    I just picked up an installed a six bike rack with my wife. We have this for a family of five. Buying in the US was great; Oregon was a bonus. This is a mom and pop business. Joe loaded the rack from his factory directly to my car. This is an in-house manufacture. And the rack is exceptionally engineered.

    Nice setup, American-made local co,. nice. Do you have to take the bikes off in order, start at end, or can you grab on in the middle ?

    • @moandhannahtravel
      @moandhannahtravel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could grab from the middle but it’s much easier to take ones off the end first. If you leave space between the bikes (if you have less than 6) that would be the best way!

    After using the rack for my family, it's not for everyone. It's probably best for mountain bikes and kids bikes. If you have panniers or fenders it's a hassle to protect them from getting damaged. Electric bikes are too heavy as it will only haul 50 pounds per rung. After the bikes are loaded you will find it's very heavy to pull the pin and pivot the rack for access to the rear doors or hatch. The rack takes two people to carry as it is heavy, so don't think that you will easily take it on and off the vehicle so we always just leave it on. I have a Chevrolet Suburban 2500. It was the best price for carrying more than four bikes as I purchased it gently used. I like that it's made in USA and it's sturdy.

    why would this be better than a north shore rack?

    • @tylerbruce5731
      @tylerbruce5731 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      One issue I can say having just started the video is the fact that the wheel is facing back which means when the tire catches on a bump (and it will) it will pull the shock into extension. Could be an issue damaging you frame or shock.

    • @moandhannahtravel
      @moandhannahtravel  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Way simpler getting the bike on! We’ve never heard of Tyler’s issue but we’ve had the rack on for 6 months and can say we’re sold on the handlebar hanging!

    • @joshuahuang07
      @joshuahuang07 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i have a north shore rack. It seems like the handlebar mount is more universal. One of my friends has an evil wreckoning and it is a super tight fit to get it into the cradle of the north shore rack. Since it is mounted by the fork crown and squeezed together with the frame of the bike, some bikes don't have much clearance when you turn the handlebars at an angle.

    I did not have a good experience with this rack! The sharp edges on the water jet cut bar Hooks cut through the productive hosing after a very short time, 2 shuttle days, damaging the handle bars. The dh Hooks did not work at all unscrewing damper dials and Damaging the very tops of friends and my own stanchions. Definitely not the best rack at all!

  • @tylerbruce5731
    @tylerbruce5731 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    One problem I see is the rear facing wheel means when the back wheel hits a bump which is a normal issue with these racks the force will pull the shock and opposed to push into it.
    Which then has the potential to cause damage to the shock or frame.

    • @moandhannahtravel
      @moandhannahtravel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We’re having trouble visualizing this but we’ve had the rack on for 6 months with almost daily use and no issues! We would try to email them that question and maybe they can answer it better than us!

    • @tylerbruce5731
      @tylerbruce5731 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@moandhannahtravel i mean I could ask them but of course as the manufacturers they will have a bias towards their product.
      On North Shore racks (I own the 2 bike version) the back wheel hand lower than the bumper and extend back from the bumper.
      What can happen is when vehicle goes over say a large speed bump or a sharp incline (say offroading) the rear can contact the speed bump or down slope of the groups.
      In the case of the North Shore rack the bike is facing "forward" and this contact would be against the rear wheel in the same manner as landing a jump ie compressing the shock.
      In the case of this rack the contact would be against the rear wheel from the "top" side and in effect the opposite direction of force the suspension is designed to handle.
      Its not an issue that would come up if one is driving smooth paved roads etc without speed bumps.
      But certainly if you are shuttling rougher fire roads or come across bigger speed bumps this seems like a potential issue.

    • @LoloRacksUSA
      @LoloRacksUSA 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ground clearance is a consideration with ALL vertical style racks. With our set up you can lean towards the vehicle thus picking up the bike and giving more ground clearance. Side note: these are the same carbon bars on my bike as when I started the company. No issues.

    • @tylerbruce5731
      @tylerbruce5731 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LoloRacksUSA I understand that and havent argued that North Shore style racks are not prone to clearance.
      In fact my point is they are prone to clearance issues as is your style of vertical racks. Which you rightly acknowledge.
      My point is full suspension bikes are designed to take forces from the bottom (ground) and to a less degree forward.
      In the NS style the rear wheel is such that in the event the rear wheel does clear an obstacle/ground the suspension would take the force as it is designed to do (from the bottom as the bottom of the bike is facing forward).
      In your design that force would be transmitted through the top of the wheel/swing arm which in effect would have forces extending the shock, which the bike is not designed to do.
      Hence why I raised the potential issue.
      In short you can damage a bike with any vertical rack (and you can find youtube videos of bikes not clearing etc) but with the bike facing forward as in NS style the suspension would likely compress. With the bike rear facing the shock cannot compress but would be forced to extend.
