    Good rough guide. I just installed this kit onto my gen1 700 5r in .308. In addition to what this fella did, I had to dremel the magazine at the front and back a bit to get it seating properly as it was interfering with the receiver at the rear and under the feed ramp. This is with the factory HS Precision stock. Feeding is fine. Extraction is a bit stiff but I'm sure it will break in. So far I can recommend this upgrade.

    I did the same grinding off with those two tabs front and rear. I modified my factory plastic SPS stock. All worked well. Still hunting with my two factory plastic stocks these days. Life is Good!! Magpul makes good stuff! Peace Be The Journey!

    Maybe not the best video I've ever seen but truly helpful. I now know absolutely that there's no way I'd install this part on my rifle. There's a reason the legit companies charge more than $30 for a bottom metal.

    • @CountryRock2k1
      @CountryRock2k1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This bottom metal is originally designed to work with the magpul 700 hunter stock. It's not drop-in for anything else, hence the modification needed to make it work.

      @gtrul3s387 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Will Robinson it works well if it's better for you lol. Keep in mind that the original stock is not the better one for accuracy. It's fine for what i do with it.

      @willrobinson9575 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gt Rul3s Thanks for the reply. As long as it works, thats good enough for me. As far as accuracy goes , the original stock will do just fine for me too.

    I did this to my Remington 700 SPS Tactical with the original Hogue molded stock recently. Once installed my bolt made contact with the top of the magazine. I had to shim between the bottom metal and rifle stock with a washer to drop the mag down just slightly. Just in case anyone runs into that...

    Nothing looks better on a nice rifle than a polymer trigger guard (eye roll).
    Been through two polymer "bottom metal" setups. One for a savage 110, and one for a howa 1500 after the howa plastic bottom metal cracked while i was torquing the action screws with a torque driver. Both of my aftermarket polymer bm cracked at the center action screw. Shims on the back did not prevent the cracking. Threw all three in the trash, bought CDI actual metal bottom metal, and haven't looked back.

    I did this with my Bell & Carlson stock. But, I left the vertical magazines guides! The rear one leave alone, front one cut down to just rest on top of bedding block. On the rear one! Just remove the tang behind the guide. In doing this, it clears the bridge of the bedding block. You only have to bevel the bridge a small amount to clear. Go extremely slow, and check and check some more before taking off material. I ended up with a super close to factory look. And my magazines have support front to rear and function perfect. To get that nice clean close fit! Final fit with a file and sandpaper. Just my two cents.

    Great video on "rough opening" install of this bottom metal magazine. Even better with your GoPro view. Hell, you even showed your imperfections which to me, is really nothing to worry about...my rifle is a nice tool and small imperfections make her more beautiful. Thanks for the tip about the Timney flat trigger issue...I have the Timney Calvin Elite flat trigger. I can probably see this going to happen on my R700. Still deciding between a few different bottom metal magazine companies. Thanks a lot for this video. Subscribed to you, my friend.

    I've been thinking about doing this but my stock on my rem 700 doesn't have bottom metal. I wish there was more info on milling it out to fit bottom metal. I don't want to ruin my stock either considering I fiberglass bedded and freefloated it myself and after all that time and work if hate to end up throwing it away

If you need more then 3-5rd you really need a semi auto for that type of engagement. I do like the ability to reload quickly in the hunt but it not that much faster them me slinging 4 more rds into the well.

    Hey bvnightmare Thanks for the great video! Since they announced the hunter 700 stock and bottom metal at shot show I have been wondering if it is possible to install their bottom metal into my Bell and Carlson stock. This video does a very good job explaining it but I am wondering if you could send me some more detailed pictures of the inside of the stock and bottom metal how you have it set up now and some pictures of how the original bottom metal fits into the inletted stock. Maby even do another video more detailed of how it turned out and a closeup of the inside of the stock and bottom metal of how it is set up now. That would be super sweet I am so happy that someone had the nuts to take a $300 dollar stock and go dremel at it and try to get this bottom metal to fit and work and i love it! Thanks again dude... dkorzo1 they are all metal as far as the Magpul ones

      bvhnightmare Thank you. I'm still to find a metal Magpul mag well. Brownell, Midway they all are coming up as a polymer. The only metal ones I have found are by Surgeon, Badger, or HS Precision.

      @bvhnightmare  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      dkorzo1 I am sorry I misspoke in my previous comment Magpul only manufacturers polymer bottom units I have found through hundreds of rounds with the Magpul in my Remington 700 that it is just as good or better as the metal bottom metals

      Not for accuracy!
      Just to fill the cracks. It would bother me every time I saw it if it was on my rifle 🤓

    The Magpul Kit Magazine kit is specifically made for the Magpul Hunter 700 Stock. You can buy a kit from Legacy Sports that does not require any modifications. I bought mine from there and it fits perfect and no mods were required for fitment. I've had mine for about 2 months now. I've put 50 rounds through it and it works like a charm. No slack. fits like a glove. and worth it.

    • @bvhnightmare
      @bvhnightmare  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      that is true Legacy Sports does make a bottom metal kit for the Remington 700 but the plastic quality compared to Magpul is poor also I do not like the way their magazine release system is setup the Magpul bottom metal allows me to run Accuracy International magazines, the Legacy Sports magazine is a good option if you do not want to modify your stock

    you don't have to do all that advance technology industries makes. a magazine conversion kit for Remington short action cal 223,204,308, 22-250 drop in ready only $99.00

    • @bvhnightmare
      @bvhnightmare  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are several things I do not like about the ATI. 1: the mag release is in front of the magazine, if you do any sort of barricade work you will drop your mag. Also the mag release is flimsy 2, it is not compatible with AICS mags. 3, there is no metal reinforcement on the bolt holes so improper torque will be applied to your action thus causing accuracy issues.
      just not what I was looking for.

    • @CJRKENT7697
      @CJRKENT7697 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      bvhnightmare and to add to that, the magazines follower in the ATI need to be sanded and the polymer is crap

      SP-ATech thanks man I hunt with my rifle so I like the lightweight Hogue. I haven't seen much info on it I'm curious if sanding or taking a dremel to the end of it would fix this. I can't afford to mess up my stock so I'm just waiting to see somebody else do it
