Also, the plane you mentioned being Tails' plane? It's called the Tornado, and it's not actually Tails' plane, it's actually Sonic's, he just lets Tails pilot it. Probably so Sonic himself doesn't crash it by accident. As Sonic mentions early in Sonic Adventure 1, that Tails is not one to let the plane crash, and the only reason Tails had the Tornado crash at the beginning of Adventure 1, was because Tails was trying to learn how to properly have the plane harness the power of a Chaos Emerald as fuel, which, as you can tell by this comment by how I described that early event of the game, the experiment ended in failure on test flight for it.

I don't think you noticed this, but there's shines around the stages that alter Metal Sonic's abilities. They also change his shoe color to signify the change. In that Casino Night like zone, they were green and let you glide.

btw Darby, the Eggman song that played in the video preview intro of this video, is from Sonic Adventure 2. Furthermore, Dr. Eggman was only known as Robotnik in western areas of the world, in Japan, he was always known as Eggman, they never called him Eggman in Japan. Supposedly, the reason he used to be known as Dr. Robotnik, was because SEGA feared they'd get hit with copyright infringement for using the name Eggman, as someone else was already using that name for one of heir characters. After that was no longer an issue, in Sonic Adventure 1, in the international version, they made-up a way to canonically rename him to Dr. Eggman, to make his name the same name as in Japan. By having Eggman as a nickname Sonic and friends decided to call him by, out of trying to insult him. Also, if for some reason you're hesitant to play the Sonic Adventure games because of Modern Sonic (I don't remember if you've played either Sonic Adventure games), just know, the Sonic in the Sonic Adventure games, is neither Classic nor Modern Sonic. The Sonic in Sonic Adventure 1 and Sonic Adventure 2, is some weird case of being a kind of Sonic between Classic and Modern Sonic. He LOOKS like Modern Sonic, but he isn't actually, as he still retains some aspects of Classic Sonic. Such as the Spindash and Spin Attack, something much later Sonic games would ditch entirely in favor of the Boost mechanic. Eggman is still preferring to be called Dr. Robotnik in Sonic Adventure 1, despite Sonic and friends wanting to mock him by giving him the nickname Eggman, if you need any further proof of Sonic Adventure's Sonic being a weird middle point between the Classic and the Modern Sonic, and not just being Modern Sonic. Also, I'm not mad at you for still calling him Robotnik, I just needed to put this out there to make a point using facts of the Sonic franchise. You can call Eggman what you want, I don't really have a problem with it, and I only spelled a single word in all caps, because I was trying to put more feeling into the point I was making. As some Sonic fans don't know some of the facts I stated in this comment. Some Classic Sonic fans won't even try the great (but heavily flawed) Sonic Adventure games because Sonic Adventure Sonic looks like Modern Sonic while he still retains some aspects of Classic Sonic and Sonic Adventure's Eggman in Sonic Adventure 1 still preferring to be called Dr Eggman (even though he named his flying ship the Egg Carrier, though I think he did that in response that Sonic and friends refusing to call him Dr Robotnik any longer

I think the whole drowning mechanic with metal is due to him being a robot. while he cannot breath as he has no lungs, he needs the air to keep his circuits from getting damaged by the water. that’s also probably why he drowns much quicker than sonic.
Honestly, to me it feels like an oversight of whoever made the hack.
@@Pe6De The thing is, there are plenty of in universe reasons as to why air may be needed.
When Metal Sonic is at full running speed, there is a thruster pushing it forward. What powers this?
There is also no explanation as to what powers Metal Sonic. If this power source is something that requires oxygen, and in order to reduce storage requirements Metal Sonic gets the oxygen from the atmosphere, then it is feasible that oxygen could be needed.
Of course, this is just theorising and applying real life physics to a game. But you can't really call something an oversight without background information on a character.
@@darranrowe174 Given that the general knowledge about robots is that they are non-living beings and don't require oxygen, I can say this is an oversight unless the developer himself bothers to explain it somewhere in game, imo. Or until stated otherwise by official creator of Metal Sonic.

Which general knowledge is this? Futuristic scifi knowledge or contemporary knowledge?
If it is futuristic then there is no good frame of reference because it could be any pseudo scientific technology.
What about contemporary? Well, most of these robots have a direct connection to a power source or are battery operated. Battery power is terrible for both weight concerns and providing power for long periods in a self contained unit. So I say it is very feasible that in this kind of situation a robotic hedgehog may require oxygen to continue functioning.
@@darranrowe174 Eggman is a genius, however. Not very problematic for him to figure out how to power Metal Sonic for long periods of time without the aforementioned problems if he can build Death Egg and armies of badniks. Besides, oxygen alone is not sufficient to power a robot like Metal Sonic.
Oh, and before game engine limitations get brought in - I've seen rom hack where one of the characters cannot drown, so nope. Not an excuse especially that character was in a vehicle too :P .
My conclusion is that it's an oversight (or absolute laziness that makes Metal Sonic feel more like normal Sonic in skin of Metal Sonic).
Great video as always, a sequel or even whole series would be great. I usually say Robotnik, sounds nicer. < You played as the villains!!! Well OmoChao, if we did you would have been playable. < . . . 😢
As cool as Metal Sonic is, I can't get enough of Robotnik. The voice, the run, the funny death animation, it all makes me laugh. The snow at the end was also awesome looking too, they need to do more snow levels for Sonic games 100.% Looking forward to a fan making the 1000 loopy loop super fun game in the future.

I recently found out there's an old 8-bit version of Sonic on the original Master System which is different from the Genesis release, like the Chaos Emeralds are within the levels instead of in bonus areas? Crazy. Thought you might be interested in giving that a try, I'd love to see the whole game played and it seems extremely up your alley.

The first level boss is the version of Silver Sonic that appears in the Game Gear/Master System version of Sonic 2. I can’t blame you for not knowing about it. Not that many people played that in the grand scheme of things compared to the Genesis one.

6:15 I feel like metal drowning would have made more sense if like, he was sparking with electricity like in SRB2 because thats a really cool way to go about it.
This game seems fun, heh, like, there was once where like I imagined a rom hack of Sonic 2 like where you are Metal Sonic and collect like batteries, animals or discs instead of rings and have Jetpack Robotnik instead of Tails and like defeat animals, but yeah this also is a pretty good hack, it just sucks that as Eggman you cannot jump on enemies, but apart from that, it's awesome, you could do an episode 2, heh.

If you ever play 3D Sonic games, there's a mod loader for the Steam version of Sonic Adventure 2 that randomizes what character you play as, which can be really cool if you get someone who can fly in a Sonic or Shadow stage but can be very chaotic and hard if you get Eggman, specifically the regular Eggman and not the one in the robot.

I like saying eggman (also he wasn't technically called robotnik in the classic games, when sonic 1 was sent over to america to be localized, they changed his name to robotnik, when in japan, he was called Eggman (the games were made in Japan, and the games released first in America. It's also where the spike glitch from Sonic 1 comes from)
I love this game's concept of making you play as Metal Sonic in Act 1 and Eggman in Act 2.
Another good thing about the bubbles is that you could instantly pick them up, and not have to jump when they get to the biggest.

Metal sonic doesn’t exactly has lungs way I see it is the air bubbles he intakes pushes the water out of his systems to keep his parts from getting water logged and short circuit.

A probable reason why metal sonic needs air is that the internal parts is not supposed to get wet
The above ground part of marble surface zone does remind me of Marble zone in Sonic The Hedgehog, the under water area reminds me of Scrap Brain Zone. I watched the video and I loved it! Would be wonderful to see a part 2
6:18 actually it does make sense because metal sonic has an engine that powers his rocket booster and engines need oxygen or in this case air flow and if under water, metal sonic only have a limited amount time before his engine dies out due to the lack of air flow, unlike other badniks that are specialized for those environments.

I mean, both the game version and the movie version called robotnik AND eggman at the same time, so... honestly, It's just better to call all versions both names. (yes I including the 90s tv show versions.)

Wow this is a great rom hack getting to play as Robotnik and metal sonic and you should play more of this Darby it would be epic to see another episode. I really liked the levels because they were interesting and awesome and I really liked the sound track and voice overs absolutely amazing
Metal sonic doesn't need air because he has lungs. He's clearly running on internal combustion.
Honestly i like every single time a water section was used in a sonic, exept the 1 time in labyrinth 3 it's boss in sonic, but that's not because of the water but because it's practicly impossible to hit eggman 8× before he escapes, i do like even labyrinth zone itself though

Also, haha, nice 4th wall break at the end card of the video, Eggman is walking on the box that contains the video playlist on the right. I find 4th wall breaks funny and entertaining, when they aren't so overused that it's done all the time, or overused to the point they do it every few seconds throughout the entire thing. Also, if you want the name of that Eggman song it's: "E.G.G.M.AN." I'm not kidding, that's the song's actual name. That has as little creativity for a name as the password to enter the Egg Carrier's Chao Garden

There's a rom hack I could recommend. Well, it's actually a series of rom hacks I guess. They add Amy Rose in the classic Sonic games and she uses the same moveset as the one in Sonic Advance, a game you're already familiar with. Usually I would link them, but I already tried that twice and TH-cam deleted my comment both times, so you'll have to look them up yourself. Just search for Amy Rose in Sonic 1; Amy Rose in 2 and Sonic 3 & Amy Rose.

The small Silver Sonic at the beginning is Silver Sonic from the game gear Sonic 2. He’s also known as Mecha Sonic MK0, and the one from Genesis is MK1. They have the same mechanics basically.

I am the Eggman song comes from Sonic Adventure 2. That is Robotnik's/Eggman's theme Sonic Adventure 2 you hear it on the Dark Story side cut scene where Sonic hits the top of the Egg Golem and causes it to malfunction.
