incredible. i used to be super into meta knight, but because of the lack of content and good guides available on youtube i stopped playing him entirely. thanks to you and your channel for rekindling that flame i once had for this awesome character >:D
I played hours smash brawl on an emulator with meta Knight not knowing his op you can imagine how i felt when i got smash ultimate and got wiped with the floor
I'm fascinated by the possibility of an IDJ implications video, because the combo tree for just using it is insane, along with attack cancel off of down throw
Also, I'd sincerely appreciate it if you did a guide on when ladder combos work on various weight classes, like what %'s and such. I've been trying to do that, but testing it by myself is not easy ;-; Please, I beg of you! It'd be such a major help!
Im a smash 4 vet trying to get back into ultimate. The fast fall upairs to adjust and ladder are still in my muscles. MK feels so different when he moves though. I hope I can get good at him again 🤞🏾
As long as you're able to do the ladders properly, using X to jump will work. Having it as a shoulder button is simply a preference that makes ladders easier for some people, but if using X is working for you while doing the combo, then you're fine using that setup.
This video does not take into account DI, SDI, Free recoveries which is a lot of characters, Disjoints once again lots of characters have, Weight, Projectiles which you would think would be easy to get around but that depends on which zoner and obviously player, also priority. This makes playing against Mk easy af unless you don't understand the bare minimum of the MU which will take u 10-15min to learn and I haven't even explained Mk's flaws I just pointed out what lots of characters have in general as an advantage not even what a character has specifically for themselves... Mk's carried by players
That can be Said for every character. Those combos are the Very basics of Metaknight. If you Connect Them, good, but If you don't understand Neutral or don't have a General Game plan you won't get Very far Just by knowing some combos. I've Seen so much Players that are Excellent at their Combo Game but are totally unable to react in disadvantage. A Lot of People Just fish for Combos and get punished for it.
Fastfall Bair into a jab lock with D-Tilt. The second hit of Bair has a weak spike, so if you land with it right as you land, you can follow up with D-Tilt, Side Tilt, and possibly a low hitting aerial, Mach Tornado, or Shuttle Loop, depending on character size.
I was curious if this was you?? Quite frankly I’m practicing meta knight myself And watching this video the guy kind of sounded like you I wasn’t totally sure though
He even includes his controller layout and training mode drills. No other guide for any character does this well in such a short amount of time, except for Part 1 of the guide.
First you perform the shorthop, and then immediately jump again and input the upair at the same time. I found it very much easier to do with tap jump as well, rather than having to time pressing jump buttons quickly to get the instant shorthop double jump.

Thank you so, so much for this guide. I’ve been interested in mega knight recently due to the insane ladder combos I’ve seen, I used to do them with Mario but I’ve recently been looking to play a bit more flashy and cool. Meta knight was the best fit for me after experimenting, now with the knowledge of this guide I will finally be able to start playing like how I always wanted to Thanks again!
I'm a kirby main and started picking up meta knight, bcs he's fun to play, so my button mapping was pretty much set for this already lol Anyways, is it better to learn how to do them consistently and then to play against real people or is it better to do both at the same time?
You have to watch their damage and DI. Up-Air ladders usually work best at around 20%, depending on weight, and because of the three different launch angles on Up-Air, they may be sent at an unfavorable angle.
Should you have tap jump on or off with meta knight? When I have it on I can do a full hop double upair onto a platform more consistantly, but I can't snap to ledge as easily with reverse up b.
So I have some questions. I'm trying to learn MK, and I'm having issues with the ladder combo. I can do it, but not consistently. I'll get a grab or a dash attack, and I can maybe get one up air sometimes. Today was a big example, because I fought a Corrin who just air dodged out of it almost every time, even when it would be true I think. -How come it seems like I'm missing these online when it looks like it'll hit? Is it % issues or is it online being bad or something else? Maybe I'm doing it wrong? -and once the opponent is out of up air combo %, I should just do other stuff, correct? Because I feel like I'm putting too much emphasis on ladder comboing, and sometimes I panic once the opponent is out of it. Your shoulder button set to jump method definitely works well! I'm just curious if I'm messing up or something. Thank you for your time!
i really like playing meta knight and want to learn how to do this but i dont want to change my controller setup because i already have another main and it would really mess me up.
I think you should’ve provided a tier list or Google doc, or a whole separate video showing how the ladders work with different characters I can do it on floaties but not on fast fallers

Hey
Yooo I had no idea that there was an instant double jump up air for mk. That solves 99% of my problems when I ladder now
Who ready for meta knight?
You can also perform ladders with default controls, it is Just much Harder to perform but it works for me. I guess it is Always a Personal decision.
Man I wish Ladders were easier on Wifi ;-;

What about having your jump tied to x. Is this still okay or is it better to have it be a shoulder button?

Am I supposed to use a jump before I use Mach tornado as a combo finisher?
Yes
I was failing horribly until I realized that you can jump and attack at the same time…

can someone tell what the meta knight did at 0:18 ?
