The January 6 Committee Hearings are proving my previous point that Trump was the worst US president in history. Tuesday's testimony by Ms. Hutchinson revealed a lot. Also note that Ms. Hutchinson is a Republican and most of the others who have testified about Trump's crimes are also Republicans. Two members of the committee are Republicans. Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney interviewed witness and presented solid evidence for Trump commiting sedition and other crimes. Your point about Washington quitting is exactly why I admire him so much. Obviously not a perfect man, and had his sins, but he relinquished power. So many leaders, including in my own country, became tyrants. But he didn't, and chose to step away and let history play out without him. I've always respected that immensely.
What's alarming here in the U.S tho his accomplishments are becoming increasingly more diluted in the American mind while his sins are becoming more emphasized, which is making his position of honor here come into question.

as a disabled american, trust me, we dont take the ADA for granted. every time i see a new corner with correctly graded ramps for wheelchair users and detectable warnings (the little bumps) for the visually impaired, im reminded how amazing it is that we have a law that puts our needs first. we obviously still have a long way to go for disabled rights (not paying hundreds when i go to the pharmacy would be nice) but it's impossible to understate how impactful the ADA is for millions of people.
Most Americans take so much for granted, and don't realize that almost everything you see in public was a process worked on by dozens, hundreds or even thousands of people.

William Henry Harrison’s greatest contribution to the Presidency has to be the Curse of Tippecanoe. If he was going to die in office, he was certainly not going to be the only one. One of Reagan’s greatest accomplishments was defeating the curse, and Bush and Biden have him to thank for that. Great video Mr. Beat!
I wouldn't say Mr. Beat is unbiased. I would just say that he tries to be fair-minded. That doesn't necessarily mean he isn't biased, which arguably no human being is.

Everyone is gonna have bias. What matters is if the reporter tries to be objective and doesn't let the bias get in the way of reporting real news.

Nixon got a lot during his presidency. He ended American involvement in Vietnam, became the first US press to open diplomatic relations with China. Spear-headed the end of the Cold War and signed Title IX into existence.

Nixon is an interesting character to me, he had an accomplishment list that presidents today could only dream of, and it was all overshadowed by the terrible things he did, including the war on drugs, the southern strategy, the invasion of Cambodia and his treatment of Vietnam protesters, the collapse of Bretton Woods, interventions in Latin America, and of course Watergate. But in his positive column are the creation of the EPA and OSHA, the clean air and water acts, detente with China and the Soviet Union, and the implementation of the fair housing act under HUD secretary George Romney. Also he gets credit for not trying to undermine Medicare, the accomplishment of his Democratic predecessor, as many small-government conservatives wanted him to do.

Idk about accomplishment, but I think a great moment in Carter's history was his handling of the three mile island incident. Without his willingness to give a speech from the plant, showing everyone it was safe, it could've spelled the beginning of the end for nuclear power.

Tyler's biggest accomplishment was establishing that the VP didn't just become acting president but actually became president upon the death of the previous president. It's taken for granted today, but was ambiguous at the time.

Glad to see Cleveland get that respect. I think most people think of him as an underwhelming president. But I very much agree that his resistance to expand the powers of the federal government was something noble, and the exact opposite trend of what we've seen from the past dozen or so presidents.

@@macforme yes, I can. At that point, there was zero precedent on how much power the vice-president had with the death of the president. The Constitution was vague about this. Some thought the VP would just be president until a special election was held. Some believed the VP would just be a figurehead president and the cabinet would run the country. Tyler insisted that he was the actual president and had all the powers that the Constitution bestowed on the elected president. None of this was inevitable. Tyler set the precedent that was later enshrined In the 25th Amendment. He may not have been that purposeful in his insistence, but it was extremely important.

25:25 there’s almost a generational divide among disabled Americans of pre and post ADA people. Pre-ADA people wouldn’t stand up for accommodations because they could be denied and face repercussions for asking (like getting fired at a job if you asked for accommodations because they didn’t want a disabled person working there). Since the law was passed, we’ve had legal standing, and have gotten more vocal about our needs, instead of suffering silently. It’s an incredible achievement for our community!
My bank account, finances, and investment portfolio all say that he definitely did not *end* the recession… he just helped make it suck a little less. I’d like to imagine that had there been less Republican push back he might have gotten more done… I vote Republican as crazy as that sounds with what I just said but the Obama era, as far as I can tell, is where the parties started fighting their opposition just to keep things from happening. Democrats did it to Trump, stifling everything he was trying to do… and it’s happening in reverse again with Republicans pushing back against Biden just because it’s Biden… I’m going to absolutely vote for Trump for a third time this November but I do hope and pray that should Kamala get the job she gets enough of her own in seats to accomplish something useful for everyone (like the economy) and not just something useful for less than 1% of the population, if you get my drift.

It’s nice to see Nixon get a little recognition for something other than watergate as he did have quite a fascinating foreign policy experience (both good and bad) but he always touted that he considered his biggest achievement was the National Cancer Foundation and though overshadowed by some other memorable presidential achievements, it’s a noteworthy one worth mentioning.
Maybe it's just because I spent most of the school year doing a deep dive into the subject (culminating in a 30+ page thesis💀) but I think that LBJ's biggest accomplishment was the Voting Rights Act. It's impact cannot be understated, especially considering how important voting is and the sheer degree to which Black people had been disenfranchised in the South. Again though I'm clearly very biased because of the depth of my research (I have listened to FAR too many LBJ phone calls). Either way this is a great video and I'm a big fan of your channel!
Washington only taking two terms was huge. In my opinion that was one of the greatest precedent moments in U.S. history, right up there with Ford's bad precedent of pardoning a president.
The pardon was understandable to me. It cut off the chance of a president facing legal retaliation for something that was more petit than criminal In the grand scheme.
The only thing I would say Mr. Beat is even though the achievement of the interstate by Eisenhower was great in a lot ways, the targeted damage it did to many cities and communities of colors should be recognized as a massive caveat that is still significant today.

Your treatment of Trump and your final comments won me over. I wish more people were that balanced in their views and open to other opinions. I personally think the biggest problem with our political system is the power of the two major parties and how decisive they’ve become. I think we need a purple party made up of people devoted to compromise, exploring new ways to actually solve our problems, preserving the Constitution, and protecting the rights of all people, even those they disagree with. Now I’m off to check out your other videos.
I would probably give trump his reversal of economic decline (at least by household income and growth statistics), including raising incomes for African American households by (factcheck me if I'm wrong here) an unprecedented amount. Though I guess you could say that this achievement is neutered by the massive expenditure overs final year of the presidency.
Or we could have a multiparity parliamentary system in which parties with different goals and agendas often have to form coalitions and compromise to achieve goals. A purple party "devoted to compromise" makes little sense.. being "for compromise" is meaningless. We need a system that doesn't constantly sabotage and shut out smaller parties, above all. I guarantee that would at least in the short-term reduce some of the political gridlock. It is important to be nuanced about political leaders-- including Donald Trump--, but just because they do a few things that are positive doesn't eliminate how they gave attempted to undercut democratic processes and discriminated against entire ethnic and religious groups (like the "Muslim ban")

The economic trajectory was already headed in this direction. Presidents for the most part have little impact on these economic outcomes unless they enact far-reaching programs and legislation that targets these populations.. Trump absolutely did no such thing for African Americans.

Ulysses.S.Grant would arguably be one f the longest office holding president, remember term limits weren’t instituted until after FDR. He was an incredible leader and brilliant with policy, but sadly, he didn’t have good cabinet picks. During his run for his 3rd term, he was bombarded by the opposition about his cabinet’s corruption, even his personal secretary was involved. Although he never took part in that affair he was still voted out off office and his political career was ruined. He could have easily gone on to winning a 3rd and possibly 4th terms.
It might be interesting to take this another way and use biggest accomplishment to mean the most impactful decision they made. Example; a lot of people would disagree with the wars started under W Bush but they are certainly his most impactful decision
Agreed and some presidents were terrible because they were incompetent and ineffective. A good example of that would be James Buchanan who I consider to be the worst president in American history. Other presidents were very effective such as FDR. Most people would agree that FDR was a very effective president but some people would argue that he was very good because he was very effective and others would argue that he was bad because he was very effective.

Sounds like a great way to piss off half his audience 😂 Considering the fact some presidents “most impactful decisions” were objectively good while others were objectively bad. So it’d basically be him praising some presidents but demonizing others.
One thing that I will give Buchanan is that he helped prevent a war between America and Britain over the San Juan border dispute by sending General Winfield Scott to negotiate a peace deal.
Grover Cleveland should have had two answers, one for each term. Also, while outside of the scope of this video by your own constraints, I do think that Taft deserves a shout-out for becoming Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. He had much more power there. (It also made him the only person to ever hold both offices at some point in their lives). Similarly, while we are at it, JQA returned to Congress after his Presidency (a very unusual move) and fought for abolition there.
Works amazing for Europe, and they do way more. The Netherlands has the happiest culture and offer twice as much as we do. We could use to look at we hat works worldwide and what has worked here. All the social programs we’ve had here dramatically improved our middle classes

It was so hard to imagine what the times back then were like as a kid. But the more you understand the world as it is today and the events you’ve lived through, the more interesting it gets.
Ur right surviving the War of 1812 even though it was a draw was a major accomplishment. But until then our leaders were against an army and navy. Infact we had a very small army and navy. Madison's own party was anti-naval. But what navy we had was top notch. After a few victories against the British everyone's opinion on the navy changed including Madison's. He goes on to talk about a military establishment being important when war is started and to even keep the peace. The War caused him to change his mind and support the navy and the Second Bank of the US. Madison was a man that could change when he needed to.
It really goes to show even if a president was considered "evil" or "corrupt", every single president has done something positive for the people or the country which is quite fascinating.
Yeah, I cannot agree with Buchanan’s management of the Utah situation, which I find deeply flawed. Notably, he failed to inform Brigham Young that he was being replaced as governor. He deployed troops without thoroughly verifying reports of disloyalty in Utah. He then dispatched approximately 2,000 federal troops, who were poorly supplied, to Utah. Additionally, the government did not reimburse the Central Overland California and Pikes Peak Express Company for resources requisitioned from civilians, including 40 stagecoaches, causing significant financial losses. Also it was legit calleed "Buchanan’s Blunder" in the national press.

I really think that one day, perhaps after Biden's first term is over, this video should receive a follow up on the worst things each President did while in office. As much as the great ones might be great, there's no denying that each president has some skeletons in their closet. I didn't even have to reach Polk's turn to find out his greatest accomplishment. He is the only president to ever keep ALL of his campaign promises (even if he did bullied others to get his way). Gaining all those territories was part of his campaign promises but we can't forget h e also promised to reestablish t he Independent Treasury System and Reduce tariffs which he also accomplished, all in the one term he promised to only serve.

Most presidents were only able to keep most of their campaign promises but not all of their promises, even those that had won a second term. Heck FDR lived through three of the four terms he was in office and couldn't keep all his promises (a lot of it due to issues from the Supreme Court). That's why I think the fact Polk was the only one to do so is his greatest accomplishment and that expanding US territory just part of the promises he made.
Not even Andrew Jackson could keep all his campaign promises and Polk looked up to the guy. So in a way, Polk succeeded one of his heroes in something.
John Tyler was also the first VP to step up as president after the death of his predocessor. And he did so by certifying his role himself, setting standards that Millard Fillmore, Andrew Johnson, Chester Arthur, Teddy Rossevelt, Calvin Coolidge, Harry Truman, and Lyndon Johnson was able to follow when their predocessors died as well as Gerald Ford when Nixon resign whether they did a good job or not.

Though, there are good arguments to be made that it was a poor choice, as it's hard to sing, and the lyrics kind of glorify war. While it was still an improvement over the previous anthem of "America" (due to using the same tune as multiple other anthems including "God Save the King/Queen"), there was a much better option in "America the Beautiful;" and since then other superior choices have been written such as "God Bless America" and "This Land Is Your Land."

The January 6 Committee Hearings are proving my previous point that Trump was the worst US president in history. Tuesday's testimony by Ms. Hutchinson revealed a lot. Also note that Ms. Hutchinson is a Republican and most of the others who have testified about Trump's crimes are also Republicans. Two members of the committee are Republicans. Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney interviewed witness and presented solid evidence for Trump commiting sedition and other crimes. as a disabled american, trust me, we dont take the ADA for granted. every time i see a new corner with correctly graded ramps for wheelchair users and detectable warnings (the little bumps) for the visually impaired, im reminded how amazing it is that we have a law that puts our needs first. we obviously still have a long way to go for disabled rights (not paying hundreds when i go to the pharmacy would be nice) but it's impossible to understate how impactful the ADA is for millions of people.
I'm a young disabled person and feel the same way. I couldn't imagine living without it since I've been disabled!
Most Americans take so much for granted, and don't realize that almost everything you see in public was a process worked on by dozens, hundreds or even thousands of people.

William Henry Harrison’s greatest contribution to the Presidency has to be the Curse of Tippecanoe. If he was going to die in office, he was certainly not going to be the only one. One of Reagan’s greatest accomplishments was defeating the curse, and Bush and Biden have him to thank for that. Great video Mr. Beat!

Nixon is an interesting character to me, he had an accomplishment list that presidents today could only dream of, and it was all overshadowed by the terrible things he did, including the war on drugs, the southern strategy, the invasion of Cambodia and his treatment of Vietnam protesters, the collapse of Bretton Woods, interventions in Latin America, and of course Watergate. But in his positive column are the creation of the EPA and OSHA, the clean air and water acts, detente with China and the Soviet Union, and the implementation of the fair housing act under HUD secretary George Romney. Also he gets credit for not trying to undermine Medicare, the accomplishment of his Democratic predecessor, as many small-government conservatives wanted him to do.

Idk about accomplishment, but I think a great moment in Carter's history was his handling of the three mile island incident. Without his willingness to give a speech from the plant, showing everyone it was safe, it could've spelled the beginning of the end for nuclear power.

@@macforme yes, I can. At that point, there was zero precedent on how much power the vice-president had with the death of the president. The Constitution was vague about this. Some thought the VP would just be president until a special election was held. Some believed the VP would just be a figurehead president and the cabinet would run the country. Tyler insisted that he was the actual president and had all the powers that the Constitution bestowed on the elected president. None of this was inevitable. Tyler set the precedent that was later enshrined In the 25th Amendment. He may not have been that purposeful in his insistence, but it was extremely important.

25:25 there’s almost a generational divide among disabled Americans of pre and post ADA people. Pre-ADA people wouldn’t stand up for accommodations because they could be denied and face repercussions for asking (like getting fired at a job if you asked for accommodations because they didn’t want a disabled person working there). Since the law was passed, we’ve had legal standing, and have gotten more vocal about our needs, instead of suffering silently. It’s an incredible achievement for our community!
One could argue that Obama's biggest accomplishment was ending the Great Recession in the US.
My bank account, finances, and investment portfolio all say that he definitely did not *end* the recession… he just helped make it suck a little less. I’d like to imagine that had there been less Republican push back he might have gotten more done… I vote Republican as crazy as that sounds with what I just said but the Obama era, as far as I can tell, is where the parties started fighting their opposition just to keep things from happening. Democrats did it to Trump, stifling everything he was trying to do… and it’s happening in reverse again with Republicans pushing back against Biden just because it’s Biden…

It’s nice to see Nixon get a little recognition for something other than watergate as he did have quite a fascinating foreign policy experience (both good and bad) but he always touted that he considered his biggest achievement was the National Cancer Foundation and though overshadowed by some other memorable presidential achievements, it’s a noteworthy one worth mentioning.

Maybe it's just because I spent most of the school year doing a deep dive into the subject (culminating in a 30+ page thesis💀) but I think that LBJ's biggest accomplishment was the Voting Rights Act. It's impact cannot be understated, especially considering how important voting is and the sheer degree to which Black people had been disenfranchised in the South. Again though I'm clearly very biased because of the depth of my research (I have listened to FAR too many LBJ phone calls). Either way this is a great video and I'm a big fan of your channel!
Washington only taking two terms was huge. In my opinion that was one of the greatest precedent moments in U.S. history, right up there with Ford's bad precedent of pardoning a president.

The pardon was understandable to me. It cut off the chance of a president facing legal retaliation for something that was more petit than criminal In the grand scheme.
The only thing I would say Mr. Beat is even though the achievement of the interstate by Eisenhower was great in a lot ways, the targeted damage it did to many cities and communities of colors should be recognized as a massive caveat that is still significant today.

I think you could make the argument that Nominating Earl Warren to the Supreme Court could be right up there with Eisenhower's accomplishments.

I personally think the biggest problem with our political system is the power of the two major parties and how decisive they’ve become. I think we need a purple party made up of people devoted to compromise, exploring new ways to actually solve our problems, preserving the Constitution, and protecting the rights of all people, even those they disagree with. I would probably give trump his reversal of economic decline (at least by household income and growth statistics), including raising incomes for African American households by (factcheck me if I'm wrong here) an unprecedented amount. Though I guess you could say that this achievement is neutered by the massive expenditure overs final year of the presidency.

Or we could have a multiparity parliamentary system in which parties with different goals and agendas often have to form coalitions and compromise to achieve goals. A purple party "devoted to compromise" makes little sense.. being "for compromise" is meaningless. We need a system that doesn't constantly sabotage and shut out smaller parties, above all. I guarantee that would at least in the short-term reduce some of the political gridlock. It is important to be nuanced about political leaders-- including Donald Trump--, but just because they do a few things that are positive doesn't eliminate how they gave attempted to undercut democratic processes and discriminated against entire ethnic and religious groups (like the "Muslim ban")

Presidents for the most part have little impact on these economic outcomes unless they enact far-reaching programs and legislation that targets these populations.. Ulysses.S.Grant would arguably be one f the longest office holding president, remember term limits weren’t instituted until after FDR. He was an incredible leader and brilliant with policy, but sadly, he didn’t have good cabinet picks. During his run for his 3rd term, he was bombarded by the opposition about his cabinet’s corruption, even his personal secretary was involved. Although he never took part in that affair he was still voted out off office and his political career was ruined. He could have easily gone on to winning a 3rd and possibly 4th terms.

It might be interesting to take this another way and use biggest accomplishment to mean the most impactful decision they made. Example; a lot of people would disagree with the wars started under W Bush but they are certainly his most impactful decision
Agreed and some presidents were terrible because they were incompetent and ineffective. A good example of that would be James Buchanan who I consider to be the worst president in American history. Other presidents were very effective such as FDR. Most people would agree that FDR was a very effective president but some people would argue that he was very good because he was very effective and others would argue that he was bad because he was very effective.
@@abrahamlincoln937 funnily enough, casual historian labels FDR as the stereotypical lying politician he is. So I guess that falls under he was bad for being very effective.

One thing that I will give Buchanan is that he helped prevent a war between America and Britain over the San Juan border dispute by sending General Winfield Scott to negotiate a peace deal.
John Tyler managing to have two living grandsons alive in the 21st century is an impressive accomplishment as well, I must say.
Grover Cleveland should have had two answers, one for each term.
Also, while outside of the scope of this video by your own constraints, I do think that Taft deserves a shout-out for becoming Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. He had much more power there. (It also made him the only person to ever hold both offices at some point in their lives). Similarly, while we are at it, JQA returned to Congress after his Presidency (a very unusual move) and fought for abolition there.

It was so hard to imagine what the times back then were like as a kid. But the more you understand the world as it is today and the events you’ve lived through, the more interesting it gets.
Ur right surviving the War of 1812 even though it was a draw was a major accomplishment. But until then our leaders were against an army and navy. Infact we had a very small army and navy. Madison's own party was anti-naval. But what navy we had was top notch. After a few victories against the British everyone's opinion on the navy changed including Madison's. He goes on to talk about a military establishment being important when war is started and to even keep the peace. The War caused him to change his mind and support the navy and the Second Bank of the US. Madison was a man that could change when he needed to.

It really goes to show even if a president was considered "evil" or "corrupt", every single president has done something positive for the people or the country which is quite fascinating.
Yeah, I cannot agree with Buchanan’s management of the Utah situation, which I find deeply flawed. Notably, he failed to inform Brigham Young that he was being replaced as governor. He deployed troops without thoroughly verifying reports of disloyalty in Utah. He then dispatched approximately 2,000 federal troops, who were poorly supplied, to Utah. Additionally, the government did not reimburse the Central Overland California and Pikes Peak Express Company for resources requisitioned from civilians, including 40 stagecoaches, causing significant financial losses. Also it was legit calleed "Buchanan’s Blunder" in the national press.

I really think that one day, perhaps after Biden's first term is over, this video should receive a follow up on the worst things each President did while in office. As much as the great ones might be great, there's no denying that each president has some skeletons in their closet. Either through laws they signed, actions taken, or even if they had a policy that negatively effected the country. It would be really interesting to see your take on that, Mr. Beat.
Biden's worst boo-boo may change because he still has 6 months to do something stoopider. He has a number of doozies; the public learned that he made his daughter Ashley take showers with him and as she puts it in her diary he did inappropriate things. She became a screwed up kid in and out of drug rehab. way to go Joe! He stopped all enforcement of the southern border and allowed some 11 million people to come into the U.S. including terrorists, rapists, and criminals of all kinds. He denied access to secret service protection for RFK Jr. while every presidential candidate is entitled to that protection and he did it simply because he wanted to serve a 2nd term and knew Kennedy would win an election against him. The man should not be allowed to continue his current term much less be allowed to seek a second term. Potato Joe please go.

I didn't even have to reach Polk's turn to find out his greatest accomplishment. He is the only president to ever keep ALL of his campaign promises (even if he did bullied others to get his way). Gaining all those territories was part of his campaign promises but we can't forget h e also promised to reestablish t he Independent Treasury System and Reduce tariffs which he also accomplished, all in the one term he promised to only serve.

@@iammrbeat Yes I have, that's why I bring up his campaign promises for this video. Most presidents were only able to keep most of their campaign promises but not all of their promises, even those that had won a second term. Heck FDR lived through three of the four terms he was in office and couldn't keep all his promises (a lot of it due to issues from the Supreme Court). That's why I think the fact Polk was the only one to do so is his greatest accomplishment and that expanding US territory just part of the promises he made.
Not even Andrew Jackson could keep all his campaign promises and Polk looked up to the guy. So in a way, Polk succeeded one of his heroes in something.

John Tyler was also the first VP to step up as president after the death of his predocessor. And he did so by certifying his role himself, setting standards that Millard Fillmore, Andrew Johnson, Chester Arthur, Teddy Rossevelt, Calvin Coolidge, Harry Truman, and Lyndon Johnson was able to follow when their predocessors died as well as Gerald Ford when Nixon resign whether they did a good job or not.

Though, there are good arguments to be made that it was a poor choice, as it's hard to sing, and the lyrics kind of glorify war. While it was still an improvement over the previous anthem of "America" (due to using the same tune as multiple other anthems including "God Save the King/Queen"), there was a much better option in "America the Beautiful;" and since then other superior choices have been written such as "God Bless America" and "This Land Is Your Land."

I love the Pendleton Civil Service Reform Act. Also, Garfield is my favorite not-good President. I think that he would have done a fine job had he had the chance to actually live through his term. He also created a novel proof to the Pythagorean theorem while in Congress prior to his Presidency.

Thomas Jefferson is a pretty interesting guy to me ( I am Native American btw) my mixed blood family looked at a lot of the Corps of Discovery and all that came because the Louisiana Purchase. I am also interested in his architecture career and his making of the constitution.
