One thing about the role of a Jester not mentioned is that they were sworn to honesty; they could be executed if they ever were caught telling a lie. This also meant that, should a kingdom be at war and other kingdom seizing the castle, or there was a threat of the Jester being kidnapped, they would often be either [executed so that they could not tell the king’s secrets, or [have their tongue cut out so that they couldn’t tell the king’s secrets. I developed attention and memory issues early in adulthood, and it has made me really think about the "don't remind the teacher about homework" thing If the teacher usually assigns homework, and someone in a similar place as me didn't hear the teacher assign homework one day, they have no good way to know whether they didn't notice, or they forgot, or if the teacher actually didn't assign anything. Trying to interrogate a nearby student is probably going to be noticed by the teacher, and some teachers are quite mean. Yeah, 80s/90s kid here. When I graduated in 1999, things were going up, majorly. Just a year of college would have set me back at least $20K. I'm a custodian, so that tells you which route I went. Yeah, cheap ass rent, bills, groceries, and everything were great, but my Dad did only make a $1,000 a month or so (and he was in the Navy). We never had it easy, so it made me appreciate things even more. My parents didn't get that house or anything after he got out. It sucks, but those were the cards they and later we were dealt. To Robin’s “Jester Execution” assumption, you’re not far off.
