There is a huge appetite for full project builds on TH-cam. They seem to have been popular a few years ago and of course the TH-cam machine started making everyone do those bullshit tool comparisons/temu ordered/other nonsense, and it is such a shame. I appreciate your commitment to making the videos you want to make, because we want to see them. Nevermind what the algorithm wants, you can influence a whole Renaissance of algorithm bullshittery. Thanks David.
Morning. In nearly 5 decades of woodworking, I have given away nearly everything I ever made, except for the furniture/cabinetry in my home. But, I saved my favorite piece. It's a small bandsaw box that I made freehand. No plans or drawings. I had a small chunk of spalted pecan from a tree and I let it do it's thing in the saw. It has an integral wooden hinge that is cut into the wood. I still don't know how I did it. Fools everyone who looks at it. God Bless us all. Keep dreaming. Happy Thanksgiving.
This project sent me on a Rollercoaster of emotion. I had no idea where this was going and I loved it. From a random log, to "just another bandsaw box", to an odd alien spaceship looking floor box, to a wall hanging box eaten by burl, to an amazing piece of art. This blew me away dude and I love the finished piece. Keep up the great work.
I am in absolute awe of how this tree turned out. I think everyone marker has pieces we save for those special moments. You, sir, picked the perfect moment to use yours! It is stunning.
that combo is so weird. i love it! the way you took a hard left when you saw the burl and made it wall hanging is good sign to not give up on an idea if it can be tweaked
Dude… this is freaking awesome. I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't dig this. It was a surprising turn - really creative. The sort of thing I look at and think, "Wow. I would never think to do that." Which is exactly the type of video it's important to watch! Thanks, Dave. Cheers!
Stunning piece of art, David! I have your bandsaw box book, which I picked up at one of my visits to a local Rockler store. It looks like you may have to make a Volume 2 and add this as the cover art. Keep up the great work; your passion for woodworking shows in videos like these.
Adding the burl to the box, made the box go over the top; and that’s a good thing David. Kind of reminds me of old cypress clocks that I used to make. I used cypress cut from the bottom of the tree which gave it its design and they were real popular in Florida in the 80’s. I’m going to have to get your book. All these years in wood working and I’ve never made a bandsaw box.
Wow David this was an amazing video. Was wondering what you would do with this bandsaw box the legs were a different idea. But that burl turned it into something amazingly beautiful and you adding the burl cutoffs to the bandsaw box for me sent it over the top. Such an amazing piece of art. 👏👏👏👏 keep up the great videos. As a new woodworker you are so inspiring and make me want to learn more about this craft everyday. Thank you for sharing your passion and talents.
I've watched your videos for a long time because you take us through the creative process with you. This is by FAR the best video and project. Thanks for inspiring me to be creative. I also like the dualism here. Expensive piece from a lumber store and the log on the side of the road.
I’ve been watching your videos for about 8 years now, and I don’t comment often. But I gotta tell you, this is some gorgeous art that I’m thinking about the day after even
I've gotta be honest: I didn't think I was going to like it when you pulled out that burl and explained your vision. But holy Moses, that turned out awesome. I love it! Keep up the great work, my dude.
Stunning! This is frickin awesome! That hickory log was a beautiful surprise. I love how the burl looks like it's consuming the box, like some sort of invasive alien or fungus. Very cool!
Great video. Thanks for sharing this! I started watching because of the title and I’m intrigued and inspired by ban saw boxes! Thanks for that! Keep up the awesome videos.
This turned out amazing. When I listened to the podcast it was hard to picture what you were describing. I think this is an unmitigated success. My favorite art piece of yours I’ve seen yet.
This is absolutely awesome. Your videos have been a real inspiration for me. Totally new to woodworking and always inspired by your creations. Thank you!
Damn dude, that's one of the coolest things ever. Channeled a little bit of Bob there with the problem solving while keeping it creative. Love the creative and experimental direction of the videos. I rarely watch any makers to copy them but to get inspired and just plain entertained and these are doing both. Thanks David!
Stunning outcome! Really appreciate how you stress the inspiration/creative aspect in woodworking. So many of us by plans and just try to get it right You continually show us that right is much more subjective
"Life is crazy and here we are" I love your videos, and that they have become positive again is so nice, as I take it as a sign of you being more in "zen". I also listen to the podcast with you, Jimmy and Bob and love it. It gets on my headphones as soon as it comes out and even though it is hard to explain to others what it is about, I still love it. And can relate to so many things you talk about. So much life wisdom in an hour a week is great. Thanks for your videos that are so inspirational and thanks for all you openedness (is that a word). Cheers from Denmark 🙂
That is, in my opinion, one of the coolest things you've made. I would hang that in my entry so it would be the first thing people saw when they came in the door. Keep up the fantastic work sir. Love your thought processes Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. Much love from the F.A.R.M.
This turned out sick! when you started cutting the shape I immediately thought, "returning to his roots, a bandsaw box!!!!" Sure enough I was right! haha! Seriously though, I really dig the design love the concept and the direction it went!
This is super cool! My woodworking journey started with a similar bandsaw resawing logs from a cherry tree in my back yard and making stuff. Making things from a log destined for the fire pit got me hooked. Soon I had a jointer and planer, then big bandsaw, then cabinet saw lol. The list goes on. That’s for being an inspiration, I love your videos!!!
I love it ……so cool. I bought your bandsaw book many years ago and made some of the boxes in it, very satisfying projects. Wish you would talk more on the Making It podcast. 👍 Enjoy your day Dave and Happy Thanksgiving to all.
I was unsure how that was going to turn out, most of the video I didn’t think I was going to care for it. Once finished, I liked it…..what a cool piece of art. The way you expanded the buckeye onto the box turned out awesome. Your videos and designs are great. Thanks!
The result is really well done. Well, David, all i can say is 'ars gratia artis'. At least that chunk of hickory was put to use! Due to my limited experience with even my own bandsaw, I would not have thought to use such a narrow blade on that big ole hunk. Slow and steady, got it! Thank you.
That turned out great, quite impressed. One of the things I do love about woodworking is how you start with an idea that may not be fully formed and seeing how it evolves into a finished piece. As a wood turner I see burls being used for projects like this and cringe because burls are perfect for turning and casting but this worked out beautifully. The pieces work together, well done. If you don't know what to do with that burl cutout I would be more than happy to work with you to get something turned from it.
I was having trouble visualizing this when you were describing it on the podcast, but it looks pretty sweet here. Love the contrast between the organic irregular burl cookie and the regular shape of the eyeball box, amd the two woods together. I continue to be impressed at what that little bandsaw can handle. Hickory aint no joke and the saw and blade seemed to deal with it easily. Glad I took your advise and got one for myself. Thanks for sharing!
I love that piece - it’s possibly my favourite ever bandsaw box. Patience is a virtue - especially when using the bandsaw. Unfortunately, although I’m usually quite a patient person, I often find myself forcing wood through the bandsaw much faster than I should be . . . and then having to spend time replacing the blade, making it just as long and more expensive. I know I won’t have the patience to make a bandsaw box, although I do like them very much. Maybe one day . . . maybe . . . one day . . .
It's lots of work but taking a "worthless" piece of firewood and makeing something cool and beautiful from it is super satisfying. My wife and I try to make everything with as much reclaimed materials as possible. Everything from bed frames and coffee tables to little butter knives for me. Mostly from palleets but I also can't help saving pieces of logs to save. I have.... lots lol. Awesome project!!! I was excited when you were talking about puttling legs on the box. It would have been a cool War of the worlds tripod kind of deal. This is better lol. I actually think this might be one of the most beautiful things you've ever made!!
This came out so cool... nice work man, and loved the integration and how the piece progressed in the video. Thanks for taking us along on that ride! (and, for sharing with us on Patreon, Bandsaw box plans! Christmas came early!)
That looks amazing. I have always liked your videos. There have been one or two that were just ok, but the new ones are phenomenal. I also found Jimmy, Bob, and Making it through your channel. Keep up the good work! Wish more videos were just honest like yours.
Woah! Didn’t realize the size of this when you talked about it on the podcast. Amazing work as always. Just what I needed to get me motivated on a Sunday
Sometime in the past, you had a second channel. Around the time you published your first book, you published a video mentioning a one-month Non Complaining Challenge. I’m not even sure if that video is still available. I believe the video was published in Summer 2018 or so. But that single video changed my life for the better, in ways I couldn’t even imagine at the time. I remember liking the simplicity of the concept. “I can certainly try that and see what happens.” It amazed me because I was at a bad point in my life. And stopping complaining gave me so much clarity. I had an inner voice that was constantly negative. I was weighing myself down 24/7! It also gave me a lot of agency. You mentioned your book and I remember you saying you had no way to prove anything you were saying, but you could show email exchanges between you and your wife to prove what you were saying. I can’t prove anything to you, but this is a humble comment to say that I’ll be forever grateful for you and that video. Today’s video really sent me down memory lane. I never had the chance to say anything to you. Thanks, David! And happy Thanksgiving ❤
Oh wow, thank you! The no complaining challenge came from a book called "Secrets of the Millionaire Mind". That challenge and that book completely changed my mindset and good things starting happening for me. Plus, I think I became a more pleasant person to be around. Reading your comment just made my day and sent me down memory lane. So, thank you! ❤️

this may be the most artistic piece you've put up on YT. Adding the burl slice to the bandsaw box lid was the game changer. Bravo.

sometimes the small projects are the most special. Happy Thanksgiving!

thank you thank you!
This is so cool!!! I love it when a project takes a turn forcing you to make design choices and it ends up way better because of it
This project will forever watch you as you make your way to Mordor.
I am in absolute awe of how this tree turned out. I think everyone marker has pieces we save for those special moments. You, sir, picked the perfect moment to use yours! It is stunning.

Using that burl was a great inspiration. Love it. I've made several bandsaw boxes form your plans and the people who have them love them.
The burl slice on the bandsaw is the perfect touch for this piece! Really outdid yourself with this one 🙌🙌
You are an artist! This transcends woodworking!
❤️
Stunning piece of art, David! I have your bandsaw box book, which I picked up at one of my visits to a local Rockler store. It looks like you may have to make a Volume 2 and add this as the cover art. Keep up the great work; your passion for woodworking shows in videos like these.

Dave, I love your workshop. It’s such a great space for creativity. Also, that piece is a work of art.
I absolutely love this! When you took the burl off-cuts and put them on the box, it was a big OMG moment.
As a former graphic artist, newbe woodworker, 70+ yr old woman, l love your creativity....it is so inspiring.
Stunning! Beautiful work, interesting ideas and creativity. Love the direction you've taken with your art. So cool!

I thought not just another bandsaw box and then wow! definitely not just another bandsaw box. Well done, Sir.
Great video. Thanks for sharing this! I started watching because of the title and I’m intrigued and inspired by ban saw boxes! Thanks for that! Keep up the awesome videos.
Great project as always!
It was your videos and the purchase of your bandsaw box book that got me started in woodworking.
That looks amazing! I love that detail you added where the burl is washing over/invading the hickory.
This turned out amazing. When I listened to the podcast it was hard to picture what you were describing. I think this is an unmitigated success. My favorite art piece of yours I’ve seen yet.
Fantastic. You knocked it out of the park on this one.
I like how this project developed and changed from the first idea to the final result 👏
This is absolutely awesome. Your videos have been a real inspiration for me. Totally new to woodworking and always inspired by your creations. Thank you!
wow. that is amazing. easily my favorite piece that i've ever seen you make. incredible. kudos sir
Holy Moses! David, I love this one! One of my favorite all your art pieces. Thank you.
Love the bandsaw box and the buckeye burl looks great with it. Love your ideas you come up with. Someday id definitely like to try a bandsaw box
love the free spirit of the box, it is always nice if you let the material bring out the beauty!
Damn dude, that's one of the coolest things ever. Channeled a little bit of Bob there with the problem solving while keeping it creative. Love the creative and experimental direction of the videos. Love this one David! Those aha moments mid project are the absolute best feeling!!
Wow... Just... WOW! 😮
Truly amazing work, Dave! That's a work of art!!!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

Woah, that thing looks amazing, David! Your builds and designs are just getting better and better!
Love love love how the project changed throughout. Fantastic piece!
Wow! Fantastic! I love how you incorporated the burl, without drastically changing it. Thanks for sharing.
Actually had to rewind a few times to watch how you pulled this off. Completely ridiculous. Well done!
Terrific work on that bandsaw box and that is one outstanding piece David! Well done! 👍👍
Wow David! Creative and beautiful! Well done sir!
Absolutely staggering! I'm genuinely speechless at how this turned out. Yer crushin' it Dave!
That is, in my opinion, one of the coolest things you've made. I would hang that in my entry so it would be the first thing people saw when they came in the door.
Keep up the fantastic work sir.
Love your thought processes
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
Much love from the F.A.R.M.
Love it! The progression of the project, being open to going in different directions to the final results. I think its looks awesome!! Great job!!
Great choices all around, it looks great! Adding the burl veneer at the end really elevated the design.
My favorite pieces are your art pieces. Love your creativity.
🙏
This turned out sick! when you started cutting the shape I immediately thought, "returning to his roots, a bandsaw box!!!!" Sure enough I was right! haha! Seriously though, I really dig the design love the concept and the direction it went!
Dude! WoW! Gorgeous piece! You had me guessing the whole way and it turned out magnificent my good friend! 🍻
When I heard you describe this on the podcast, I had a completely different image in my head. This came out amazing! Well done sir.
This is super cool! My woodworking journey started with a similar bandsaw resawing logs from a cherry tree in my back yard and making stuff. I think it is your best work with a bandsaw yet.
I love these videos. Seeing the process and the incredibly creative things you design is always exciting. I love it, the burl is beautiful.
Fantastic! Love the Burl Wood integration, it looks Amazing!! 🔥
🔥 *An Incredible Art Piece* 🔥👍🏻
I think your bandsaw book was the first woodworking book I ever purchased myself. No Ragerts.
Absolutely beautiful and so creative! You inspire in all you do.
Really not sure what to say about this post. I am simply amazed on how this all turned out. Just memorizing and beautiful at the same time.😊
WOWOWOW Hands down my favorite piece you have ever made absolutely stunning
You might consider painting the ends with Anchorseal to prevent cracking and checking as the wood dries.
I love it ……so cool. I bought your bandsaw book many years ago and made some of the boxes in it, very satisfying projects. Wish you would talk more on the Making It podcast. 👍 Enjoy your day Dave and Happy Thanksgiving to all.
Absolutely beautiful! Watching you create things like this was well worth the cost of subscribing. lol

I love this!! Also loving the new format to the channel. Keep up the great work.
LOVE IT! It definitely looks like the tree has grown around and swallowed the box, it’s ace!
I have two of your books and they are great inspiration.
This wall hanging box is fantastic!
Thank you.
Seriously awesome how that turned out. I’m guessing that it will make the cut and won’t be relegated to the rental house.
It’s these kind of projects that keep me going when the day to day brings you down. Thanks for sharing dude 🤙
This is a stunning piece of art! Fantastic work!!
One of your best instructional & coolest outcome. Love the burl.
I love that piece - it’s possibly my favourite ever bandsaw box.

@@MakeSomething Thank you for the content!
Awesome work. I heard you talking about this on Making It. I was excited before and even more impressed now😁. Art for sure.
Amazing. Not controversial for me, it is a work of art and I ❤ it.
Wow! You really nailed this piece.
That looks amazing. I have always liked your videos. There have been one or two that were just ok, but the new ones are phenomenal. I also found Jimmy, Bob, and Making it through your channel. Keep up the good work! Wish more videos were just honest like yours.
❤️
Love how you just let this idea flow
Woah! Didn’t realize the size of this when you talked about it on the podcast. Amazing work as always. Just what I needed to get me motivated on a Sunday
So satisfying when you don't have to buy lumber but still find nice free wood!😀
Oh! Nice TV/VCR combo. I would like to find one , one day.
Wow, that’s a wild piece! Thanks for sharing!
Sometime in the past, you had a second channel. Around the time you published your first book, you published a video mentioning a one-month Non Complaining Challenge.

It also gave me a lot of agency. Responsibility for my own choices and their consequences.
I had so much mental bandwidth released! It was a huge relief. And it freed me to do more and live much better.
You mentioned your book and I remember you saying you had no way to prove anything you were saying, but you could show email exchanges between you and your wife to prove what you were saying.

That came out great! Nice job - very creative
I bought your bandsaw book and made most of them. Very nice.
Classic Picciuto !!! Looks amazing
That is an awesome piece of work, thanks for sharing your your tips and videos
What a great instructive video! Thanks and stay safe. Nicely done!
