- The Jews of Warsaw were shipped to the extermination camp Treblinka II. But a plucky band of Polish army officers, doctors and Jewish slave labourers decided to launch an uprising in 1943 and escape from certain death at the hands of the SS.

From my childhood years, which predate your birth, I've read everything I've ever found on WW2 and I have been reminded of facts I'd forgotten or learned something new in almost *every single one* of your short, marvelously informative, videos. I hope you teach at least a few university classes at times, to inspire students and demonstrate how to make history vastly more compelling than the current 'social media' pseudo-drama. *THANK YOU !!*

I legit screamed 'NO' when I realized the episode was coming to an end. I have personally never heard of this particular uprising, and I really must know what happened.

Look for samuel willenberg. He will probably come up in pt 3. He was part of the escape. He found clothes of some of his family when working as sondercommando including his younger sisters coat. Just heartbreaking.
I could only imagine what he was feeling! I know that I would want to rip out their Nazi hearts and throats with my bare hands!!!! God forgive me for what I'm thinking! It gets my blood boiling thinking that there are still people living this nightmare in certain parts of the world!!!

Same that’s why I love this channel cause I’m always learning something new.
There were uprisings in Auschwitz, treblinka, and sobibor.
Many times people resisted or attempted uprisings but when they were stopped or captured they would kill sometimes up to hundreds of random innocent people in retaliation, It was a terribley impossible choice.
Men and women also blew up a gas chamber at Auschwitz. Look up "kitty heart moxin" she has a lot of testimonials, as well as being involved.

And then the 2 options are fighting back or defeated acceptance (possibly even relief that it’s ending) both of which are fair and reasonable responses to the situation.
It is so good to hear your work! It’s not just the accuracy of the historical outline but the most important thing is the historians distance and political non-affiliation of it! Staying neutral even in the description of the most horrific acts of human barbary elevates you to be a nowadays very rare example of your profession! Thank you for these great anecdotes about history that we all should be aware of. As a child growing up In front of the history channel, and a parochial school attendant for 12 years, I love listening to your amazing stories. I never once needed to study for history , and senior year in prep school got a 93 on the regents finals , which is like honors, without even lifting a page.

to annoy the Soviets..killed a bunch of fellow countrymen..well, as now with gas: to spite my mother, I'll freeze my ears.Are these kids? No. This is how the "adults" decided and...many compatriots were condemned to death..because of propaganda..because of the position.. And everyone has only One life!

just looking at pictures of treblinka as it is now covered in the winter snow without anyone in sight would send shivers down your spine it looks so beautiful in the polish countryside but was hell on earth

@@shutup2751 there is no such thing as ghosts or haunted places. If there was - we wouldn’t be able to function in Poland so much blood and murdering took place in Warsaw, Oświęcim or Lublin...

Treblinka- an exceptionally chilling and haunting place. Completely unlike any other camp. Harrowing.

amazing that it was only 50 miles from Warsaw. 1 hour journey by train from the warsaw ghetto.

Your work is excellent. I research various comments you make and can often find articles to support your work. I also have knowledge of Hong Kong having lived there for about 8 years. I became a sleuth about HKs involvement in Ww2 including Pan Am flights in Hong Kong.
Anyway I am often a little clinical about these presentations,but I trust your work. Thank you for creating all this content, I value it.

Just watched interview of guard from Treblinka. Mark channel is all we can see detailed facts with no judgement. Constructive research work indeed
Fascinating series on the uprising at Treblinka! You provide many interesting details which makes your videos very thorough and thus very satisfying. Plus your delivery is calm & steady which makes your videos easy to listen to and easy to understand..
I wondered for a long time why so many dead bodies got to be piled up all over Treblinka just before Stangl took over as commandant and now I know why: it was the over ambitious commandant at the time, Dr. Irmfried Eberl who had many, many people killed without taking into account how to dispose of their bodies. The killing capacity at Treblinka far surpassed the capacity to get rid of the bodies. I remember from the movie 'Shoah' that the sonderkommando were ordered to clean up the dead bodies and the representative of the sonderkommando replied 'we'd rather be shot.' So it must have been awful. Anyway, again great video series!

So nice to see some really in depth content! A video about how you set about researching some of these topics would be very interesting, such as the process of tracking down the primary source materials, sorting out contradictory evidence and so forth.

I'm sure Dr. Felton will most likely speak about it, so I'm not going to provide any "spoilers" for non-history buffs.
Suffice to say, this is my favorite history channel on all of TH-cam. No bull, just facts, and interesting ones at that. If someone is brand new here watch the Opium War series. I learned so much from that. Mainly due to the fact that my primary interest in history was always American history, and the Roman Empire. So I learn from this channel, and I love it. 😎👍👍

Thanks mark. Your videos are so well researched, interesting to watch and informative. Your videos take these historical events and incorporates the human experience of the people who lived these events. It’s a great way to do history, and helps later generations really understand these events. Hopefully we can use this approach to improve our human race, as history is a great teacher.

Wirth was born in 1885, not 1895. It was the mention of him joining the army in 1905 that got me alert enough to look it up!
He was also first Commandant of Belzec

The Nazis really used a lot of resources in their highly organized, grotesque inhumanity.
I had no idea about the uprising at Treblinka. When I was in my teens I heard something briefly about Treblinka on a program but don't remember anything about an uprising.

These are stories we (of the world) need to hear, as tough as they are to think about we must remember that this all happened not to long ago and indeed could happen again, my parents families (all Danish) resisted the occupation of Denmark, as fighters at night or as my father did a spy working in a business office and after the war a hunter for those to face war trials, along with other allied officers, (OSS) watching this series allows me to better understand what went on, and for that understanding sir I thank you.
the Danish resistance to the German occupation was exemplary. This American tips his hat to you.

In a space of only 13 months. 900,000 had been murdered there. That's close to the entire population of Dublin.
i always find the extermination camps to be more eerie than auschwitz due to their obscure locations out in the countryside far away from anywhere and the fact little of them remains today yet the forests were they are located witnessed the murder of millions
That's crazy numbers, there is only about 565,000 in my whole county.

It's like if the History Channel actually did history, and frankly that's always killed me because there are so many fascinating, real stories, that it boggles my mind that they'd fill time with alien stories. Great and sad episode... P.S, the c in Dr.Chorazycki's name is pronounced like the c in the word "central", and the Ch in the beggining of the name is pronounced like H, so phonetically, it would go along the lines of "Horowzycki". Polish names are easy to butcher unfortunately.
To pay highest respect it should be prenounced as follows: dr Khoronzhitsky
Coming from a Polish family, I have some experience with Polish names. Chorazycki is the Polish version of what is written as Horowitz in English. A close approximation of the correct pronunciation would be hwor-oh-witch-key. Polish uses a number of consonants that don't exist in English.

Just finished Mark Felton's book, "Guarding Hitler". Excellent read.... As with his videos, the book was interesting, informative and full of bits that I had no clue about.

Hello Dr Felton. Thank you so much for this video. Do you know how early the Western Allies (ie British & Americans) knew of the Reinhard camps? Also, are there any known survivors of the Belzec camp?
Yes There were indeed some known survivors of Belzec. Unfortunately there were only 7 people who survived Belzec. Unfortunately 2 of the people who survived Belzec have unknown names. The names of the other survivors of Belzec were Rudolph Reder, Chaim Hirzmann, Ruthie, Israel Sziparo, and Yisarel Sipra.

And the second Commandant, how the hell do you go from being a police detective upholding the law for decades the get a different job murdering people....Bizarre.
he was good at murdering people,
just not very good at keeping it hidden from his victims,
therefore creating a panic and ultimately making the guards job harder,
he was also very bad at disposing of the evedence

Hi Mark, thanks for another interesting episode. Just a small remark, in case it matters. Chorążycki is indeed incredible hard to pronounce for a non-polish. To make it easier for you, yet still close to the original, I would suggest - Horonshytzki.

The movie was good. I don't know how accurate though.
@@calvanoni5443 it's largely accurate the majority of characters were based on real people and the events shown in the film are largely similar to what actually happened in real life

@@calvanoni5443 the movie is incredibly sanitised. Have a look at the Russian movie about Sobibor. It’s far more realistic but is in Russian.
Can't find 'Treblinka - The 1943 uprising (Episode 3). I saw 1 and 2 and then get the Warsaw Ghettograd - but not Treblinka Episode 3. Any hints?!
It is heartbreaking, not only this tragedy, but that so few know or understand what happened .... so much so that 'miss-gendering' is somehow considered justification for calling the person a yahtzee ....
