Love hearing you go over all the terms of operant and classical conditioning. While these terms and methods make sense, the ways in which they are executed (in common methods) to reduce behavorial problems is most certainly long. Reminds me of how you take negatively reactive dogs and choose to let them meet other dogs rather than sitting out in a field miles away and treating the dog. While not everyone has access to such willing, good dogs and people; your methods are certainly a lot more realistic and attainable than most.
My parents bread Rottweiler back in the 1980s we got them from Austria and Germany we fully socialize and basic trained leash obedience them before they were purchased by a law enforcement agency that training got the price we were asking!
Great video, I am sure these dogs assigned themselves the job to bark visitors from the beginning as the behaviour had not been modified. These are beautiful working animals, but they need to know what their "job" is and how to do it.
I moved from suburban New York to rural Virginia on 12/15/2023. I have three dogs (a black Labrador, a rescue Shepard mix, a rescue Boxer/Pitbull mix). I have a large fenced-in yard where my dogs can have freedom. I love to walk by myself or with my dogs. Unfortunately, many people who live near me have their dogs loose on their property unattended. So, over dozens of times, six different dogs have run up to us. Thank God no problems have occurred yet. Speaking of Rottweilers, I had a scary encounter with two of them. On Easter 2024, I walked by myself very far from my house... Upon returning home being far away, I was on a road where cars drive by fast... I was walking past a house with quite a bit of acreage... I saw two massive Rottweilers playing from the distance on the property... They saw me as I was walking, and they came charging at me (they did not bark nor growl)... I then instantly tried to relax, walk peacefully, and mind to myself... When they got closer to me, they slowed down and positioned themselves on my right and left sides, about 7 feet from me... I kept glancing at my left and right sides to see if they were going to do anything malicious... They followed me like this for a minute, and they eventually stopped on their neighbor's property just standing in place looking at me as I walked farther in the distance (never barked or growled)... One of them almost got hit by a car because, upon returning to its property, it walked in the middle of a busy road... When they returned home, I was so relieved that I was in one piece, but at the same time the realization that it could have gone bad set in... I no longer go anywhere near that house... When I do walk, I constantly check my surroundings. By the way, I love your channel, and I have utilized methods of yours for my dogs. I notice a tremendous difference between the three of them. In addition, I watch your videos on dog body language, which has been useful for the times when some dogs have approached us when we walk. For me, dog body language is difficult for me to keep track of. Recently, I was walking my boxer/pit mix, and a dog I had never seen before ran to us... We stopped, and they were sniffing each other, especially each other's butts (okay, good sign)... Then this dog's face leaned and got directly in front of my dog's face, and they were staring into each other's eyes for a duration standing still (Ah, oh, that does not look good)... I then yelled "Hey" at this dog, took a stomp forward, and yelled "Get out of here" with my arm pointed to have the dog go away... The dog looked at me and returned to its property. So, I act assertively when I feel it is necessary during these annoying situations of random dogs getting loose. I am always trying to learn and improve working with my dogs and to learn and to improve how to handle situations with loose dogs in our presence. Looking forward to new videos.
They are similar to training a doberman, but you actually have to show rotties some strength and resistance or they don't respect you at all. Power is their language.
Swimming is a very physical activity, and a relatively simple one in terms of factors. There's you, water, and air. If the water tries to get between you and the air too much, you beat it up to get it out of your way. Someone could explain theory to you all day, talk about buoyancy and the axis of movement and translating muscle power into momentum and so on, but you will never fully understand until you're actually doing it. Unlike dogs, though, water doesn't have a lot of complicated behaviors and reactions that you have to account for even when you're just starting out (assuming you're in a pool, and not in a natural body of water with currents and wind action and other things). :D
My Rottie came from a dry area, never seen pools of water. My pond was covered with duckweed, he thought it was grass and walked out in it! Never laughed so hard as he tried to walk on it,,😂 he loved it after that. Miss you buddy.
This was an excellent video and great method to use 100% I have a client that "rescued" a Chitcago street bite and shake dog that literally wants to take the flesh from me every time it sees me or hears me. I wish to God I could get her to use your methods. I've even offered to be the stimulus if she'd want to try. I think she's afraid that he will turn on her because he definitely does not submit to her as his boss.
@rptrick79 she's extremely wealthy and she has said that she's spent a small fortune on training him. I would assume that means at least tens of thousands of dollars and 100 lbs of hot dogs. She wouldn't have spent half of that flying out to have her dog boarded and trained properly at Joel's facility
I have to say, I've always, in all the years I've been training dogs, wanted to get the problem solved fast rather than drag it out just to make more money. Might not be the best business model, but I get to help a lot more dogs and owners that way. Love hearing another trainer say the same thing.
THIS is why society is so messed up. This guy has to be trained to discipline his dogs. This should come naturally. Imagine how terrible his children turned out.
My girl Narla, a Shollie, enjoys seeing and hearing all the dogs, but when Prince is on, that's when the paws are up on the TV stand checking her boy out. I know he can't be put in to assist with all the training, but Narla wants more Prince 😊 🐾 She looked at the Rotties and has 2 Rotties mates that she rumbles with, but it's not as interesting for her as Prince.
Excellent. I know it will never happen but I frequently wonder if we\dog owners should have to pass a test and get a licence before being allowed to own a dog. And a different licence grade depending on the dog.
Good idea but depends on who is issuing the license. If you trust the government we will end up with Zac G as head of dogland security and all Beckman fans have our dogs confiscated
The owner really needed and wanted the help and put in practice what Joel was saying. If these dogs came from the same litter that is a big problem, that began with the breeder who sold him two rottweilers out of the same liter at the same time. That is a huge no no especially with these types of dominant and aggressive dogs There is something called littermate syndrome. Raising one Rothweiler to be a behaved and good canine is hard enough why have two untrained rottweilers? It is nothing wrong with having two dogs but there must be a huge space between them like two or even three years. Otherwise, the puppies' bond with each other and less with the owner. And a lot of behavioral issues happen. I have a mixed American Pitbull who is part Corso. He is a beautiful looking dog extremely bright but high drive and dominant. Excelled guardian dog and extremely protective. But he needs a lot of training which I have been doing. He is now 3 years old, and I am going to purchase another Pitbull next year from a good breeder. It will either be a band dog or Purebred Pitbull. This breeder has been around for decades and knows his breed and they all come with papers. I watch all his TH-cam videos. So, I am really doing my research on the breed because I will be paying a lot of money. By the time I purchase the Band dog or the pure-bred American Pitbull Terrier from the breeder my current dog will be almost 4 years old. I would never buy two puppies from this breeder even though they are high quality working line dogs. The fact that there will be a four-year difference between my current dog and the puppy I will be buying next year ensures that I can avoid a lot of behavioral issues. And a puppy can take the lead from an older trained dog in the pack. It may be possible for this man to get his Rottis under control, but it is going to be a lot of work and money.
You are sure the dog understands what you want? Its not always punishment. Dogs can understand what we don’t like but you must make them understand what we do want as well.
This is such basic information but I have to keep reminding myself I've been studying dogs for years & most people dont do that, which is strange to me when they want to own such a beast of a breed lol

My old landlord had 2 rottie mixes who would go absolutely mental whenever the mailman came by. It got to the point where he started refusing to drop mail in the mailbox. I don't necessarily blame however he was completely unwilling to meet them and if he had he wouldn't have been so terrified. They were good boys.
I would explain it all using the theory of the 5 domains (which is validated also by the L.I.F.E. study). When you train a dog, you have to evaluate the dog's welfare with the 5 domains. But not only, as you say as a dog trainer you should also evaluate the owner's request and your welfare as additional domains related to your job. If a dog can't suffer stress should the owner suffer it? Is this what Force Free trainers want?
Hi Beckman I have a young male malinois that I'm having trouble with, he loads, charges, lunges, and has bit my dad and gone after other dogs on leash. I watch your videos but I know in my heart I'm not doing it correctly he is about 8 or 9 months old soon to be neutered I don't want to have a year old dog that is a menace. I can't take him to meet any dogs. Unless they are older dogs like almost elderly dogs. But then I'm still keeping him on leash with a muzzle he also hates other men that he doesn't know. I need help getting it through his head and mine how to be relaxed in public. There are more issues than this, but if I can get a full video of how he and I look and send it to you can you critique please. I'm open to your teachings no other program has worked for him.

Great video, I am sure these dogs assigned themselves the job to bark visitors from the beginning as the behaviour had not been modified. These are beautiful working animals, but they need to know what their "job" is and how to do it.
Great video as always ❤
Rotties are a handful, the amount of popularity they have is insane. Cause the vast majority of people can’t handle their nature
It's hard to resist the look of them and people often get dogs on looks alone.
They are similar to training a doberman, but you actually have to show rotties some strength and resistance or they don't respect you at all. Power is their language.
dang straight
Two untrained rottweilers around or the same age are more than a handful they are a recipe for disaster.
@cindyb5364 yeah sure ok right
As a child when dad taught me to swim , he didn’t spend a lot of time on theory. Just tossed me into the water.
@ it was a metaphor
My Rottie came from a dry area, never seen pools of water. My pond was covered with duckweed, he thought it was grass and walked out in it! Never laughed so hard as he tried to walk on it,,😂 he loved it after that. Miss you buddy.
😊 Being the boss! Had a Rottie before and you bet your ass you need to be the boss❤
This was an excellent video and great method to use 100%
I have a client that "rescued" a Chitcago street bite and shake dog that literally wants to take the flesh from me every time it sees me or hears me. I wish to God I could get her to use your methods. I've even offered to be the stimulus if she'd want to try. I think she's afraid that he will turn on her because he definitely does not submit to her as his boss.
Has she tried the super lengthy, start a mile away and work your way in while throwing treats over the course of several years method?
@rptrick79 she's extremely wealthy and she has said that she's spent a small fortune on training him. I would assume that means at least tens of thousands of dollars and 100 lbs of hot dogs.
She wouldn't have spent half of that flying out to have her dog boarded and trained properly at Joel's facility
Scary. You should not have a big dog that you're afraid of
I have to say, I've always, in all the years I've been training dogs, wanted to get the problem solved fast rather than drag it out just to make more money. Might not be the best business model, but I get to help a lot more dogs and owners that way. Love hearing another trainer say the same thing.
THIS is why society is so messed up. This guy has to be trained to discipline his dogs. This should come naturally. Imagine how terrible his children turned out.
Just out of interest does anyone know what the dog is wearing at 9:28
Our own is a weirdo he just randomly walks in to us all the time 😂
6:25 sounds like bro has been eating magic mushies. we're all just time maaaaan
Joel is amazing 🎉
gotta connect the bad behavior with the consequence
Rottys are great dogs, behind the gate they are in their own territory and the owner dosent correct or show them what he needs them to do ❤
In football we call it ' the wiggle ' !
Is there someone like you in NYC? LOL could use this.
Never occurred to me to allow a dang animal to overturn MY vote lol! I guess I was raised by an old fashioned mother who never considered it either.
If I saw those Rottweilers, I would…
Think their flippy floppy ears were cute and tell em they were good bois and girls.
Excellent.
I know it will never happen but
I frequently wonder if we\dog owners should have to pass a test and get a licence before being allowed to own a dog.
I have a four year old dog that refuses to listen and learn no matter how loud, physical and rough I am with her.
It's not about physical or rough.
When did you guys cancel the podcast?! I really miss your podcast and the videos! Am I missing something? Is there less because of your dog training program?
cause of joel's training my soon to be sister in law came over saturday and met my dog my boy sits down and lets her pet him 1st thing she say is i wish my dog was more like this im like thanks whole time thinking myself you know cause i spent (18 Monhts since november of 22 training my dog to be respectable) that if im at the dog park i tell others about joel beckman on youtube for further help so thanks to joel's training my dog generally dont go beserk , thanks to joel i have a protective labrador retriever that 1 day brought me a newborn kitten in its mouth unfortunately underdog took his last breath and crossed to heaven now underdog's in the arms of an angel now, although my dog did come over and lick the underdog new borm kitten
What is this thing that the Rottie without tail have on his body?
Hello, may i ask why you dont offer a verbal correction like "uh-uh" when you ask the dog to change with the clap.
I could have done an “ah ah” or “no”. I generally like to add that a little later then completely fade out the consequence until all we’re saying is the cue. Hope that makes sense.

@@BDTraining totally makes sense.
Not if they were going mental at a threat that wasn't there. Not good boys unless they learned to knock it off.
Good looking dogs. not to heavy
I doubt he'll see this. Maybe sign up for an online session and see then if the video will help during the session?

I want you to give those Dogs to someone who can really handle them.. :)))
Why own rotting if you don't want a deterrence. Raising the fence height would alleviate most people's concerns.
Everytime without fail. Owners need to understand that pets also need to learn to not be A**Holes. They learn from owners
Yes, I just got a pug puppy and I'm on guard against myself letting things slide now. I can't stand small dogs that ricochet off furniture and bark all the time and jump on people. But she's so damn cute I have to be stern with myself and think about how she'll be as an adult if I don't train her to behave properly.
@@squoctopus Essential training for EVERY puppy: this is how you will behave a year from now!
@@squoctopusbuying a pug is an awful thing to do
My two rotties were the best family dogs i ever had, my girl was sweeter my intact german was kinda a dick sometimes, chewed every door handle in my house so the doors permanently locked so he was able to herd me my daughter boxer and even himself. He claimed my bathroom, cold tile floor, would go in and close and lock the door behind him. My Jaegey😂❤
i been having dogs for 3 years and im still having to train my husband about basic ass commands, for years we use same commands and he STILL fucks up, like.... yeah humans are the problem not the dogs -.-
The owner is way in over his head, buying 2 Rottweilers without any experience whatsoever...
Grab it get it in a headlock. Tell him shushy. Do a rolly poll. Jobs a gooden
Whatever this means, I like it!

Why is dog wearing leg support......what's wrong??
Always not feeling safe with Rottweilers
They’re honestly one of the the best dog breeds. These probably just stay outside all damn day.
There are no bad dogs, just bad owners.
@@ExeLietuva Not even remotely true.
Lots of sketchy ones. I agree. I’ve met a handful that were awesome..but there’s too many that are bred out of standard with bad temperaments. I will say though..I don’t find them an attractive breed. It’s those beady little eyes lol
@@skillz0729I love their looks they look like big stuffed dog toys to me. Now, they can also look very intimidating with those beady eyes and big square heads.😂
lol why would anyone have dogs they don’t know how to train or control?
No Prince?? I'm outta here .lol.. Another good video
Hey dog people!
This owner doesn't know what he's doing with those dogs. He doesn't really knows how to discipline them! He's so awkward just telling them No!
Well, it's a skill, and he is learning thankfully.
Yes, me too.
No kidding. That’s the softest correction I’ve ever seen. He got a little better with time. I hope he follows through at home.
That is why the owner should have never bought two Rottweiler puppies from the same litter. That was his first big mistake.
That's why he's now learning
greetings from germany, great video but your voice over runs into clipping (just a little)
Doesn’t know how to clap his hands !
Everything’s great, Beckman just needs to be a bit more concise with providing information to owners
Forgot you probably charge by the hour
You becom pack leader when they are puppies
I mean... I understand you don't want an uncontrolled dog but if you don't want your rottweilers barking at the gate, you should probably go for a poodle.
JFC when the owner need more instruction than the canines, we're really in trouble.
The owner ALWAYS needs more instruction.
I can do this all day! (watching Joel). 🤌🏻
