Definitely not judging, every musician is entitled to their own interpretation of whatever they choose to do then I am just here to help people understand what happens with the voice no judgement whatsoever.
Did you know that video was a "second take"? She sang it once, and the TV people didn't like the output (windy day). So, they asked her to sing it AGAIN, & she did, only a couple minutes after singing it the 1st time (!)

As I listened to Angelina, it occurred to me that she is so unpretentious during her live performances. In fact, before she sang "Suspicious Minds" at her Norway concert, she began to cry because so many people had come from so many different countries - just to hear her sing. Now, think about that. For most artists, this would unleash their ego but for Angelina, it unleashed her deep gratitude. Great work that you did on this one. Thank you.
My favorite part? Just the fact that she's back on stage and apparently quite happy about it.

I was worried about how she would handel returning to live shows after such a long break. She appears to have not had any problems and to be better than ever.
Great analysis! My favorite part: All the incredible singing, but particularly the little smile and wave to a fan at 6:57, and then immediately snapping back into the mood of the song. It is like she is saying: «Hi! Don’t worry, I got this covered…». No nerves at all, just confidence and humility while singing the biggest diva song of all time.
The TV station that was filming asked her if she could sing it again because of tech diff. So she sang it again without moving out of her spot. She didn't seem to mind. 😎🇺🇲👍💯🌟

Apart from being take 2, she’d only arrived in Norway a few hours before this. 8 hours jet lag and very tired. (Quote from her immediate team). Astonishing in the circumstances.
Another reactor, a professional opera singer, also noticed the way Angelina breathes air in and immediately flips the flow around to sing out. Most singers will breathe in until full, take a tiny pause and then sing out. Just another one of the amazing aspects of her voice control which allows the music the flow continuously and smoothly.
Hi Sam yeah that's a really cool observation! Not really certain if every singer would take a small pause before singing, that's more of a classical technique. However there is really no need to take a pause before beginning a phrase, especially with how short the breaks are in the song you need to just breathe and quickly and keep going
She has a very rich vocal toolbox and can do about anything with her voice she wants to. Expect to be surprised on the regular :-) She has a beautiful set of vibrato’s but already at the age of 8 she showed she can turn those of when she sang Bang Bang during Norway got Talent. She can go really low (You make me feel so young & How great thou art) and also high (Unchained melody and recently Mount Everest)
I think she has a beautiful mix of being very deliberate in what she sings and how she sings it with a good dose of natural instinct and in-the-moment-interpretations. If she’d sing 5 times in a row each one would be amazing and none of them would be exactly the same.
Angelina has demonstrated in many ways her vocal nimbleness. Another is in her July 10 concert she sang 15 songs, then two encore pieces then "I Have Nothing"! Who does that?

Welcome to Angelina in her native Norway. She did this festival almost every year from right after winning Norway's Got Talent at 8 yrs old till about 11. Great reaction. I am waiting for more reactors to jump on these new performances. I have heard after Allsang Pa Grensen held at Fredriksten which is a fortress in the city of Halden in Norway and where she did only two performances, she did about 17 songs in her performance at Kurbadhagen of which I have seen only about a half dozen including a new performance of 'Love On the Brain' and a couple of new Amy Winehouse songs. Can't wait for more to come out. ♥👣👸🏻

16 years old and only getting better all the time ! Maturity has always been in her vocals ! Humble, sincere, compassionate and caring is who Angelina Jordan is ! ! She was born to perform and with an absence of a number of years of doing live concerts is back on a tour ! She is so fearless in her delivery and her ability to bring the lyrics alive with her gifted story telling is a testament to her vocal talent ! I agree with you completely and I think her ability to rearrange great songs and make them new and interesting is just unbelievable, she's a genius
She sang this at the concert on the 10th July. Also got to watch her sound check in the afternoon before the show. She sang this twice, then did parts of it slightly different each time. When she did it at the concert it was different again. The band did such a good job. Especially the guitarist who just kept looking at her and adjusted his sound to keep with her.

Angelina’s voice and her total being is like an ocean wave or soft summer breeze that takes you in and rushes you to places you have rarely experienced. Your heart rate increases, you find it difficult to catch your breath, chills and shells engulf you. You are now addicted to Angelina Jordan the finest story telling vocalist I have ever experienced.

But I have only got to 05:37 and just had to comment now whilst in my head. This may well have been commented on earlier already but not had chance to read all the comments but basically you said "holy mackerel, this is a hard sing"
Well, what makes this hard sing even more amazing in it's quality ( putting aside the slight distractions AJ had with her hair gently blowing into or near her mouth through ) is that this was the 2nd take of the whole song she did !!!
only 50 seconds early than this video she completed her first rendition of it but was not fully 100% happy with it and as this was being recorded for Norway TV she beckoned the TV director over, told him she wanted to do it again and off she went singing this hard song back to back with 40 seconds to recover in between and have her dress re-arranged slighty.. Truly awesome. 💕💕

Thanks for breaking this song down, I know you’ve already reacted to million miles, however she sang it at Kurbadhagen July 10th concert and if you could would you please explain the last belt in it . To me it seems like it’s impossible to have that much breath and be able to belt. When you startle the band members whom have worked with you since you were a young child. All 4 of Angelina’s concerts in Norway this year are great now that the pandemic has allowed for outdoor concerts maybe she will be able to perform more. In Kurbadhagen and Kongsberg she interacts with the audience and it’s evident that’s where she wants to be.

I agree, even at a lower key it's a difficult song, because othte variety of tones involved. Yet she sings it as if it had been written specifically for her. Great voice, and great reaction from you.

In concern of Mon Laferte whom I suggested in a previous video: Yesterday she released a music video for a song from her album "Seis" (six, as it is her sixth one, released last year, called "Aunque Te Mueras Por Volver" (Even if you died to come back...) - it's a really great piece of art as a music video imo, also she did a new recording for the video which is slightly different from the album version, well over 100k views after 24 hrs...but, as I know you only do live performances: There is an official video from her performing the song live 10 months ago, and it's awesome! Again, the arrangement differs for the live setting (smaller orchestra) but is still great, and her vocals are as good or even better than in the studio version (she's a natural performer...) - I know I suggested another song for a start, and of course you might stick with my first suggestion, great rendition, I only mentioned this because the video is brand new and currently hyping, so if you want to take advantage of that you might do this song instead (the live, and mention the video in your comment - maybe, if that is not too much of an effort, you could first listen to the live, then watch the MV off cam (or cut it out) but include your impression of the video in your final comment/conclusion, that would be perfect for me
Angelina is the only artist I watch and listen to every day, although I do follow many others, including Mon Laferte. My introduction to her was as a result of someone mentioning her in a comment to Angelina (cannot remember if it was you 🙂) quite recently. It was her video Tiny Desk. @@alberttenfoot Hi Albert, things are quite similar here, some Angelina daily is a must, but I'm somewhat careful to avoid overkill, so in between I have to listen to other artists, to appreciate it all the more when I finally get back to Angelina... But the time in between wants to be filled not with just some rubbish, it must be outstanding singers, performers, artists so they don't get on my nerves, and also to make it not all to easy for Angelina... so for me there's also Haley Reinhart, Diana Ankudinova, lara Fabian, Sohyang, Morissette, Gigi De Lana (and some more...) and, my latest crush, Mon. It's quite possible it was me who suggested Mon's Tiny Desk somewhere, that one won her my heart, and if it was on Alejandro's channel "Shift Happens" with his wonderful reactions to Angelina and Aurora, then it was definitely me :) - thanks for being such an inspired and inspiring angel!
And thanks for seconding me on Mon, if you dare here's a very tough one, emotionally, it's her own story - unfortunately not every girl has had such a lucky childhood as Angelina (all in all, of course she has experienced hard times even as a child I suppose, we all have to cope with frustrations, losses and all kind of things...)
I really admire Mon for who she achieved to become as an artist, singer, musician, poet and painter despite of all these hardships, what a great strong woman, and still loving, loving even more...

@@Hundhammer Thank you for a very prompt reply. I've just watched and listened to A Crying Diamond. It is a very dark song, as you said. I downloaded the lyrics, as my hearing is not the sharpest, and they reaffirmed for me her honesty in describing the situation in words which others would be afraid of using in fear of offending the sensibilities of their audience.

@@alberttenfoot Of course I did, who do you think I am!? :D Not only once... :) - and watched a couple of reactions, and probably will watch more... For me this again displayed her enormous growth, and I enjoy it for now, but it will never become my favorite Angelina recording, as I basically don't like that song very much, never did... For me "My Funny Valentine" or "Suspicious Minds" are much better material, that's just my musical taste and has basically nothing to do with Angelina's voice in the first place, though I wouldn't enjoy it if she couldn't sing... :D
Fun fact if you were privy to see one of the 1st fan audience video clips of this you would have seen that the producers of the show had her do this very hard song twice in a row with about a 20 seconds break... I'm assuming this one was the 2nd time through.. Word was there may have been a camera angle deficiency so they wanted it to be re-shot

@Zoe Stibi Vocal Coach Correct me if I'm wrong, but someone else likes the way she sang "walk", and to me, I don't like it at all. I always called it, her "cackle" but AJ fans have "corrected" me and called it a 'fry". Whatever it's called fry, twang, I don't care for it. When she sings Suspicious Minds, her voice is clear and her tone is gorgeous but this "fry", for me, isn't talent but just annoying. Whitney has absolutely no competition!

Not only is the Official version the best it has the potential to vastly outstrip the other versions by the end of the year if not earlier.
I personally think the Official version is better than Whitney Houston’s version.

Just discovered Zoe recently. Really enjoying her insight and excellent knack for explaining vocal technique. Something that none of the reviews of this performance I've seen so far have commented on ... it seems that AJ is "exaggerating" her vibrato in this performance a bit. Wondering if that has something to do with the performance being given out of doors ... whether her normal level of vibrato might not be adequete for that setting.

That's a fact, and with respect to this teacher, Whitney was way better in her early 20s (she became the voice), and so I think age does make a difference. When Whitney was about 19, she, like AJ, belting, sounded course and in a few years became the most beautiful voice, EVER. And I, actually, like AJ's tone better as a teen, so let's see how AJ can improve in a few years. Whitney always belted better but many have. AJ could improve there.

I may be guessing here but I wonder if that dress isn't so tight on her chest that she isn't able to get a full breath. There are a few spots where she seems to run out of breath and I've never heard that in her vocals before. Just wondering.
That's a really great question, it could potentially be a little bit too tight however when you are singing a song like this you don't want to be breathing low because breathing high keeps the upper chest muscles engaged and keeps the larynx high which is what you need for this very challenging belt section
