- Shekhawati is a region of Rajasthan which was once home to Rajput kings, and rich merchants who built stunning Havelis, temples and wells during their heydays between the 17th to 19th centuries. Today the region is largely abandoned by the merchants yet their old mansions stand tall still, often crumbling, but with numerous stories to tell.
In this video, I visited Ramgarh in Shekhawati to learn more about the art, architecture, food and culture of the region and explore the town.
These are the places covered:
00:00 Introduction
00:50 Churu Railway Station
01:14 Welcome to Ramgarh
01:43 My stay: Vedaaranya Haveli
02:40 Shani Temple
03:24 Late-night exploitations in Ramgarh
04:21 Sweets at Moti Halwai
05:57 Hanuman Temple
07:13 Ganga Mai Temple
08:42 Nehra Haveli
09:11 Poddar Chhatris
10:05 Why was Shekhawati abandoned?

The easiest way to reach Ramgarh from Churu is to take a bus and then take an auto-rickshaw to your homestay.
Hope you enjoy this video :)

Shekhawati region in Rajasthan is one of the most under explored places in India. I'm basically from Churu and my grandmother is from Ramgarh. I've been to Ramgarh a few times and its beauty never failed to amuse me every time. I really appreciate that you went there and made a vlog about the same. Kudos mate.
That’s wonderful Rishi - you are be lucky to be from this part of Rajasthan! I certainly hope to be back and do a deeper dive into architecture, cultural practices here - I’m very fascinated by everything Sekhawati 🤗❤️

Awaiting your video! I personally had the opportunity to visit a couple of places in the Shekhawati region and was honestly heartbroken to see the plight of majority of the havelis ( barring a handful).
Post my visit Ilay Cooper's work on Shekhawati was an enlightening read for me. In case you haven't already, do read his book. I'm sure you would enjoy it.
Hope you like the video - I’ve presented a much simplified version here though. I would love to read the book you recommend 🙌
