    For those who havent read the book, the reason Tyson was able to get through the barrier:
    When Tyson saw Percy in danger battling the Colchis bulls, he fought tooth and nail against the barrier, crying "Percy needs help!" trying to help his friend, and Annabeth, in a moment of desperation, grants him permission to enter camp (the only way monsters can enter the barrier is if given permission), and he's able to rush in and join the fight against the bulls

    • @Bahr-im7pn
      @Bahr-im7pn 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Upon further inspection, that's one of the reasons why the Giants in heroes of Olympus don't seem quite as threatening as the Titans. Sure, Percy was able to battle guys like Hyperion and krios, but that was only when he had a lot of help, a terrain advantage, a few years experience and a few tricks that not even he fully understood. And the only reason they killed Kronos was because Luke killed himself before he could reform. And then there's the Giants, who are not only bigger but allegedly as strong, if not stronger. All of them are custom made to defeat a certain god and can only be killed by gods and demigods together. A supposed tough weakness, but apparently it doesn't matter which god helps kill them. And yes, I know that the prophecy kids are strong, but you expect me to believe that they killed the Giants after wading through an army with only their respective parents? And it didn't even take that much effort once the kids and parents started working together

    • @Doomzdeh
      @Doomzdeh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@owenmaleski2203 It’s because the Gigantes were actually considerably weak in Greek Mythology. They were defeated by the Gods much easier and quicker than the Titans ever could have been. The Titans (and the Gods) defeated Primordial-level threats, yet the Gigantes could never even beat Heracles.
      Plus, the Gigantes were dumber than the Titans too. They didn’t have as varied of powers as the Titans and never had the strategic logic to have children to swell their numbers.
      Legitimately the only thing that ever made them a threat was that Demigods had to aid the Gods to defeat them, so the Gods had to find a Demigod capable of defeating immortals and keep that Demigod alive.

The Ares Chariot was Clarisse AND Percy, with Clarisse actually needing Percy’s help. The Bronze Dragon Quest refers to Festus, Leo’s dragon from Heroes of Olympus that Leo tamed, with no help from anyone else. What ticks me off is that they name-drop the adventures from the Demigod Files, which I absolutely loved, but they f*** it up anyways.
      First, those all take place between books 4 and 5, and all showcase elements that haven’t been introduced yet.
      Second, Clarisse only shows up in one of those: the stolen chariot.
      Third, in that one, Percy helps Clarisse (who begrudgingly accepts his help) to recover Area’s chariot and to prove herself to her father. Putting aside the character development that hasn’t happened yet this far in the movie, Percy willingly lets Clarisse take the credit because a) she’s proving herself to her father and can’t let him know she got help and b) he just wanted to help a friend. He didn’t *want* credit; he just saw someone in need and helped them. That’s why this whole “one-quest wonder” bit falls so short for me: Percy doesn’t *care* about that stuff. In the Sea of Monsters book, Percy actually notes that he’s happy they didn’t get any credit for the quest.

    My theory for why the ending is like that is this.
    The studio was losing faith in the movies, and despite having agreed to make more, they didn't want to commit either. So they made the choice that regardless of the fact that some stuff was meant to be important for the sequels, everything introduced in movie 2 had to pay off in movie 2. So they had to have the Cronos, Luke, and Prophecy stuff all wrap up in movie 2, so they didn't have to commit to a third movie to explain what happens next. Which meant a third movie could never happen anyway because... Reasons.
    But they still wanted the audience to know that a third movie could exist, despite clearly not wanting to commit to making a third movie...
    Honestly, no matter how you look at it... It's stupid.

    15:44 A daughter of Atlas did NOT create Anaklusmos for Hercules. It was created by Atlas' wife Plione (not sure how to spell her name). Later she passed it down to her daughter Zoë who could hide it as her hair clip and was NOT supposed to give it to Heracles but she fell in love and did it anyway. Heracles later betrays her and doesn't return it to her. She was then disowned by Atlas for helping Heracles and that was the reason she hates men so much. I think that Annabeth recognizing Ethan and Silena might be the thing I hate the most in this movie. Silena because her plot in the 5th book is huge, it has a massive impact on the story and is extremely compelling. Ethan because she probably shouldn't recognize him in the first place, the whole point of his character is that the minor gods and their children are completely ignored and tossed aside, even though he's the son of Nemesis he's basically just considered another Hermes kid. Having him be so easily recognizable just seems to ignore the entire point of him being treated as insignificant and forgettable.

    You know, I think the Percy Jackson books are a masterful exercise in the reversal of cliches, the books lull you into believing a cliched plotline but then suddenly spring a much more exciting and unpredictable resolution to the story than you could've imagined and that's a big factor of what makes the series as a whole unique and fun, the movies on the other hand are an exercise of the exact opposite nature, where every cliche and trope must turn out exactly how you expect it to, that's why Percy is the hero of the prophecy, Riptide is the cursed blade and Luke is the stupid evil villain. It's like taking everything that makes the books so brilliant and turning it onto it's head for achieving the same old Hollywood movie. What a disappointment.

    If they'd done any kind of book-related set up, "You'd do it for me" would have worked, because in the book, Percy did sacrifice his social life and standing by being Tyson's friend and standing up for him against bullies. He then did the same at Camp Half-Blood, even when it strained his relationship with Annabeth and his other pre-existing friends. The books showed Percy as the ultimate Ride-Or-Die friend, and that's why Tyson was willing to go all out to protect him in return. Also, when Tyson was presumed dead following Clarisse's ship blowing up, Percy was genuinely devastated.
    Here, Tyson is a new acquaintance at best and has been an active hindrance at worst. There's call for Percy to feel guilty for NOT being upset that Tyson is no longer drawing attention or dropping important things at the least convenient moment, but we've seen nothing that actually sets Tyson up as being important to Percy.
    You know, typing that makes me realise how much this movie did both Percy and Tyson dirty.
    Their bond as found family before they discovered they were actual family was one of the best things about the book, and mythical creatures age slower than humans, so while Tyson does have moments of surprising insight and clarity, his simpler moments are explained by the fact that he's essentially the equivalent of a six-year-old, offset by being a Cyclops. He prayed to Poseidon, who sent him an older brother in Percy, which was a great example of Poseidon caring, but being unable to intervene directly. Poseidon knew Percy well enough to know that he would stand up for Tyson, and that Sally Jackson would go out of her way to help however she could, giving Tyson something like a family.

    Grover is referencing the stories form the Demigod Files. However those stories did not happen during the sea of monsters. They happened after battle of the labyrinth while Percy was in school/at camp. But hey, do I expect the writers to know that?
    The stolen chariot was when Clarisse was allowed to borrow her father’s chariot when her half brothers, Deimos and Phobos, stole it from her and Percy helps her to get it back. It was not just Clarisse and it showcased their weird bond.
    The bronze dragons quest didn’t even have Clarisse in it. The crew was Percy, Annabeth, Silena, and Beckendorf. It’s about a game of capture the flag, when they find the mermekes, dragging a giant robot dragon head into their den. They go to investigate, but then Beckendorf gets captured and they have to save him. The bronze dragon supposedly goes on to be festus. It included some of the romances between the characters too.

      Honestly a cut like that for time, budget, etc I understand especially since really the Bulls purpose was not just for an action scene but also to showcase to Percy (and the audience) the danger camp halfblood is facing and Tyson wasn’t exactly what he seemed as well as his abilities as a cyclops….. in the book.

    You also missed the part where after saying the sea of monsters isn’t Poseidon’s domain (sea god, sea of monsters, ok then) he’s still able to use his powers while fighting Luke on the boat and to rock the ship

      Yh and how did the sea resurrect Tyson if it’s not Poseidon’s domain

      Poseidon DOES have the Sea of Monsters in his domain! Ignore that line!

    I’m watching him take increasing levels of d6 psychic damage the longer he reviews this. It’s painfully entertaining to watch

      1d6 of psychic damage per minute of review.

    I'm honestly surprised he didn't rip apart the entire fight scene with Kronos. They butchered him as badly as Hades in the first one. Kronos doesn't normally eat people, he ate his children out of paranoia over a prophecy. He's not a magma monster thing with horns he looks like a god but big, with golden eyes, and an aura that can kill any mortal or half-blood around him. How did they take such a cool character and reduce him to this generic thing. Same way as with Hades I guess.

    You detailing the strange would-be ship between Percy and Clarisse in this movie is one of the most accurate and disturbing summaries of this movie. It’s the writers absolutely reworking the source material into what they think was best and perverting it into something it was never meant to be, whether the intention was to build on it or not.
