Reading the comments, I've gotta say people have really been spoiled by the whole DSLR video revolution that the 5D MKII kicked off. Having video is a great feature, but this is primarily a stills camera. Nitpicking about cropped 4k, frame rates and codec is really starting to sound like the whining of spoiled children at this point. History has shown us that all-in-one solutions are never as good as dedicated tools for specific tasks...horses for courses as they say.
Honestly, if you're that serious about video here's a novel idea some of you obviously haven't considered: invest in an actual video/cinema camera.
Video is part of my skillset also, that's why I bought a C100 mkII and a BMPCC. Anyone actually doing contract video work knows that clients rarely ask for 4k...it's usually the people who think 4k is going to make them the next Scorsese that place such a high value on it.

I understand the concept of having flexibility in post but I'm more of the opinion that great pre-planning, preparation and getting it right in camera to begin with offsets most needs for it. If that makes me dumb in your opinion, so be it. I think religiously shooting everything in 4K and having to deal with the increased storage needs, and longer processing and delivery times, all for the sake of having a safety net in post, is dumb.
I definitely get the extra gear part of it, nobody likes more weight to carry...but your comment about doubling your expense for people who can't tell the difference is another justification for NOT shooting 4K, or at the very least not considering it a make-or-break feature when considering purchasing a full-frame mirrorless stills camera that also shoots a bit of video...that also happens to be smaller and lighter.
For me it looks more like.. hey we are canon, we know your needs better than you. Take this 3 years old sensor for more than the competitors and be happy with it. we own the patents to hide technology not to develope new stuff.

RealityBitesShit Stupid would be showing up to a paid gig without a second camera, for emergency/backup purposes alone...also pretty unprofessional. When your all-in-one, "full" featured camera craps out on a shoot, gets dropped/knocked over, your memory card gets corrupted, or any other mishap Murphy's Law decides to throw your way, how does having 4K help? Again, proper planning and execution is a far better advantage than having 4K or any other feature on a camera. You do what works for you though, it's all good.

Ah! Where's the 1080p @ 120fps? Waited on the Canon mirrorless release to see if we can stick with Canon, but it seems like we might need to consider the switch to the Sony A7iii.
We didn’t ask for much...just 1080 @ 120fps and IBIS...was it too much?? After all this time we didn’t go far.

Agree. Only 1080 at 120fps. Most canon switch to sony and panasonic because canon can shoot only 60fps.
Even Nikon added IBIS. I was thinking of maybe switching back to Canon again for the glass but looks like I'm staying with Sony for now. Canon (&Nikon) just aren't willing to let go of their full size dslr bodies. Can't let the mirrorless outshine them, even though that's the direction the market is going.
With that price point, you would have expected these features. Even m5 had IBIS and they hv been using 60fps max frame rate for 7 yrs now. I am so disappointed and this is s’posed to be the pro model.
Arent canon user always boasting how great and better lens IS compare to IBIS...canon just dont want its fans swallowing their own spit...
I'm really disappointed that 4K is still available only with a 1.6 crop. I know that is a photocamera but you could have taken the whole market.
i think they still struggling pairing full frame coverage with the dualpixel. either they cripple the AF or crop, they choose with crop.

This camera together with the new 28-70mm lens (660g+1430g) will weigh more than 5DM4 + Tamron 24-70mmG2 lens (890g+905g). The later is still a better combination.
Since i only take stills, i have to say i love this new canon cam. Would have wanted it though i know its outside my price range

Sufian Al Atrash you can’t use the same mount for a mirrorless camera as a DSLR, the length from sensor to camera is different due to no mirror being present in the camera body.

28-70mm f2 lens is a game changer
This camera was a gift about 4 years ago, and justu.faith/CanonCamera?司 I still love it! This camera is inexpensive for a digital SLR, and it wonderful for a novice photographer or as a back up camera for a more experienced photographer. The lenses are interchangeable between this and the other Canon SLR cameras, giving it incredible range and versatility.

I want a 1DX Mark 2 but with limitless recording to external recorders. I don’t want the cinema line, I don’t want the 1DX Mark 2... I want BOTH. Enough with all the new gadgets when I have so much Canon glass already fully invested... can Canon stop trying to force me into either the DSLR, Mirrorless, or cinema line? I’ve dropped a lot over time in canon bodies...
I think it’s time Canon allows a 24+ MP body that does great 4K but doesn’t limit it to 30 min - allows recording to external monitors that have 1TB etc... in proper file forms... without having to make me choose between 1DX MK2 or C200 etc... trying to make me have to buy both ... I’d rather drop $6-8 grand on one camera that does both spectacularly and use all the glass I’m already heavily invested in... And so would others.
Each camera falls short instead of getting all I need at a price point I’d be willing to spend
Rather than over-expanding lines.., why not offer a few spectacular cameras that do limitless video recording and outstanding image quality
I can’t just ask people to stop speaking live with the 1DX mark 2 at 30 minute mark, and Shooting photos of a wedding with the C200 isn’t an option
$6-8 grand and marry them both in a spectacular way. I can’t be alone. You wouldn’t be competing against your own lines and ruining profits... you’d be keeping me from considering other brands

i dint know why, i loe the ad. I also love mirrorless no matter what brand. Even if it doesnt fit my need. Mirrorless makes me somehow creative and gives me the fun to shoot not matter if professional or not. I woner what panasonic will come up with.

The lenses are the best part. Forget the camera. When the Sony A7S3 comes out, with these lenses; the combo is unmatchable to date.

Used to own a 5d mark ii, then 5diii, then canon c100, that was years ago, and STILL theres no 120fps, and its 4k crop. Sure the stills will be nice and all but man im so glad I made the move to the a7iii and didn't wait around. I bet the dynamic range on the stills wont be as good either, or the battery life. I really think canon have lost a-lot of people, including me. And its one card slot which is totally unusable for weddings. Why didnt they just dominate the market and add all of those things, and IBIS, so many missing parts.
hello i just shoot wedding with 5dii last week, along with my 1dx ii, my 5dii works well until now, so 1 card slot unuseable is nonsense. LOL ,
in the future mirorless and dslr will go along , they will be a good combo, cause on papper mirorless seems to be better than dslr, but in real life, it is argueable.
canon is not the first to produce dlsr, but now they are no 1 dslr, same with the mirorless system, even now canon is no 1 non fullframe mirorless
with canon Dslr and its L lensess you get the best result from still and video. but with sony to get the best result you can only get the best if you use the GM lines, so most people will end up using canon or others third brand lensess with an adapter for cheaper cost.
sony mirorless system maybe good, but i have heard some problem that sonyfanboy encounter like the af system doesnt work well in low light condition, banding issue LOL. it never happen to my 5dii and 1dxii
imho canon is much better than sony, starting from the lensess range, DPAF, durability, water and dust proof or resitant, more ergonomic than mirorless, color science, skin tone, flip screen, now the adapter for mirorless eos R can use filter too.
eos R is not perfect, but it is the first model of its line, but its pretty good enough, wait until some one buy it, use it, and make some review on youtube,
for me , i am still waiting for better eos mirorless, maybe the eos Rii or may be the pro level that rumor say will be available in nov or des 18
and i have seen sony a7iii video footage, they really looks very awfull imho, it has a lot greenies color cast under fluoresence light , need more work to be done in comp than canon footage, and the video quality is not as good as canon.
so sony a7iii is value for money camera, but interm of build quality, ergonomic, easy to use, the out of camera footage, and to get the end result you must done more post proccessing in komp than canon system, sorry to, sony is not good enough imho.

Frankly speaking, as a Canon user since 2012 somehow I am disappointed with Canon, think about Nikon but finally switched to Sony mirrorless and telling you the truth, now I am really very happy.

So weird the “no ibs, no ff 4K, no 120 FPS” butt hurt... I had just watched some old posts people had making movies with the 5D3. Some pretty amazing stuff. No ibs, no 120fps. Just amazing stuff. Not even AF, you had to manually focus back then! I would have killed for dual pixel AF back then.
When you consider that atomos recorders need a fan to cool down the 4K transcoding and recording, it’s a miracle we get any 4K in these bodies...
...and did we forget, we are getting the “three sisters” at f2.8 with IS this year? 15-35, 24-70, 70-200? And in 2020, ibis?
