselves. It’s about selling later on. It’s shit. But that’s what it is. Most hobby businesses are like that.

I am in the Huntington WV area so not to far from you but I’d gladly come support your business. As a pipe and cigar smoker who hates buying online and much prefers supporting local B&M I would kill for a pipe centered tobacconist.

If you’re anywhere near the Dayton area, you’ll be able to find it.
they make way to many small batches, we stopped reviewing most of them, but some are good.
Montes pipe and cigar in Alb has some and usually has the blends that gets sold out online if you ever need something let me know, were opening up a pipe and cigar shop here in Moriarty NM.
Monte’s is where I ordered my tin from. Matt always took care of me and still does to this day.

I would never go back to that shop. Plus I'd let people know that he does this.
If he knows about pipe tobacco - he's hoping to gouge for a higher price in the future after it's aged? That's a B&M that may not last. Or he's buying at a wholesale price and selling it on the side.

Sounds like this guy is waiting for other stores to sell out and then he will raise his prices on it. If this was me I would put the name of his store and tell people to stay away.

I get your point but it’s like leaving a review. As for a store you will have to be fully committed plus the sale of tobacco products in the future keep smoking and speaking your reviews ❤
its very much the cigar shop mindset, dont sell the desireable stuff to get people to come in and buy other stuff, then peddle it to the highest bidder en masse
