The 70s was a happy decade for us young people and so much rock - and even the disco - was happy. Made you feel great! Yep, your gandparents (i was a teen then and 63 now with 7 grandkids) we were cool and had incredible music on a daily basis. Id go back there in a heartbeat. It was THAT good! Great reaction and very happy a younger man "gets" what makes this great music! My granddaughters and grandson like it too! 😀
You are correct. People were happy back then. Rock was better. people were friendlier. Life was better and safer. People were talented. No auto tune. No computer generated music or beats, just musicians jamming and singer their hearts out.
Thankful I got to live through the 60' and on. I never thought I'd see the day when the quality in music was no longer sought-after. Fine talented musicians and vocalists striving to make something great to call there own. Now all that's left of my era is a few remaining remnants and the proof of the music's excellence contained on video. I am greatful for that.
I saw REO sing at a fair in my home town in IL before they became famous. My best friend and I both said "they are going to be famous one day". lol - Of course they were that and beyond.
Living in central Illinois we lived and breathed their music, awesome live band. Formed in Champaign, IL by drummer and keyboard player and Gary Richrath guitar from Peoria, IL. Man, fond memories and never gets old.
Back when music was REAL! .. One of my favorites.. REO is the bomb! Kevin Cronin is still belting out concerts around the country.. I saw them about 3 years ago in San Jose, CA.
I was born at the right time I guess because 1970's was my childhood and 1980's was junior high, high school and young adulthood so both had a powerful impact on me, and I was a bit precocious so I was very attentive to my environment and would even record every hit off the radio. Every song you cover and enjoy has a double significance for me as it evokes specific memories of the era and people I knew and places I lived, so it's personal when I listen to reactions. I wish your generation could go back in time just to observe because the world was so different. Although each decade of the 20th Century was unique in styles, fashion, music and trends, they were all so socially connected and there was this blissful innocence of just indulging yourself in all life has to offer in a carefree sense. But in the 21st Century the change was so drastic that it feels like a switch was flipped (and the events of 9/11 played a part as well). Not just the amazing music with heart that is often lacking today but in social isolation, violence, loss of innocence, lack of connection, extreme political correctness as to what you can say or do, etc. It's as if the previous century was a dream and then suddenly someone abruptly woke us up and said "okay, that's enough of that fantasy and carefree indulgence, time to snap out of it and face cold reality." At first I thought it was just me or because I'm older but I've seen so many others express a similar sentiment, not just my those my age but even Gen Z when they observe music, movies and videos from our days. It's not fair because today's generation has the same social desires and wanderlust but it's just a different way of life now for all of us -- and it only seems to be moving more and more that direction. Archival footage, recordings is how we temporarily revisit (and today's generations experience) that different time and and computer technology is how we remotely communicate now. I figured those who only know life today won't know what they're missing and what you don't know can't hurt you, but then I see a lot of young people just have that same feeling, like something is missing. And when they observe or listen to our times they seem to connect to it and see what that is.
Yes, REO's stuff is something that makes you think about the good and the bad times. Check out "Easy Money", "Time For Me To Fly", "Keep On Loving You" Good stuff from you two. Keep it up.
I saw them before they got big. Once playing in a shopping mall about 1970-71. Went on to see them several times and, yes, people were HAPPY... and HIGH...
I grew up in Champaign, Illinois where REO was born. Such a wonderful place to grow up as a kid music-wise, and I’m proud of where I grew up. Thanks for choosing this one! It’s one of my faves by them. 🙂
we was happy back then because life was so much easier then now and the people back then had respect for each other compared to the people today simple as that i so miss the 80s
They just nailed it with this song when it came to that intensity, its just a pleasantly “busy” song, like picture a car full of teenagers flying down a highway out in the middle of the desert and everyone in the car is busy doing something anything a couple in the back making out bumping the guy thats tryin to roll a joint without spilling it everywhere, driver playing drums on the steering wheel, front passenger air guitar while his girlfriend sitting on the middle Console just lost her sunglasses out of the sunroof while collecting beer money from the back while someones little brother is kicking trying to be let out of the trunk, you kno,.. that song hahah
He's definitelty 'right' on THIS one ! Great reaction and song choice. He's on point with his commentary as well, mentioning the musicianship. Loved it!
Listen to the remastered version of this song.. It's crazy... The vocals, the music, everything is beautiful. It is already very beautiful, but they purified it a little and made a crystal clear version. Give it a try. Kevin cronan's vocals are just insane
This was one of my favorite songs for a minute. I love the change over from Neil on the piano/keyboard to Gary (RIP) guitar. Too bad the "changes" they were talking about was their change in their overall product with "Hi Infidelity" It got them their well-deserved millions but was a drastic change to the dark side of HI. I bought the album the day it was released. Listened to it twice and sent it to my 12 year old sister and said you're gonna love this. She didn't. She couldn't even believe it was REO. THIS was the good stuff. It's a crime they're not in the R&R HOF NOTE: They're currently touring with STYX and Loverboy🎸🎸🎸
As much as Kevin Cronin was a driving force in getting the band into the bigtime, he was also the reason they made the huge shift into softer stuff. They never recovered their great form after that.
I just saw them a few weeks ago in Pittsburgh (with Styx and Loverboy) and they rocked. To my surprise, there were a lot of youngsters there. Consider me impressed.
Being a musician, songwriter and vocalist myself, I used to play in 80's and 90's rock and heavy metal bands. I even got to meet and play with a few of the famous 80's bands before they were signed. I miss this. Even though this is late 70's here, it still rolled into the 80's and 90's. Another thing is all the great backing vocals were done by the band. Not studio singers. I had the good fortune of being in two bands where we were all lead vocalists, so we could do backing vocals like this. And there were so many bands who had great backing vocalis like Reo Speedwagon. A few others were Chicago, Styx, Foreigner, Journey, Yes, Kansas, just to name a few. Great times. I've watched a few of your videos. You both always have great reactions to songs.
I saw this in the tour of that album with a record promoter when it came out. I went backstage and met the band, and got a promotional copy of that album
Well, I was born in 1952, so I'm 70 years old now. If you wanted to be at this concert listening to REO in the 70's, you needed to be born a little before or a little after me. I bought this REO album ion 1978.
I’ve seen REO three times over the years. This is my favorite song of theirs by a country mile. Tip: y’all need to reply to comments on your channel. At the very least, give hearts to comments to acknowledge that you’ve read them.
That show, Stranger Things is MASSIVE all over the world and it has all of the songs in it from back then. Kate Bush had a record hit song from back in the 80's go viral and become wildly popular. We need to have more people push the sound of back then. Lightyears better than today's garbage.
Saw them five times in the 80s here in New Orleans. I was 12 or 13 the first time I saw them. That was 83 when your parents would let you go to a concert with your friends, lol. Crazy to think about doing that today! Even seen Prince Purple Rain tour in the Superdome, I was in 7th grade.
Subbed today. I found you guys after you went AWOL (lol, jk) and loved your past reactions. Have been waiting for your return. My reaction hopefuls are: - Bee Gees: Too Much Heaven - MJ: Remember The Time 👍🏽⭐⭐⭐
Hot August summer nights in central Illinois and partying with REO... The only reason girls took guys to the show was so they'd have some shoulders to sit on !! Great song, greater times....no, best times !!!!
would love to hear your reactions on Chris Klafford's kitchen sessions or Eva Cassidy if you love vocals your get blown away by both of these and there Acoustic guitar playing is outstanding
They were way better in the 70s. I thought their pop love ballads... were just not for me. This completely rocks and informs who they really are, a super tight, super good band. They were great live!
There’s gotta be like 20 better versions on TH-cam lol.. and not hearing the opening piano is weird and I hate it lmao. Wish you guys had headphones on too.. sounds so good with them and the cleanest version
I'm 71 now and probably saw these guys 6 or 7 times - they were a super LIVE band and Gary Richrath was one of the most underrated lead guitars ever
I’m 59 me too! ❤️🔥😎. RIP Gary!
While Gary's talent definitely helped to make Speedwagon what it was, he probably would 've been more satisfied with a band doing heavier stuff.
@@randallshaw9609 specially after they really started going soft
100% I’ve always said the same thing. Always looked like he was so happy up on stage playing. Smooth dude. Rip!

They were legends and high musicians ...the golden era of rock and pop
You are correct. People were happy back then. Rock was better. people were friendlier. Life was better and safer. People were talented. No auto tune. No computer generated music or beats, just musicians jamming and singer their hearts out.
Turning 72 in a month and will be hearing/seeing them for the 34th time in Milwaukee--TURN IT UP!!!
One of the most talented and hardest working bands to ever grace us with their presence. Brava! ❤
Lots of beautiful babies were born when this song came out. OUTSTANDING
Better times back then.
Thankful I got to live through the 60' and on. I never thought I'd see the day when the quality in music was no longer sought-after. Name 1 band today that has the talent and puts out quality music like this. I will wait.
One of the best summer time song's of the 80's cold beer a Beautiful lady
And the ocean. Didn't get any better than that!
Ah, Richrath's guitar.... and that Wurlitzer! So good!
Glad to see our youth getting what we had back in the seventies. If this song doesn’t blow your mind then Oh well
Living in central Illinois we lived and breathed their music, awesome live band. Formed in Champaign, IL by drummer and keyboard player and Gary Richrath guitar from Peoria, IL. Man, fond memories and never gets old.

Good stuff from you two. Keep it up.
Their later song, “Find Your Own Way Home” is another great one.
NO Auto Tune back then, PERIOD!
All TALENT!
100%
Great job you two!
Dude. This is just them playing with the studio version overlapped.
I saw them before they got big. Once playing in a shopping mall about 1970-71. Went on to see them several times and, yes, people were HAPPY... and HIGH...

love the reaction and love Wagon. Got to see them live and one of my favorite concerts.

They were this great in concert! I loved seeing them and we were happier in those days with terrific music! Try Riding the Storm out too!
RIP Gary 🙏!!

We definitely were happier back then! I lived it. It was the best of times!! Music was MUSIC! Keep on rollin! ❤
This number changed everything! The piano, the Hammond, the guitar solo on the Les Paul ... fahgedaboudit!
Loved this song when it came out, love it still, Great band! Roll with the changes works both ways! We ALL need to roll with the changes!
They were in my day. I agree. They don’t do this anymore.
Give her a taste of Triumph, my friend. You'll be happy and I bet she will be too.

In the 70's we had a lot of freedom and the world was uncomplicated.
Thanks for reacting to this!!!!! It’s such a killer song!!!!!!!!! Nobody else has reacted to this that I know of. So great!!
Gary Ritchrath forever!
Great reaction to a great song. RIP GR
Why aren’t we happy anymore??? THANK YOU social media!!!

MULTIPLE Live Versions of this song on TH-cam. Equally GREAT! Even one version from the Midnight Special rolling credits from the end of the show!
70s 80s music best ever!!!
The concert is over, and like what the crowed always does, they cheer, scream, and wait for the bank to come back out and do one more song.
These guys rock, i always felt better after listneing to them.
Other rockers from their 70's lineup was 457 Riverside Avenue, Riding The Storm Out, Flying Turkey Trot, their cover of Little Queenie.
Listen to the song called “back on the road again”, “Flying Turkey Trot” or “Golden country”
Saw them headline a show with opening bands The Babys (with John Waite) and, wait for it . . . The New York Dolls.
We were happy in the 80's because no technology so we lived in the moment.
Riding the storm out and time for me to fly are great too.

If you don’t like a good guitar solo from one of the best of all time, look it up, you don’t like rock n roll.
They were way better in the 70s. I thought their pop love ballads... were just not for me. This completely rocks and informs who they really are, a super tight, super good band. They were great live!
Check out Golden Country, Riding The Storm Out, 157 Riverside Avenue etc. Richrath RIP was a monster on guitar
Keep Pushin' and Only the Strong Survive too. What a a force they were.
So a lot of people miss...Bruce Hall (left of Gary), is having more fun than the crowd.
I miss everyone being happy!
You should do roll with the changes with Reo Speedwagon and Chicago live from Red Rocks
We WERE happy and the future was bright. No smartphones -- you had to actually talk to other people!
It was their finale song!
This song is in my top 5 ever, she just doesn’t feel it

Genius song….usually an encore.
One of the best album covers You Can tune a piano but you can't tune fish
Take it to church on this one.
Riding the storm out
It gives me hope that some younger people appreciate real music. The garbage heap that passes for music today is numbing a generation.
Thanks for the video guys. This song is a masterpiece, wish you'd reviewed the studio version first.
