      Quincy Birwood exactly, that alone shows the cops decision to ignore a medical Dr shows they are responsible for his death, making a decision not to do what they were told to do from a professional in medical. They did NOt not care, they let him die. Most cops are lazy , power control freaks. Still ANOTHER person dies because of police neglect, stupidity, and downright cold hearted indifference. Not to protect and serve... but to detain and let die from neglect after being told by a Dr to take him to the infirmary. They did plenty of wrong doing , they should all be in jail with no medical care and see how it feels!

      @MsReneeAJones 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Johnnykham_ why sue the lawyers take almost half and they build you up making you think you will be having a jury trial. BS. Almost 90% settle out of court. It is almost impossible to sue the police even if they shoot and kill someone for no reason at all. There are so MANY laws protecting them, that's why they do all these curropt things now days. They know nothing is going to happen to them. Even if you sue and win, a piece of paper is put in their file and no one will ever see it unless they move to another town and go to work at another pig station. The lawyers play you because they need your money that you are awarded in the settlement. That's their living. They don't care what the cops did to you. They just want at least 40% of what you get plus what ever they paid out of pocket to build your case, like stamps, travel, requesting audio, open records request, etc. You go home with hopefully 30% after the lawyers finish raping you. Also, there is a secret rule that the pigs know, the lawyers know and the judge knows about when taking the cops and sheriff and the department to court. It's almost impossible to win and even if you do, nothing will change within the police department. I had fist hand experience in 2015. Took two years before it finally ended. No if i need a cop they refuse to help. I wrecked my car in 2018, called 911 and waited 45 minutes before any cop showed up after calling 911 repeatly. I've had a weekly problem with my neighbor and their kids coming on my property either stealing or damanging my property for the last 4 yrs. Got photos, etc and every time I call the city cops to come address the problem, they make it out to be me. The thing is, it's not just me, it's other homes and families in my neighborhood that these kids are doing the samething to them to. The other neighbors have told these cops the same stuff i've told them and nothing happens. The kids tend to pick on me because they live directly behind me. The only thing that's going to stop these cops from hurting/killing people is for these laws that protect them, is for the laws have to change and hold then accountable for their actions. If you ever do sue the police, research your lawyer and his fees and get it in writting, even if it is in writting they will try and trick you and change things in the end for their benefit. Their are really nice while they are building your case, but have a very different attitude towards you in the end. Oh, if you use the public defender research their background as well. The law is: "who you know, and how much are you willing to spend" to make it go away or a lesser punishment.

My best friend was murdered by another "friend" but all the cops came up with was "accidental death"!? This person has killed 3 people and was feeding police information in return for not putting his ass in jail for 20 years! I have also seen a report on myself where I was stopped from driving my car because the cops thought I was stoned, they detained me as I put the key in the ignition(this happened at the police station while reporting stolen goods after a 12hour night shift spraying sanitizer in our local meat works) but my erratic driving was caused by residual cannabis, all the other medication that I take had absolutely no effect!??? I will tell you that I was on a high dose of methadone, sleeping and anxiety medication so this surprised the hell out of my doctor, myself and the young constable that got lambered with the case because her boss that caused the problem wasn't big enough to deal with his mistakes!?

    In the facility I worked in, if this behavior would’ve happened, everyone that touched him would’ve been fired. Just disgusting and sad. But that’s how working in jails go. People get so desensitized because they’re just so used to seeing craziness and evil at times that they lose their sense of humanity. The things I saw and heard from coworkers still bother me. This type of mentality is common in law enforcement anyway. You gotta find the balance.

    • @InDatParish
      @InDatParish 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Dominique Powell-Saidykhan that is 100% correct. Not defending their actions at all. They should be fired and arrested. However, the answer to the question as to why or how they could have done this is simple. Working in a jail, the officers are desensitized (some could argue dehumanized) to seeing pain and/or suffering (sort of like how doctors have no problem seeing blood, guts, brains, etc). On top of that, I call it the “crying wolf syndrome.” Everyone in jail frequently plays the victim in order to obtain special treatment or privileges. It’s always too hot, too cold, food isn’t good enough, medicine isn’t working good enough, not comfortable enough, etc. so over time, officers at the jail just kind of get that “yeah, yeah, whatever” attitude when someone says they need something.

    • @Jie67
      @Jie67 6 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      @@InDatParish are you dumb, the doctor clearly stated from the first moment the doctor saw him he needed medical assistance ASAP, it is not the polices job to medically assess people that is down to the doctor, it is not down to the police to decide if they should act upon the doctors call. I dont care if the police have mentally insane people faking it all the time, this clearly was not the case therefore it is the police officers faults this man died due to there inability to comply with a medically trained person whos soul basis is to medically assess and treat people, police are not doctors and should never play doctor, not one of them has the training or IQ capacity to be a doctor or they would not be an officer of the law. Trying to justify this by other peoples actions before this man is ridiculous, you cannot label everyone under the same banner and you certainly cannot judge a man based on your experiences with other arrested people. This man clearly had zero trouble before this and clearly was not acting up before his seizure, people like yourself are the reason this man died.

      At the end of the day, that's what that pay check means. If you can't stand the heat then get out of the kitchen.
      Edit: That is; performing a 100% satisfactory job in the kitchen. If the job is half good or not good at all then "get out of the kitchen" meaning, if these police, (which they did in the video) did not want to perform their fullest ability in taking care of the inmate (making sure he received excellent health care) then they need to stop collecting the paycheck and get out.
      One more thing: It's important for all of us the recognize poor performance from a police officer. Too many of us are looking at videos like the one captioned above and saying that even though it's wrong, it's what the police officers are paid to do. That's simply not the truth. Recognize officers doing this kind of work and call it what it is, unprofessional, amateurish, not deserving of pay in any occupation for that matter. (See my reply further down to see why).
      Sorry for the misunderstanding and I hope this clarifies my position on what happened on that day in the video. Yes, those officers need reassignments probably patrolling some deserted island away from people.

There's no way that MCAD could have been the cause of his death and you don't have to be a doctor to figure that out. But of course, all the doctor had to do was pretend he was already going through the process of death no matter what so he and his colleagues and fellow officers could avoid criminal charges and dodge responsibility, which is exactly what he did. I hate to say this but if you had ever worked in a jail or prison situation you would know that a lot of inmates act like this when there’s absolutely nothing wrong and it is so devastating for those who truly are suffering because if officers responded to every single inmate who manifested symptoms like this there would be nothing else done in in incarceration. I am a nurse I worked in a prison for two months and this is exactly why I left because I was too sensitive and I needed to “lose my empathy” and that’s never gonna happen so I understand that there is a struggle to balance True need and avoiding getting caught up in manipulative tactics. I don’t think the way this man was handled is in any way justifiable. Corrections officers are made to follow orders and they aren’t medically trained so we don’t really have a great system in place.
      I truly believe they need better medical training so they can sort out legitimate concerns from false actions intended to disrupt proceedings.
      So much tragic loss, so wasteful 😩😖😩

    I'm retired young from the US Army due to combat wounds sustained in Iraq. I was a nurse and medic. I had an extra job earlier in my career where I worked twelve hour shifts from 7pm Friday night til 7am Saturday morning and from 7pm Saturday night til 7am Sunday morning. I was the jail nurse. I was responsible for the health and treatment of the corrections officers, the local city, county and state police officers as well as any federal agents who came into the jail ( it was a county jail in a larger city in Virginia) and I was also responsible for the intake, medications, health and treatment of all of the jail's inmates. Being a larger city it was also a university town with a few large universities, colleges, tech schools, etc. Once late on a Friday night a young man was brought in because he'd been warned by officers a couple times earlier in the night for public intoxication and he hasn't taken the warning and the favor of being given a chance to go on home because it was his 21st birthday and he was really tearing it down that night. I did his initial assessment when he was booked. I didn't cate much at all for what I saw so i gave it 15 minutes and went into the holding cell to reassess him. I was correct in my concerns; his condition had deteriorated in just that 15 minute interval. I immediately informed the Lieutenant on duty that they couldn't continue to process the kid, that he must instead be taken out post haste by any available deputy to the nearest emergency room as I had diagnosed alcohol poisoning and that he was very near the point that respiratory distress, respiratory failure, coma, and death would be immediate concerns. He didn't have a lot of time. The physician in charge as the medical officer for that facility ( who of course was not present most of the time and who approved medical treatments over the phone when necessary) had vetted me and let me work autonomously under his license to practice medicine as if I were an MD as he had vetted me and my background, experience, etc working as a physician in the same manner in the military so I had his complete trust and authority and I was the medical officer whenever I was on duty. And the corrections officers who I worked with were well aware of that. We had a great deal of mutual respect for each other. They didn't question me and took it as a medical order and immediately transported the young man. The next night I arrived at the jail and only a few minutes after I'd arrived for my shift I was asked to go back out through the security levels that I'd just entered through to report to work for my shift. There were visitors in the lobby who'd requested a moment of my time. Upon reaching the lobby I found that the visitors were the mother and sister of the young man from the previous night along with the sister's boyfriend. They'd inquired about me with the jail earlier in the morning Saturday and had asked to come to the jail that Saturday night at 7pm as I came on duty for my second twelve hour shift. They were lovely people and they had wanted very much to meet me as they'd been called into the emergency room the previous night and the physician who was treating their son/brother had apparently told them when they thanked him for all he'd done to aid the young man that " it's not me you should be thanking but the male nurse at the jail. If he hadn't been the one to treat your son and immediately sent him here to the ER then your son would've been dead within an hour or less last night. That nurse is the man who saved your son's life. That nurse had no access to any equipment other than a standard law enforcement roadside breathalyzer. He's one helluva diagnostician.". I wrote all of this not to bring any praise upon myself but in order to really drive home this one point: military, law enforcement, and corrections personnel should ALWAYS listen to the medical officer on site or on scene and take their advice as if it were an order.

Yet the idiot jailers felt they were more knowledgeable, and thought that he was faking, so put him in a cell to Observe him for over 30 minuets, yet with little observation. One question, who do you think is more qualified to tell you if a patient is having a real seizure and other symptoms, a friggin DOCTOR or a heartless jailer who only has a GED who now thinks they are somebody because they get to wear a gun. They deliberately went against what the Doctor said, and should have been in there as soon as they heard him calling for help! As a previous jail nurse, I can tell you that it can be really frustrating dealing with jail policies and procedures. Security policies and procedures trump medical decisions and all we can do is bring our issues to the sergeant , which might be addressed or not. I was lucky and mostly worked with great security officers that respected our medical decisions but that was always contingent on their own policies. For instance, I had a diabetic who had a dangerously low blood sugar and was confused. One the nurses wanted to give him piece of candy or a cup of orange juice but we were told that we could be charged with giving contraband to an inmate. It was crazy and that's how these terrible things happened. Also, yes, we can have 20-30 "seizures" a day with 80% being fake, which can definitely lead to people not taking them seriously but they even said the guy looked sick, so that's not an excuse. I feel bad for his family.

      Angeloublue32 they knew that guy had medical issues, and also it's hella easy to tell the difference between a fake seizure and a real one.. you can see it in the face and by how powerful the convulsions are.. when someone really seizures you can see the life go out of them

      The only way anybody can die from heroin detox is from severe dehydration, and that is still extremely rare and it's very very hard to do.
      If you're detoxing from alcohol or benzos or any drug that works off gaba receptors then yes, you can easily die from detoxing due to seizures

    Jails don't make money if
    the inmate is transferred.
    Keeping him there was a
    money decision. But that
    costed a life, and a lawsuit.

    • @jesuscage
      @jesuscage 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, very incorrect, the medical center at the jail is part of the jail he would've still been in custody of the jail so they would've made their money regardless...they should've helped him...I know this is an old comment but maybe you'll see it

    In this day and age, the scariest thing I can think of is being confronted by police, if you're completely right or completely wrong, they simply do not care if you survive the encounter with them...
    When you are confronted by police in the most basic way, your chances of being assaulted or even killed are exponentially higher than being confronted by any other person...
    What's worse are the protections afforded to law enforcement that you or I would never be given...

    We're sick and tired of giving inmates medical treatment (boys crying wolf) and even though we don't have any medical training, we've decided to put a stop to it. There's no way we're going to allow medically train people to decide whether or not people need treatment, we'll decide that on our own. The fact that no one in that jail was charged with this man's death, tells anyone all they need to know about how government protects government.

    Why would they feel the need to put a new policy in place if there was no wrongdoing? I have Epilepsy and first of all you are never ever supposed to pin someone down while they are having a seizure. I don’t know where these nurses or doctors went to school but they were not qualified for the job. Secondly, all of them looked in on him and saw him suffering yet decided not to do anything. Instead these sick bastards decided that they wanted to “observe” which to me sounded like they wanted to watch him suffer. Thirdly, minutes can mean the difference between life and death. Yes he may have already been ill before he went in but they didn’t even take it seriously. He could have been given medication or gotten proper medical treatment so that he would have stabilized. This is so very wrong. It looks like a case of cops protecting cops.

    Over 25 years ago I had a misdemeanor DUI and had to do 48 hours in jail. It wasn't a large jail. This was in Northern California. I was not given my medication on time, nor even close to it, nor was anybody else. Even though I was supposed to take it at certain times. I was very troubled for myself and others. It was very obvious they did not care. I haven't drank since!

      Jackie Kester me and my diabetic friend both got in trouble(he picked up a wallet at a casino, we sat and played games and didn't even open the wallet but cops charged both of us with grand theft which was easily beat) and we were put in jail, they took away my insulin pump and my friends insulin pump.. and they wouldn't give my friend his medications.. this happened on a Friday, I had to be in there till monday to get out.. they almost killed me several times because I have what's called a dawn phenomena that makes my blood sugar spike.. they also had a generic insulin chart that applied to everyone, when it was way wrong for me
